First post on here so here goes .......just something that NA said in the interview with Alan Biggs re Jamie Murphy when asked about interest in him the reply of " I believe their has been conversations " confused me a little conversations about what ??? Transfer fees ? To Murphy direct ? With other clubs ? Not criticising NA at all but an answer more like " he's going no where" surely would have been a better one as it stands it sounds like it is still all up in the air ..... Thoughts ?? Cheers

How could NA say he's not leaving? We all know that footballers will end up going if they want to go. He's simply not promising anything whilst being honest which is as much as anyone can ask.

I understand that but it's the their has been conversations bit that woo rise me ?? Are those conversations at a advanced stage ??

That could mean absolutely anything from contract talks to his agent simply speaking to the club about interest from elsewhere. I would imagine NA isn't in a position to be specific about any of it.

I wouldn't be too concerned. If he stays great, if he goes we get some extra money for the transfer budget. Murph is good but he's not good enough for me to lose sleep about.

Totally agree just sends out the wrong message again McDonald , maguire ........

If NA believes any player leaving will benefit in the long run to build the team he wants then so be it. 100% behind the manager, it's his to prove, felt same about NC at first, expected a rush of quality when Harry was sold but apart from Done don't think he made one good decision. So, like many others I turned on him, it the nature of the game.

Given our history I'm surprised anyone would expect a rush of quality after we've sold a player.

Could be wrong, but didn't Clough get JM to commit to a longer contract this last mid-season?

If he goes, hopefully he goes on our terms

I also agree with what you say about JM himself. On his day he's a handful for any team in any division. One of the comments I've always maintained about him is that when he plays well, the team tend to play well, it's just that he hasn't been doing it often enough, particularly the last couple of months of the season.

To be fair I couldn't care less. If he goes hr goes.

A new manager will want to see every player under contract , at first , then have a conversation about how committed they are and what their goals are and will they sweat blood or just jog .
These might save a player stood by the door , or hasten his exit with the aid of a gentle boot up the arse.

All a football club has is its players, look daft if someones shown the door before Adkins assessed if he could do a job , even only as an impact player or for 10 minutes in one game, if we oust a player deemed to have even some small value only to go looking for another to do a similar job .

I'm not sure that answer would have helped Sunjihi.
"He's going no where"
"He's going nowhere"
"He's going? no........ Where?"
"He's going no? where?"

We need to know! Just how would NA have said "He's going no where", had he even thought of saying it in the first place? What mid sentence punctuation would have been used. What intonation? Would there have been a rising lilt in his voice had he said the sentence that he didn't say?

I believe there have been conversations......but this wasn't one of them!!!

Why say he's going nowhere he might want to take an offer if it exceeds his valuation?
Fans will use the "selling our best players", then again fans were saying that last season when a rumour of a £2million offer for Scougal was going rounds.
I'd say most wouldn't have a problem with it now if it was still on the table, but I'd doubt it still is.

Let's make it clearer...managers don't manage contracts or transfers... The club will no doubt talk about acceptability of offers or interest and inform/ discuss with the manager. It'll be a club decision and players like murphy will attract tonnes of attention. He's a talent

Whether we accept any bids will come done to financial decisions, it doesn't immediately mean a lack of ambition if we sell, but perhaps sound business sense to reinvest rather than to spend and keep him

Either way I'd be surprised if there weren't conversations

You've got to be joking.
A player what the opposition has to put two defenders on him to keep him quiet.
all Atkins said was there has been speculation about murphy ,he wont show anyone the door
until he has had a good look at what we have.If he sells anyone we have to trust that will be in the interest
of improving the team.Surely he has come here to built a team to get promotion not sell it down the river

If Scouggs is worth £2million then Murphy is worth 5 times that.

I do like Scouggs but he's not worth that at this moment in time and might not ever be but he does have something about him that makes me want him to stay even though his record of goals and assists have been not far off non existent.

If Scoogs is worth £500k I'd be extremely surprised. Half a decent first season in league one followed by an injury plagued but otherwise awful season, I'd be surprised if he currently gets a value above 100k, potentially worth up to a million but 500k at best I reckon

At the moment that's propably a fair reflection, he does have some potential and could flourish under a new manager that will not hesitate to give a good young player a chance and maybe change his valuation to a million plus.

I wouldn't read too much in to these 'conversations'. It's probably just an enquiry that's been made by Fulham/Brighton and we are in the process of either ripping them off or telling them to fuck off. One of the two i reckon.

Or there could be a third option, that is them ripping us off and getting our best player for next to nowt:)

There was and still is a somewhat big pre-conception that the board are clueless. Appointing Adkins proves that they may not be so clueless after all, and if they can get a big decision like that as right as they have, i'd have complete faith they wouldn't let our best player leave for nothing. It makes no sense. Especially given how they approached and held out for a good deal for Maguire which, in my eyes was more than he was worth and if that money had been properly utilised by NC we would be sitting here discussing how to get out of the championship, and not L1 i'd suspect.

I agree. He took a while to settle in but he has become a great player and I hope we keep him. Not his fault if other clubs are interested.
