To be fair to Brayford re:equaliser

Let's all not forget that the whole situation would never had arisen if Done had kept Bxter's long ball in play instead of casually jogging over and sticking a lazy foot out and letting it run out off him. Most uncharacteristic and that turnover in possession lead to the goal. If Done had shown some urgency we potentially had a promising attack on ourselves.

Yes, it was unclear who was supposed to pick him up, and as we sacrificed width going forward he had an easy second half defensively and could go forward as much as he wanted to.

I'm interested in your views on who you think should have been picking their left back up?
For me, even in a diamond formation it should still be the responsibility of our right-sided midfielder when we're defending (in this case Reed).
If our full backs are expected to push right out onto their two full backs that just leaves our central defenders far too exposed.
The full back isn't Brayford's "oppo", their left midfielder is and he's playing centrally.
Reed ends up far too central in this case, possibly because he's not used to playing on the right side.

Thought that bit of casualness & carelessness summed up Matty Done's afternoon on Saturday - he was a total waste of space, the most ineffective player on the pitch.

(I say this despite being a big fan of Done's.)

We were all talking at half time about him being the one to sub as he was having so little effect. But the lazy nature of that particular passage of play was so disappointing and surprising given that normally, even when not playing well, we can always count on him to give 100% for the team.

It's always the case that, as fans, we concentrate on the failings that lead up to conceding goals - and more often than not, that leads to discussions about players "not good enough" and losing their place in the team. It doesn't help that arguments get shot down if we took all three points. In my opinion, the same failings that were apparent at Wigan (which felt like a win at full time) and Colchester, were no less or greater than against Swindon.

We've been crying out for a settled 11 for well over a year but the one Adkins has chosen lacks the basic attributes required to outplay teams. I could count the occasions we've outplayed our opposition this season on one hand. Those attributes are present in the squad, but we're still concentrating on buying new players. He, quite simply, isn't managing that situation and for that reason (amongst others, but mainly that) I think Adkins is failing. I can accept temporary failure when evidence of improvement is shown but I don't see it. We talk about it (he talks about it) but there is no evidence*. Results have remained consistently inconsistent and, in my opinion, performances are on a downward trend.

Swindon have managed to do what Guardiola refers to in this attack. For me there are three tasks/dangers, and we have only two players for the job. Listing this by danger order:

  1. Ajose in a central area on the edge of our box
  2. Kasim in space just outside the box
  3. O-Ottewill out on the wing
And then visualise this:

* Let's just assume Baxter is there to play them onside in this first phase. The linesman is gone as well. So, like what really happened, let's assume there will be no offside judged in this simplified situation.

I'd want Brayford to stick with Ajose and Reed to close down Kasim. Danger 1 and 2 averted.

A pass out to the left would have followed. Compared to what actually happened when he pushed up a bit, Brayford would have been in a slightly better position to close O-O down, and maybe Baxter, then, could have moved over to mark Ajose.
