Tonight really emphasised the piss poor standard of this division. It seems to get worse year-on-year. The football on show was atrocious from both sides, as it has been in pretty much every game at the Lane this season. Burton have turned up tonight and could barely string two passes together, along with miscued shots and clearances aplenty, yet they're top of the fucking league.
By Christ, either of Danny Wilson's sides in his two seasons would have swept Burton aside with a little chuckle at how easy it was. They wouldn't have needed to break sweat. We have missed the boat massively by not investing in a few decent players this season.
It's sad that people have become so accustomed to the awful level of talent on show that they consider Burton to have played well tonight. They haven't at all. They were a little less terrible than us, and that was enough. The technique of the players for pretty much all the sides I've seen this season astounds me for all the wrong reasons. Poor first touches followed by scruffy, inaccurate passes, clearances and shots. This, together with players misjudging the weight of a pass, or the flight of the ball. It is hard to believe sometimes that these are professionals; paid to do this as their job. They spend all week honing their craft to put on the shows they do. It's hard to know whether to laugh or cry.
This league this season really is a "least shit" competition. Moreso than any of the other years we've been here, and we have well and truly fucked it up.
Sad times.
