Just back. Same pattern as other games. Good defensively, hopeless going forward. Absolutely no cutting edge. Created very few chances, Blackman had half decent shout for a penalty, think we might have had 2 shots on target. Couldn't see if it was a pen from where I was sitting, but if we are unable to create or score goals, we leave ourselves vulnerable to dodgy penalties and defensive errors. Suspect the manager will say how organised we were, without mentioning how worried he is about our inability to create chances. For me this is very worrying.

I'd be more worried if, having lost 75% of our attacking talent in the summer, we were shipping goals this season. Then we'd truly be boned.

It'll take a couple of transfer windows before I'll start kicking Wilson for not constructing a team with the attacking style we once had. In the meantime, hang on in and let's see what can be done in January.

Spot on JD. It was turgid for me in spells today, but, defensively we looked solid again. Let's see what DW can do in january with regards to adding attacking options to the side.

The frustrating thing is though JD that Danny isn't making the best use of the tools at his disposal. Williams really offers nothing either defensively or going forward on the left and it ends up putting more stress on the rest of midfield who are pulled out their normal gameplan.

And that isn't a criticism of Williams, but of Wilson's determination to play him out of position.

Must admit I think Williams offers more than you suggest, but I'd still have preferred to see a youngster given a run. In Wilson's defence he has tried Cofie there and he was truly awful. So I can only guess he thinks our own kids are still not ready.

The recent fans' forum highlighted the problem. We had Gallagher on loan but sent him back when Howard got crocked. Then, given how well Long has done, we've decided to keep the money in reserve unless Long gets crocked too.

I'm hoping that the savings will allow something to happen in January to fill the left wing. Failing that, we'll surely try a young'un...

PS - last night I saw Matt Lowton overlap more in one game v Man U than McMahon has all season. I'd also argue it's this that's destroyed our wing play as much as anything else.

On the latter point, I tend to think this is Wilson's instructions, maybe due to McMahon's lack of pace.

And Cofie is just as bad as Williams there, it's simply not his position.

We have at least 2 left wingers available in Tonne and McFadzean. Why not bloody try them at least.

We're only in 2nd as the league we're in is utterly awful.

I know its another square peg in round holes situation but what about putting Blackman on the left wing and playing Miller up front with either Kitson or Porter. At least he is direct and pacey. At the moment Williams offers little attacking threat on that side and McAllister also doesnt have the pace out wide to fashion any chances.

Trouble is. DW knew (or should have known) that this loss of players would affect our ability to create chances / score goals, but did very little to resolve it. Even few loan players would have made some difference. Shouldn't be waiting for January to resolve this. I cannot believe how poor Utd are going forward. The pendulum has swung back from last season. We have no purpose or penetration going forward.

Let's face it RB. It couldn't do any worse. At least Blackman is attacking minded.
I'd still prefer to see Tonne or MacFadzean given a chance.

He should put tonne in. If he isn't going to play him now get shut of him, whats the point of him being here. He's 26 isn't he? not exactly part of the youth team

Exactly right IMO. He didn't even feature in the recent JPT and FA Cup games.
At that age he's either good enough or he aint. Although he is still only 21!!!!!!!!!!

To be honest I am unsure why we gave another year or two to likes of Philliskirk and Tonne. They have progressed little in the 2 and a bit seasons they have been here.

Wilson does not think they are good enough (neither do I from bits of pieces in reserves/u21's) over last few years so unsure why we are holding onto them. Both went on loan and failed to make an impact at an even lower level.

The likes of Harriott and Chappel also really need to push on this season or will be in same category; in early 20's; where if they were going to make it they normally would have by now.

For the record I am not sure any of the above will be regulars or even contenders for us either this season or next so surely we should move them on (or try to). May seem harsh saying the above but we have kids in Academy that are on bench for u21's when they could get some valuable experience.

Younger than I thought he was but still. If he isn't near the first team even when we're playing a left back in his position then why are we wasting a wage on him? we need to ditch some of these types of players sharpish and re invest in some midfield creativity
