Why in Gods name do some of you get all excited about "having money to spend" when past history, that you've quoted many many times" and then are baffled when it's not spent on the team.
Because other teams, seemingly similarly shouldering debt liability, manage to sign talent or (shock horror) retain their talent? Whichever way you want to tart it up or excuse it away, it's the eleven men on the pitch and what they do with the ball and the enabling of which is on the critical path to success, here. Affective influences are there, granted, but aside from asking to explain why Forest have been so profligate this season and say, Boro sign Flint while we sign what seems to be a dud, you simply explaining that we acquire and/or grow talent simply to feed the costs of the club still doesn't wash.
We lose money every year, it's in the accounts.
And as we know, 'the accounts' are all very well and good as long as the accounting company are making the books look straight. I'd be surprised if any football club was any different. Joking aside, I don't think any of us think:
A. McCabe is as bent as
B. McCabe is on the make
There's zero evidence to support any of that and I give him more credit than to be hooky. But I feel there may be a feeling he is lying to us that the club is in deep shit and endless hock because of HIS fuckups. You've agreed with me before he's shown massive levels of incompetence and poor judgement. Wouldn't it be refreshing to hear that from the man himself? He's made another giant fuckup partnering him, the club and its supporters to what is emerging as a lodestone which has the potential to ruin the club once again with no clear resolution but a protracted (and costly, to the club) court battle, which is now starting to manifest itself (I believe) down on the pitch itself. This is all HIS doing, ST, not ours. We didn't sign shit manager only to have to pay them off because they were rubbish. We didn't excitedly announce a pairing with a form-previously-unknown Saudi 'billionaire' only to find our he had nefarious and highly honed methods to entrench himself in and amongst the club and extort leverage on McCabe himself. Is there any wonder no one wants the Prince at the club any more? Odd as it is and despite the chaos he has been custodian of, I feel many of us will take our chances with Kevin McCabe than some shady twat who has started to smash Sheffield United to bits already. But again … McCabe's mess … and the option is binary. Wrecking ball or hand grenade?
You can shrilly chip all you want with your asides and 'it's in the accounts' statements. We take your word for it. No one wants to scrutinise the myopic bullshit therein and even if they made it easy and we did, it would very, very possibly spell out the need we have to sell JO'C, Fleck, Billy and most of the first team just to pay some stupidly agreed get out clause for David fucking Weir if sacked before Christmas on his first year. All the declared accounts do is justify (to you and many) why we are eternally underhorsepowered and eternally underachieving. Who is the architect of all this? Why should we cut him some slack?
No supporter agreed to this situation. We were just encouraged (as with the HRH debacle) to 'get behind McCabe, because he's a Blade and he's saved our club'. Saved our club? Really? Have people been asleep since he came along?
