Jernade Mead, Left Back Released by Arsenal, Brother is a friend of Kyle Bartley, recommends him highly, worth a punt!!!

Davide Somma, Forward Released by Leeds, looked a goof player when seen him play before, few injuries tho,but maybe one to look at!!!

Danny Haynes, Forward Released by Charlton, got pace, half decent signing and has pace, which we havnt had up front for ages.

Stephen Foster, Centre Back Released by Barnsley, allways looked solid when seen him play.

Just a couple of shouts,of realistic players i think we could get, especially with budgets in mind!!!any thoughts???

These were signings I suggested a while ago for what I felt we needed and fitting into the young/something to prove category:

Ashley Eastham, 22, centre half from Blackpool
Aziz Deen-Conteh, 20, left back from Chelsea
Scott Wagstaff, 23, right winger from Charlton
Jacques Maghoma, 25, midfielder/winger from Burton
Korey Smith, 22, central midfielder from Norwich
Tom Adeyemi, 21, central midfielder from Norwich
Matt Done, 24, left winger from Barnsley
Danny Haynes, 25, striker from Charlton

I looked at that Aziz Deem Conteh, good shout and Haynes which i said, not sure on your other picks!!!believe ur right on the young, something to prove category, but the players i suggested just might give us abit more bite especially upfront with Haynes and Somma think they would compliment each other also.

There is a rumour on Bladesmad about a young striker from Alloa that Weir is very keen on, his name is Noel Makombo-Eboma... Scored 6 on his debut or something?

COURSE A FRIEND WOULD WOULD RECOMMEND THEM WELL AND IF WE SIGNED EVERY FRIEND'S BROTHER OF A PLAYER WE WOULD HAVE A REALLY GOOD TEAM..................................NOT:tumbleweed:

That debut was for Alloa's U17s ;). He is still only 17 but it seems a few larger clubs have been looking at him (including Everton).

Refreshing if Weir moves quickly on this. He may only be a development signing to start with but looks like the sort of person we should be gambling on.

Matt Done.....is he one of our ex youth players??

Nope, he was at Rochdale and somewhere in Scotland before Barnsley I think. Are you thinking of Ben Doane? :)

He wore the Green last season to no effect whatsoever.

Foster, although now getting on a wee bit, would be a great signing for this division.

Well who recommended Porter,Kitson,Cresswell and Doyle because there all rubbish and need putting down!as above the lad Meade is a free and could be gained on relatively cheap wages!I think foster would be a good signing for us aswell for where wi are WARDS!!!

Thoughts on new signings. Hmmm.

I'd like some please, preferably someone who would fill me with confidence, although given that I was fairly confident that Kitson was a good signing then perhaps keeping me happy shouldn't be the main reason.

We need quite a few players, but those who clamour for us to sign a "proven" goalscorer seem to forget that "proven" scorers are neither readily available nor cheap. We can only afford to gamble on a possible scorer, and pray that McCabe doesn't slap a big "For Sale" sign on him come January.

Similarly, "quality" midfielders are not sat waiting for us to come and sign them unless it's for more money than they're on right now. We cannot buy "proven" or "quality" players of the sort we'd like to, we have to gamble on players doing better with us than they have elsewhere, or go for those on the downward slope of their careers like Higginbotham, or get loans in, which hasn't worked too well so far.

Daz's list shows the sort of players we need to be looking at - young and with something to prove, having fallen short at their previous clubs. They are all, however, gambles. We can only afford to gamble. It's like your own personal finances - if you are very wealthy you are able to invest your money wisely, if you are at the other end of the money spectrum you buy a lottery ticket and pray. Each of these young players is a potential winning lottery ticket, be it a tenner, three numbers, five and the bonus ball or even perhaps those coveted six numbers on a Saturday night, after that shit game show has finished. We have no way of knowing if our ticket will win or not, just as we have no way of knowing how good a player will be. He might be a lottery win like Jags or Kyle Walker, he might be a waste of a pound like Doyle. Only time will tell.

Sums it up perfectly sv. We have to take a gamble on the unproven just as we did with the manager. There is no other option because we simply don't have the finance to attract tried and tested. It gives Weir the chance to prove how good he will be at spotting a player.

I know the 'footballing gods' have not favoured the blades for quite a while now as regards players coming to the end of their careers, not been too blessed on the loanee front either. But I don't believe it's all down to the 'gods'. Our style of play and tactical nouse as been shit, (apart from wilsons 1st season) even then his tactics were questionable. Get the style and tactics right, we may just find that the last big 'payday' players and loanees may well be a good thing.

This is what might actually happen.....We will get a couple of loans from Everton and a couple of youngsters from Scotland. Weir will concentrate on a solid defence....he is a defender....he might do what all good managers do and get an experienced player as on field coach ala McCall to marshall the youngsters. He might realise that the defence is already solid, so he will quickly be staring at a blank piece of paper.....he will then think...lets get the basics right....442...I know...I will get them to be the fittest L1 team...that will get us a few extra points a season. Ok thats it. Tracksuit on. Game 1. Ooh...0-0.....wheres David Moyes number....thanks for the good wishes David, but you cant give me anyone.....0-0....0-0....0-0.....Hello David its me again, you dont have a coaching job going do you, its shit here.

we need an 'uproven' goalscorer.. we won't get a proven one.. the trick is to spot them before they are proven.. we need to get rid of all of the old farts

Lads in the office at work rate these two from Norwich, really bright prospects for Champ/league 1 level, got to be worth a try, just the sort of young hungry something to prove players.

Korey Smith, 22, central midfielder
Tom Adeyemi, 21, central midfielder

I am sure there are others. Do the club invite players like these to trials for a couple of weeks to assess their abilities?

When the new signings do come, they will surely be a breath of fresh air in what was quite frankly an uninspiring team in terms of attack.
For me,id leave the back 4,(5)including george, well alone.
We need to bring a commanding, dominating and attacking midfield to the playing field, this includes a new captain as doyle clearly isnt captain material(as shown in the last 18 months).
Id be happy to keep Kmac in there with mcfadzean out right and flynn on the left,we could just do with an ankle biter with some savvy in in the middle.

What is with this idea of playing a left footer on the right and a right footer on the left no wonder we get few decent crosses into the box, for Christ sake it is basics to know they can never get to the by line and put a decent cross in to turn a defence.:confused::confused:

They are the two players I'd be jumping at to be honest. Decent on the ball, athletic and can get up and down the pitch. It's the type of midfielders we've been crying out for!

Adeyemi has already done well at this level with Brentford, so I can see him joining a Championship club but we should seriously be considering offering him a deal here.

It always takes us forever to sign anybody.

Other clubs, new manager in and you get 4 signing within a week. We'll be lucky if we get one signing in before august.

agree totally.. it does my head in.. it means that the attacker always has to check back onto their best foot which gives the defence chance to reset.. noone has ever succeeded with this tactic.. except Arsenal who had Pires on the left. but.. this worked because they had a certain Ashley Cole overlapping on the left and Thierry Henry had a tendency to drift left..
