If we cannot compete with the others or more like WILL NOT compete with the others financially, then we may as well not be here at all. What's the point? We then drop down a division where we are most likely suited and our aim would be to finish 7th, as any higher would be a waste of time.
I enjoyed last season and would have lived happily consolidating our place this season. Instead, a few things have caught up with us, not least our precious wage restraints and we are paying the price for it. Having said that, I would have expected to have a few more points on the board by now even if we were nailed on relegation fodder.

We can compete other clubs our size have and do the issue is funds. You either have a rich owner to accelerate the process or you take the money the prem gives you and you invest sensibly. You do this both in players you think you can develop and an infrastructure which helps you do identify those players through scouting and produce them from your academy. What United does off the pitch in the next 2 years will tell you much more about what our ambitions are as a club that what we do on it (provided we don’t drop two divisions).

Also the Adkins season was worse because for me all hope had gone. We were completely turgid not even making a stab at the play offs ownership looked disinterested and I had a horrible feeling we hadn’t quite bottomed out yet and might be circling the drain. This time I feel that yes we’re not playing well on the pitch but I think there’s a vision off it and we’ve given ourselves a real chance to compete over the next 5ish years I might be wrong and we might squander that chance but right now I’m not anywhere near as crushingly resigned and apathetic as I was under Adkins.

All depends on whether people take solace in which division we’re in. It’s incredibly shit the winless run we’ve been on, but I suppose it’s less of a kick in the bollocks since we’re losing to the best teams in England. Expecting to beat teams like Bury only for them to do the double over us whilst we had players who didn’t give a shit was far worse and the club had a far more toxic edge to it.

I do think it’s total disrespect to suggest the man who transformed us from that Adkins season has gotten us to the top division only for a select few to say that it’s now worse than it was when he arrived. Total slap in the face despite getting us out of that cesspit.

I don’t find being a Premier League club that loses every single week any more fun or enjoyable than losing games in League One. They’re both equally as shit.

But we’re a league one club in the PL. under Adkins we were a championship club in league one. I’m worried when all this settles we’ll be back to where we were April 2016. That’s what’s tearing me apart.

Delusional. We're not at the ground so the sense of detachment means it hurts a lot less. If I'm being honest the post lockdown wins last season meant a lot less too. We're also much better at football than we were under Adkins. It shouldn't need stating really: we're losing by the odd goal at PL level, not L1 level. This team and management are also fighting despite obvious limitations.

It's embarrassing now, we aren't going to win all season, I can't see how it's possible??
And it might come as a shock, but I think we will struggle to finish top 8 in the championship.
Without us fans were nothing, whilst ever covid is about, we will continue in freefall.

I agree both equally shit but if given the choice I would rather lose to Man U and Everton at home than the team I've already mentioned.

We are alot better now than we he first took over, we are not a league one club. I think more of a top end championship tbh.

The Adkins era was disgusting and the players and management were a disgrace. There seemed no future. Nobody in their right mind can compare this set of players and management to that complete shambles.

This season as a season is worse though. We are basically relegated in December, haven't won a single game and are out of our depth in almost every game. It's hugely embarrassing being humiliated like this in front of the world.


So whilst I think it's ridiculous to compare this era to that one in terms of how bad we are and were, I haven't enjoyed a single moment of this season and there are still 23 pointless (maybe literally) games to go. I don't see how you can argue that this season has been more enjoyable than the Adkins one taken purely on face value.
