Page out as far as 6s on one market, David Weir and Peter Grant suddenly single figures, Appleton now generally favourite.

Given that the general consensus at the start of the week was Page or Appleton, it makes you wonder whether Winter's comment yesterday 'we still have got more interviews' is actually the case and they really are no nearer making a decision. Very little managerial experience in any of the 'names in the frame'.

Appleton still available at 7/2 though - that won't / wouldn't last long if anyone knew anything.

Local journos all seem to be saying Page and Downes but they're both available at 6s - wonder if uncertainty about which one would be named manager and which as assistant is keeping that price a bit bigger?

Deane and Curle mentioned as a pairing as well - neither of those two are available at any bigger than 12s. Deano was 100/1 before he was spotted on Eccy Road yesterday!

Winter is sticking to 7 as the number of candidates - McCall, Arnold, Robinson, Jackett, Page/Downes, Curle/Deane, Weir, Grant gives 8 so would say one of the last few names is a red herring.

It's the mid season break here in Norway, so not very strange if Deano's back in England at the moment.

So the excuse is ready and waiting and we have heard it before.

Wasn't Southgate in there too?

I think David Weir would make a good manager. If we were going to take a punt on an unproven I would go for him.

I'm not sure how this will be received, but in industrial management, the golden rule is that when someone leaves the company (or when a new post is announced), the new man/woman must be at least as good, if not better, than the outgoing individual or the other members of the managerial team. In this way, the quality and integrity of the management structure is maintained.

I'm absolutely certain that this principle is not always applied in football, and definitely not in this case.

Absolutely right, hence the managerial merry-go-round with the same old tried and trusted faces every time a job becomes available. The problem we also have is that the wages on offer since Robson left, have undoubtedly reduced each time someone takes over (maye with the exception of Blackwell - Speed) and we end up in a worse position. Add to that the fact that McCabe doesn't seemingly want to pay much in terms of compo and already we're looking at 'out-of-work' failures, someone desperate or someone new.

The later two being the best option as they haven't failed - yet

I suppose we could be positive and say at least it will not be:

Bryan Robson
Chris Waddle
Adrian Heath
Carlton Palmer
Billy McEwan
David Hirst

(Now there's a shortlist to make the hardest Blade wet his pants)

perhaps just perhaps no ones impressed enough to offer the job
is it not better to get it right rather than pick the best off a poor list
whats the rush , if we can do better over another say 4 days , surely the benifits outweigh going early with the wrong man , again

Keith Curle into 3s

Everyone outside of the 'chosen few' really is clueless on this one, you have to doff your cap to the club in that respect.

Keith Curle, not commented on other names supposed to be in the Frame, but Keith Curle, no, No, No,No,No, No, and thrice NO.:mad::mad::mad:

Not sure I would doff my cap to be honest. If it ends up being Page for example, they have managed to find every fucking loser possible to interview since then to undermine whoever their new manager is going to be.

Curle interviewed yesterday (Weds 5th June) and asked to come back for a 2nd interview. Must have made a decent impression.

Lives in Sheffield. Ideal job for him.

My pound went on him some time ago at 25/1 :)

I stuck a fiver on at 40/1. Fingers crossed for purely selfish reasons. If we're down to the dregs, I'd at least like to make a bit if money out if it.

So the club mentioned they were down to 4 and an article named 3 plus we all thought downes was the 4th. So that leaves everyone guessing who these 4 are??

Morgan
Appleton
Downes
Curle
???????????

It was Page v Appleton at the start of the week according to what snippets there were around so I'm not quite sure how Curle suddenly appeared for his 1st interview yesterday when, presumably, he would have had his CV in from day one. Have they suddenly decided that Page and Appleton aren't the ones for the job and someone they'd previously written off suddenly is ?

Or have we had the names wrong from day one.

Strange that now names are getting leaked, ie Appleton and Curle. Makes you wonder if they are waiting for us to react

To be fair, the only naming has come from Paul Walker.

Bearing in mind we're basically relying on McCabe to make the right decision (track record appalling) being advised by Dave Bassett, and a guy we sacked less than a year ago, how about a public vote for Season Ticket holders, share holders and members :)

You're right Jim,

This is now officially getting on my tits - whatever we all thought about Danny Wilson (losing the dressing room, boring style, terrible atmosphere @ BDBL), the fact remains that in managerial terms, none of these candidates can carry his bag. Over the last fifty or so years, I've seen some magnificent SUFC cock-ups, but you'd think that if you were going to sack the manager, you'd have a pretty good idea of who would be his replacement and first ask him the question WOULD HE COME TO THE LANE?

Second Question: Do we have a Plan B if he turns us down? Who are the alternatives?

Instead, three weeks later, we're interviewing a mixed bag of losers, chancers and wannabes.

These people could not run a fucking whelk stall.

Morgs' odds plummeted from 25's to 2/1 in the 30 seconds it took me to deposit some cash into my skybet account.
