The Wilder Covenant

Why do people think this squad is anything approaching good? I'm genuinely baffled at this repeated assertion.

Cooper, Tanganga, McGuinness and Kitching isn't a relegation base

Peck, Phillips, Seriki, Burrows, McCallum, Bamford, Donovan, Oné

it's more than enough, even if they're hamstrung by our fear football philosophy

There's enough professional pride to not get relegated

My main worry is our home form - we are weak as fuck there with disengaged supporters and it's an easy place for away teams now

I think we'll be about 16th

Great ingredients can’t save a bad recipe .

The problem is if you take the players individually it isn’t that bad. Bamford, Cooper, Peck and others are at the very least championship playoff standard. But it is very unbalanced and deficient in athleticism and creativity. The fact that we neither have big lump up front or some pace up front as an option is ridiculous

I think we (the majority of fans) and the owners are petrified of life without him.

I think it’s time to start to consider life without Wilder, but it has to be the right man.

I don’t know who that person is, I wouldn’t say my football knowledge is strong enough to throw names out…but you see Hull, Sunderland, Coventry they’ve all had managers that have helped them move on from being pretty stale and brought excitement back to their clubs.

Stoke were bang average today, they were there for the taking & Wilder get of jail free card is both goals were worldies and one was offside
Not petrified at all.

Excited about a future based on tactics and football ability rather than culture, passion and Peroni.

It's not bottom 3 of the league bad

I think it is, but I suppose the proof of the pudding will be in the eating.

Brereton-Diaz, Phillips, Choudhury, Arblaster and Bamford, for example, are significantly worse now that a couple of years ago.

You know who you are...

Look at yourselves, look how you are acting. Trying to reclaim lightning in a bottle that we once had, thinking it will all turn around based on nothing but delusion and former glories.

Do you believe everything he says? Are you not in the slightest bit concerned about the results of what's on the pitch day in day out?

He says nothing but bullshit, it'll be another great interview post match today and the performance will be back to normal after the intl break. He says all the right things to get impressionable people back onside, then nothing on the pitch changes.

You look and sound completely stupid. Just like the pigs. The sad thing is you can't see it.

Admit it, he's done. Who he once was is gone.
I liked this but am 100% against likening our fans who disagree to pigs etc. That’s just pathetic.

You might be right but what happens next season. The trajectory isn’t exactly positive. We need a thorough reset and if we get relegated so be it (unless they appoint a clearly useless candidate like Selles). Even so, on balance change is needed.

Yep agreed, but as I said you’re not the majority. If you put 1000 united fans in a room I think most would be scared of life without wilder

So if wilder stays all season and we finish in the bottom three in your opinion it’s purely down to squad and not wilder even though it’s a squad that wilder assembled?

£30k a week is still more than we were paying each of Brooks, Hamer and O’Hare. Far above the average salary in the league.

We will be paying more out for the three of those I mentioned, plus Ayew than Lincoln’s starting XI are, so let’s not pretend we are the paupers of the league all of a sudden.
Apparently O’Hare is on 32k a week at Wrexham

Pal of mine stayed in the Raddison Blue last night at East Midlands before an early morning flight and sent me a pic of Wilder, as the team must have flown down this morning. He said they were all on the Moretti. After that performance the must have drank it dry.
Why would they fly to East Midlands and from where, when they have a coach to drive them the hour or so to Stoke?

How's that even up for debate? The squad is shit.
Change managers and we could go down.
People keep trotting this out but it misses a couple of key points.

  • wilder assembled the bulk of this squad, so he can’t use ‘being shit’ as an excuse. We could have told him before signing them that most of them were past it.
  • we’ve got a top ten wage budget, the fact that it’s been wasted is on wilder.

We could change managers and do what Norwich or Soton did last year. The only thing that’s certain is that wilder takes us down.

Don't get me wrong, Wilder is far from blameless. Some of the signings are clearly his doing (Brereton-Diaz for example) but I'd be lying if I said I had any idea how much of the Summer business was down to Wilder and how much was forced upon him by our useless owners.

What I am saying is that a lot of fans have seriously overestimated the ability of this squad and will be sorely disappointed if and when a new manager still can't get a tune out of them.

Ai signings were thrust upon Selles where was all this sympathy and patience for him?

When we know for a fact these are wilders signings no one else’s.

BBD for a third time. Hamza second time. Phillips second time. Doherty an old crock and we all know how much he loves signing a right back. Tried desperately for souttar for a second time. He’s a broken man with no idea how to solve the situation and is clawing at things that have worked in the past in pure desperation. The only one I would be surprised to find out was his would be Donovan.

Long as I get some sort of excitement or can at least see some shoots of improvement i'll be happy enough

Phillips did his job today, peck and ollie should have just been given their heads to get in the box supporting Bamford.
Choudrey was a waste of space, Donovan should have started.
For me line up should have been
Baptiste, tanganga, kitching
Donovan, ollie, Phillips, peck, RND
Cannon
Bamford

You get me wrong, I'm not defending Wilder. If he was sacked tonight and I never heard his name again that would be fine.

People are chatting like this is a play-off squad merely being held back by the manager. It isn't. It's a relegation worthy collection of players.
