of why we surrendered our Premier League status with a whimper.
Plus, why we shouldn't be hoping for a quick return!
Failure to take chances, Mistakes clinically punished.
The gulf, ladies and gentlemen, is f*****g huuuuuge and will be for a long, long time.
Unless we find a chairperson who can buy us success, we'll just have to put up with brief periods of 'against-the-odds' surprise seasons. Sad, but true.

No point getting to PL under the present ownership - they got there + fucked it up so badly that we are now stony broke with a poor squad + no prospects in January
You obviously mean Wilder fucked it up by wasting the vast majority of the £100 + million in transfer fees he spent then fucking off through the back door when it went tits up ?

I've got to say that I thought we played fairly well yesterday against Wolves' (almost) First 11.
Individual errors led to 2 of their goals. Robinson's mistake was a terrible one and at this level should not be happening. I am not going to jump on the anti Robinson bandwagon because at times he has been brought into the side and performed admirably. Unfortunately there is always a mistake in him and usually they get punished. This is the main reason that he will be nothing more than a backup player whilst ever he is with us.
Foderingham has shown some great displays since being brought into the side but made a mistake/error of judgement and this resulted in a goal against. He did however make a couple of decent saves when we were caught out at the back.
I thought young Gordon had a decent game being thrust into the centre of a 3 and being exposed to some quality attacking players. The lad has a positive future ahead of him.
The midfield did reasonably well and had a fair share of the ball, causing some problems and chances although we did lack the attacking thrust/flair of MGW. Berge and Hourihane worked fairly well in the middle with Osborn and Bogle (getting better each game) assisting with the attacks.
Billy was a threat throughout and caused problems for their backline with Didzy linking the midfield with the attack whenever possible.
before we went 1 down we could and possibly should have been at least 2 up.
It wasn't to be and we conceded.
They were always going to create chances and some of their play was very good but then again we should have been level at the break. The ref made a poor decision in disallowing the goal. Personally I thought he got a lot of the calls wrong in the game.
Second half we struggled a bit to get much of a grip on the game but continued with the effort with Wolves looking dangerous on the rapid counter.

Overall Wolves deserved the win but the score line could have been a bit closer on another day.
Now hopefully we can continue the good league form into this year and move up the table.

Re Billy’s goal…..to be fair to the referee it was a fuckin shocking decision

You mean 6-2 closer

Yes but I still want to go to the lane (and away) and see us win every game...How do you square that circle?
Buy someone who can convert the chances we create. The problem has been the same since we got promoted. High pressing, high energy play will continue to give us chances to score but we simply don’t have anyone capable of netting 20 goals per season. Watching the games this weekend it was painful to see how clinical other sides (from all divisions) were. Furthermore, hearing the amounts paid for some truly excellent players (Demarai Grey for £1.8m anyone?) when Wilder pissed huge amounts up the wall for the likes of McBurnie and Brewster left me feeling even more bewildered. And please don’t tell me it’s about wages - they’re variable costs whereas transfer fees are capital sums so, from an accounting perspective it makes even less sense. Our balance sheet must look shocking with the write downs we are having to take on the £100m wasted on the dross we now have no option but to clear out.

He got us there on a shoestring, unfortunately he wasted the premiership money on players who wernt premiership quality.
I can accept he made mistakes with his recruitment, its walking out nthe back door that bugs me( something he said he would never do ).Most of us thought Wilder could do no wrong ,how wrong was that.
He proceeded to blame the Prince for lack of investment in the club structure.

Having said all that the players he signed are good championship players (most anyway) which means we should be able to have a crack at going straight back.
Prince messed up bringing in a head strong Serb who intended to play his way whatever.
First law of management !
Play to your strengths! Absolutely daft to play his way when it was clear as day we did nt have the players to make it work.Hecki hopefully salvaging ,the season , play offs still possible

As a club we’ve never been good at spending big I remember Richard Cadette being a lot of money in the day I think it was £120k he was supposed to be a 20 goal a season player but the United jinx hit! We’re more of a buy 20 players at £1 million and see which one works theres no pressure on the player but that takes time hence why we stay in a lower division, imo the youth system is the only way we could have any success and that’s where we should spend money.

Yesterday was also a testament of how a team (Wolves) can get promoted, survive the first few seasons and then build a decent team despite losing the manager who got them there.

When Robinson next takes the field we should get behind him. Wolves pace and class pressured us into bad choices. So, no blame here.

I'm sure we can pick up where we left off in our own league - not that I would take Derby for granted right now. Yesterday was a blip - we just couldn't cope with their quality.

As for the ownership, I do have concerns about an ownership that has slunk off into the shadows and where we are part of a group and not the sole priority.

I don't see yesterday as a barometer for how we'd do in the PL, Robinson would never be played in the PL, he's out of contract this summer and I think he'll be released, and if we go up I could see Didzy being only a fringe player or even released this summer - as good as he is - his finishing is not PL standard. Sadly we'd need about 8 new signings as starters if we went up! But if we go up we take it. Get some loans in and a few permanent players and develop the academy.

Sorry, but how can you claim they are “good championship players”? not one of the big ticket buys has made any impact this season.

Midfield still streets behind Prem level, with the 1st choice back 6 probably a 'good Championship' caliber. The back up is way off that however except for Right back.

Ndiaye and MGW are/can be a lower Prem attacking threat but we are still reliant on a 35 year old striker who is still better than the £50m+ we have who rightly can't get a game.

It's been a strange season so far! As I said SJ got us off to a terrible start ,the season really started as he was going.
We have been gazumped by covid as we were building up a head of steam, hopefully we can pick up where we left off covid permitting a long side more luck with injuries.

Whilst this squad isn’t in a position to compete in the prem make no mistake we need to get back there and quickly. This club needs that 170/180 million injection of cash the training ground and academy urgently need work in order to put us on a footing to keep going for the next 40/50 years and that won’t be happening it seems without an injection of cash.

There's still a lot riding on if the coaching staff can get Brewster firing like he did at Swansea,if we finally give up the ghost on him,we have to hope Jebbison is another Che Adams, otherwise we are looking at getting 3 proven goalscoring forwards in shortly to add to all the other positions that need upgrading.

Wolves are a top side. They’ve got clubs playing in Europe wanting their players. They had £60m worth of talent at the top of the pitch. We had Robinson and Kyron Gordon defending it.

Yesterday I expected nothing and it means absolutely nothing for the bigger picture.

The very first covid (lockdown/break) we were flying high, when we came back we was not the same.

Another enforced break (no fault of our own) we looked to have turned the corner, when we came back (yesterday) we was not the same.

Covid just keeps on >

I also don’t get the “too soon to go up” ideology. Even coming back down it would still strengthen us financially. There’s a reason Norwich go straight back up each time. We’d just need to do things better once up there. Better than Norwich and better than our previous effort.

I really don’t think yesterday affects what we are about in the league. Osborn was back on the left wing. The defence was makeshift. Key men - Egan, Davies, Fleck, MGW - missing. I fully expect us to continue where we left off vs. Fulham when we play Derby.

Wolves are now an established top end PL side very wealthy backers , we are nowhere near their level & never expected anything yesterday. I agree 100% that the gap between the PL and Championship is now a chasm .
Any side going up this season will encounter the same issues , unless you’ve got a rich benefactor you will probably have to yo-yo & build your side over number of seasons .
The EFL is littered with former top flight sides that spent way beyond there means ..one very nearby.
Let’s face it we’ve been a hell of a lot shittier states than where are at present so don’t get too despondent at yesterdays loss ⚔️

It's not really though, is it?

Sheffield United finishing 9th in 2019-20 with a squad full of League One and Championship players proved that.
I'd agree if that had been able to be sustained, but it wasn't and didn't because of the huuuge gulf that only allows for 'against-the-odds' surprise seasons.
