I'm tempted to put a bet on Gary Megson just to watch the odds tumble and everyone cack themselves. Expensive gag tho, maybe not.

For the betting experts on here, how many of us would it take, and what sort of money would it take, to get someone like Megson into odds on?

It will be a combination of bet size and number of bets.

I put (not my bet) £60 on Brian Deane at 100s yesterday and he moved into 50s instantly.

All the money's for Page and Weir today with Mr Warnock into 14s with one firm

Weir is quite interesting. He definitely trained at Shirecliffe before he took up his coaching role at Everton. With Moyes gone perhaps he may not have a role with Martinez and could be one of the "late applicants".

Of the ones with "no previous experience" he has quite a good leadership CV. He also knows Scotland which the club seems convinced is an area for good value recruitment (I'm yet to be convinced by either Flynn or Murphy)

I'm actually not as much against Weir as most of the others.

Obviously, we will fuck this up somewhere along the line. Weir may be less of a disaster than others, he might demand and implement high standards.

If appointed let's hope he is a more John Harris Ian Porterfield type of Scot than Jimmy Sirrel / Billy McEwan :)

United could have pulled off a master stroke in waiting for all other management jobs to be taken up. Maybe Weir is now available and not wanted by Martinez. With all the management changes in the top flight there might be some very good up and coming coaches looking for their first stab

According to his wiki (I know) Kenwright interviewed him for the Everton job. Bad news if that's the level he wants to enter into management, good news if he wants to tell Kenwright to stick it up his fat arse.

I'd love Weir! Work with a big Everton fan, and he reckons hes a really good coach and has done well with their youth set-up, he's hoping Martinez will make him assistant, but thinks he want his own team

I keep my fingers crossed!

Hmm. Realistically, he has less managerial/coaching experience than Morgan, and only a season more of coaching than Page, but of the 4 centre-half candidates tipped for the post I'd be ok with this. He's had a decent career at the top level, has experience coaching with an excellent manager in Moyes.

Oh dear bad news

Now hearing Everton reserve team boss David Weir has been offered the #sufc job....watch this space #twitterblades

All the dross names that have passed through here the last month and a guy thought of so highly by Everton to be interviewed for the managers job there is no good for us.

Give me strength.

In the position the club are in I am quite surprised Weir is interested in the job. Some of our supporters need a bit of a reality check as to our situation and current status.

Well if nothing else with contacts , good ones , at man utd and everton we might get a better class of loanee, rather than the not good enough for the under 18s weve had previously

Never ever did I think that the press would have a story worded thus :

David Weir is set to be unveiled as the new Sheffield United manager in the next 48 hours.

Record Sport understands that the Rangers will be handed his first managerial post at The Blades - after beating former Chelsea boss Avram Grant to the hotseat.

Daily Record and Sunday Mail - 8th June 2013; 8.44am

Said it many times, this is one of the top jobs outside the Premier League despite the financial restraints he'll be working under. This could be a great stepping stone....er.....chance for him to cut his teeth.

For a newbie like Weir I agree. But some of our supporters still think we can attract established and successful managers. The shortlist suggested the failed or untried only. Argue the toss whether that was because of the package offered or the current status of the club.
