Roy was luckily sticking up for Wilder and blaming the board. He may have also said we were going down at one point

I don't think anyone can be seriously blamed for what they said at the time. There was no evidence that we were going anywhere but down

I don’t think I had joined the Forum at that point, so at least I can now post with hindsight but I would have had a post on there had I have been a member. I was done.

But I remember listening to Wilder’s interview after Millwall, I didn’t think he came across as clueless just a bit resigned to how shit it was for the club. I think he talked about whatever happened results wise, he’d leave the club in a better state than when he joined, however soon he may leave. Not sure of the exact wording, but I do remember he almost offered it to the board to sack him if they wanted. Crucially, he didn’t sound like Adkins or Clough, there was heart there and a definite steel to him.

My opinion at the time was that he was possibly too ‘tough/old school’ with the players we’d got, therefore unliked, and that’s why things hadn’t improved.

I had heard somewhere that Brayford was a bit of a cunt and of course he left towards the end of August 2016, so maybe that sharpened everyone up. The most expensive full back in League 1 history was fucked off. Who knows

I’ll put my hand up and say I wasn’t exactly enthralled by his appointment.

I was actually more optimistic with Adkins. But the geese video wore off and that went to shit.

Now I know that Wilder knew there would be a global pandemic 3 1/2 years later and we wouldn’t survive without us being in the Prem. So he got us there.

There were taken from a few to be honest. I have to admit I left out the few "come on its early days" posts as that wouldn't have been exciting

None of my comments in there, but I do remember commenting after the shambolic home defeat to Southend (possibly on Deadbat 's report) that if we continued to play like that, we'd get relegated. And I stand by that comment.

The great thing about Wilder is he quickly sees what is not working and does something about it.

I remember being fairly optimistic about CW coming in, but after 1 point from 4 games and an excruciating League Cup exit to Crewe where Leon should've scored about 7 I think I was talking about getting rid already and being out of his depth. Probably not on here though.

To go from there to 100 points is some turnaround. Haven’t looked back after that Millwall defeat!

Sheffield United’s dreadful start to the season continued as they went down to an embarrassing 3-0 reverse to Southend. The visitors had not won since beating the Blades last March and were rock bottom in form and results. Playing United was just the tonic they needed and they ran out easy...

What’s interesting from DB’s Millwall report was that there were far fewer comments than I expected. Yes, everyone is fairly damning about the performance. There are comments of this being a really bad season. But I was thinking there would be pages and pages of passionate anger – a ten pager at least. Maybe there were multiple threads not captured by a look at just this in isolation. Maybe the bulk of the anger was more so post-Southend. But I think it’s just as likely we’d all at this stage reached a numb malaise brought about cumulatively by the previous regimes.
