Manure Man City Liverpool Chelsea and Arsenal lost the vote 13/7 so the five substitutes would revert back to three
WAIT FOR IT
These five lost but now they want another vote ...mmm that sounds familiar

Another vote until they get the result they agree with and have their way in having five subs WHY because they have huge squads

I hope the other clubs are not bullied into changing the original vote

If you vote with us we’ll lend you Brewster , watch the hands go up

It stinks of favouritism if there is another vote.Surely most clubs can see through this and refuse another vote.

I hope the five subs rule does not come back. also, the drinks break I hope that does not come back as well.

The drinks break won’t that was only brought in due to games being played later and into supposedly warmer weather

its a rush to get as near to us football with benches with 25 to 30 players on
be giving them oxygen after a spurt of running soon
bet they start stopping the clock within 5 years and the last 2 minutes start to take 25 minutes like that stupid US football crap
they make 4 15 minute quarters last 3 to 4 hours just to sell more hot dogs

BLAME SPURS for accomodating it in the first place

KLOPP is speaking about this in a newspaper this morning.

He argues that the season is 4 weeks shorter and there will be strain on players........and so 5 subs would help during a game.

Well Mr Klopp - great admiration for what you have done at Liverpool but quit simply get stuffed with your 5 subs.

To REST SOME of your players, then leave them out of the match day squad and let them have a mini break - YOUR squad is plenty big enough.

The Solution should be that for 12 months the PL should allow clubs to have a maximum of lets say 28-30 players in a squad instead of 25 - that way you and the other big 5 clubs can rest players during game weeks and not damage the integrity of the competition.

I just hope this Thursday the 13 clubs that voted to go back to just 3 subs keep the nerve, but it sounds very much like a few "smaller clubs may have had pressure put on them.

one wonders how tired these players get working for 1.5 hours every 4 days when busy
38 1,5 hours is 47 hours work a year so less than 2 weeks real time work per year

add on 20 more games if succesful in cups and that rockets actual work time to 77 hours a year
thats just under 2 weeks if a normal bod works 38.5 hours a week 48 weeks a year

my heart bleeds for players making themselves multi millionaires getting free medical treatment that would cost normal people hundreds a month for that level of private health care and free fitness coaching again people pay 630 to 120 a month to
travel everywhere first class and stay in 6 star hotels

the poor sods must get knackered

I see your point, but I'd probably throw up fifteen minutes through their first training session, then collapse after twenty. They're professional athletes doing many sprints, not at a desk or on scaffolding.

However, F*** the five sub rule. Just manage your squad as best you can.

but thats what sport is
testing your fitness,
when I started watching football there were no subs , no diet regimes, no body fat levels
no hit the oxygen levels or you dont play

but players lasted 90 minutes on heavy pitches , didnt play on manicured bowling greens

you played 90 minutes or played with less men,,,, great incentive to battle on

are you implying footballers like the liverpool team that won the league and eurpean cup doubles using 14 players in the sevenies and 80s were not professional athletes

Yes mate... But realistically, not being critical of 70/80s footballers, those players you're referring to would get beaten comfortably by the modern super athlete footballers. We can't prove that, but it's quite easy to declare.

Well you say they are professional athletes
Stats say on average modern prem player run 10km in a game
BUT
The world record for 10 k is 27 minutes
Its taking the football's professional athletes more than 3 times as long. . And 10 k runners do it without a rest.
They talk bollocks about being super fit then want to change half s team after 45 minutes.

Ronnie O‘Sullivan can Run 10k in under 35 mins... my pb was 42.30 ☹️ UTB

They're superfit, not superhuman. Do you think it'd take Chris Basham 90 minutes to do a 10k?

It’s a fundamental change to the game.
Almost one step closer to having continuous roll on...roll off subs like they have in 5 a side football.

It puts the onus on individual quality whereas stamina and fitness is no longer as important.
There would be winners and losers....teams with bigger budgets and bigger higher quality squads are handed a big advantage.

If the rule remains as 3 subs...I can’t see Rhian Brewster getting much game time at LFC...so Klopp will loanees him out.
However if it increases to 5 subs allowed....then you can imagine Brewster being required and getting plenty of sub appearances at LFC.

How far would they have to run in 90 minutes for you to accept that an elite player playing in the Premier League can be tired?
Just think any player who plays should last 90 minutes . Always was 42 games a season now it's 4 less art the elite end
Playing champions league means more money and still some moan.

Buts that's my point they are doing 10k in 1 hour 35 on average so why should they be tired .If they come off after 60 minutes they've only run around 6k

When someone sets out to do a 10k they do it at a steady pace from start to finish. Footballers don’t work at a steady pace (apart from Andy Gray when he played for us but that’s not the point). They are up and down, then might rest for a minute, then are up and down again. They jump, sprint, turn, fall over, get up, sprint again etc. It’s a completely type of fitness to a 10k runner.

Whilst I agree that we don’t need 5 subs, I think that criticising the fitness levels of elite footballers is missing the point completely.

Also, with all due respect to the footballers of yesteryear, it’s a completely different level of fitness required nowadays than it was even 20 years ago, never mind 50 years ago.

You are comparing distance covered but it is in the wrong context.

Football is basically short rapid bursts of acceleration and without going into a boring discussing about fast and slow twitch fibres in the muscles, its bloody ridiculously hard work.

Personally, give me a long distance jog over a bleep test any day of the week.

Side note: Fuck the 5 sub rule!
(Edit) Side note 2: derekacorah got in before me 😂

Even with five subs, more players play 90 minutes than don’t. Physically they are incomparable to players in the good old days and as others have said, running 10k is nothing like playing a Premier League game...

The thing about this that annoys me is simple hypocrisy, they talk about the strain on their players, yet play the same players almost every game.

I have gone off football a lot because of how football has become this clique of elite teams who buy up all the best players, young and old, for ridiculous wages. There is basically 6 teams in England and the rest making up numbers.

With Wilder I believe we can change the dynamics of football for the future, stick to our morals and principles, live within our means, concentrate on team unity and togetherness. But the sad fact is that money will probably always talk loudest.

I think today's footballers are generally healthier than in the 60s but is it better to watch. It's over tactical now and many games are like watching chess. Get 2 teams denying space with their fit athletes are amongst the most boring games you could wish to watch.
If playing behind doors has taught us anything the adrenalin players get from the crowds has highlighted how much the game needs the fans. They add so much to players drive and energy.. some of the games lacked more energy from the players who werent being lifted than the strange quiet atmosphere induced.

In the 60s crowds stood up and watched games and players were driven on to entertain them . Now crowds sit and wait to be entertained.. Athleticism has added fitness but sucked the drive out of some players. They seem happy to do 60 minutes then get pulled. Players always wanted to play. Some today just count the cash

You seem to have changed your point now. It’s now the desire of the players and not the fact that they can’t do a record 10k is it?!

I don’t think there are many players bemoaning their job.

The requests for 5 subs, drinks breaks, winter breaks and other such bollocks tends to come from managers. It’s not a coincidence that the managers are also incentivised to do anything in their power to win matches. For the top teams the additional subs could make this difference. For us it’s less likely to help and more likely to hinder.
