The World Cup

Been to a few after dinner speaking events over the years with now departed England WC winners.

Most have told the story about the Argentina players wanting to get into the England dressing room after the game. Seemingly only Jack Charlton was keen for them to be let in.
Those were the days! If a game was boring you could always rely on the occasional fisticuffs 😀

They have this peculiar talent for electing horrible presidents again and again. A bit like the Italians, from whom many are descended.
Italian presidents are OK, they're just like figurehead heads of state, it's prime ministers who tend to be bonkers! Having said that, although Giorgia Meloni isn't my cup of tea politically, the fact that she's distanced herself from the Orange Idiot, and in return he's gone "Nah nah, I don't want to play with you anymore", means that she can't be that bad!!

I’d love to go there and it’s been on my list for years. I think most places around the world people are generally welcoming.

I was a little surprised when she mentioned how anti English they are and it was in a football context, I guess in a similar way to how we sing about the Germans. But it is a good rivalry to have.

Not surprised that they don’t like Thatcher when they underestimated her and she destroyed their dream of trying to capture our islands in the South Atlantic.
It is a great place mate!! I'll respectfully disagree about Las Malvinas (are we allowed to respectfully disagree these days??). Too many young lads died for a chunk of rock. I went to the memorial in Buenos Aires, it was very moving.
More positively, they are football crazy, and when I was there people I had football discussions with had very much heard of Sheffield United, but hadn't a clue who the other lot were!!😂😂😂

It's a funny old thing about PUSA. He's gone a bit quiet about Iran now that they have proved they are still there and the straits are still not functioning. He clims some sort of 'deal' has been done yet it hasn't and the rest of the world are smacking themselves on the forehead saying 'what the fuck were you thinking?' and gesturing that for forty years it may have been favourable to erase an Islamofascist regime from the face of the earth but the practicalities are stupidly massively unachievable. But not for him, of course.

Now he's interfering with a global sporting franchise he doesn't even understand nor care for, save for 'doing a deal' and bigging his messed-up nation up for likes.

Somewhere, there still exists a piece of ammunition with his name on it.

This Haissem Hassan fella was at the French club the Prince owned...he left the same year he brought it mind

I don't believe we'll win the World Cup but if you'd said our route to the final after the group stage would be Congo, Mexico, Norway, and either Egypt/Colombia/Switzerland, i think we'd all raised an eyebrow and wondered.

I've just said the same to a guy at work.

Norway, and one of those three in a semi wouldn't be easy, but you won't get a better run on paper to a potential WC final!

Southgate success was based on avoiding tough draws if Tuchel keeps it up but with a track record as a manager who knows!

Argentina back in it. This could be a very interesting 10 minutes plus added on time.

Fair play to the Argies, kept their heads, backed themselves and attacked in a calm, controlled way.

Once again VAR getting involved where it shouldn't, chalking off a vital goal that would never have had any controversy around it whatsoever, had it stood. This is NOT what it was brought in for.
Then no VAR for macallster fouling egypt player in the box immediately before the argies scored

About time VAR is scrapped and the refs and associations can go back to cheating without the help of technology.

#Protect the big teams

A foul awfully similar to the one that caused the Egyptians goal to be ruled out.

But we can't have Messi and co going home the day after Ronaldo.

FWIW -that 3rd goal is ruled out if the MacAllister foul occurs outside the box. They just did not want to give Egypt a winner via VAR

I'm predicting a France vs Argentina final because that's what FIFA want. Whilst the golden boot winner has always been a 'thing' at previous world cups the onus on mbappe and Messi has felt manufactured, the fact Kane and especially Harland are up there perhaps an accident of both teams progressing further than assumed.

I don't have a tin foil hat, I just think increasingly big events like this have a preferred narrative and as FIFA are crooked as fuck it's not a leap to think things are being manipulated.

But they hate Mexico more than England as she was showing me argie memes about how much they must really hate Mexico if they’re supporting England v Mexico 😂

Got onto the subject of the Falklands the other day and she had a tattoo of the outline map of Argentina and the Falkland Islands on her leg. I just happened to mention that she can get that part removed by laser. She was not amused 😂
State our armed forces are in she could go over in a pedalo and take the island using only a board with a nail in it…
