The value of Done

Except when he rightly drops Runaround Done, then he's got it wrong and they squeal like little piggies.

You have just made yourself look really stupid with that post.

I've criticised Done previously because of his low conversion rate but I have to concede that he must start with Billy. Very unnerving for a defender when he's chasing you down constantly.
Wanted him to net today and was disappointed when he went off. We have witnessed a lot of wage thieves over the last few years and Matty gives 100%. Hope he nets at Coventry.

The blinkers are all worn by those who laud aimless shadow-chasing as a substitute for making an effective contribution.

He'll either justify the appellation "striker" by actually striking now and again, or he'll be out on his arse again.

Unlike you lot, Tufty doesn't take any bollocks. He has Old Runaround's card marked. You'll see.

Never ever, in the history or geography of the world, has there been a group of football fans who do not want their team to get better.

Except, of course.... Yes, you've guessed it.

Fuck me, for someone who is apparently older and wiser you really do talk bollocks. We generally win with him in the team, nothing else matters.

John Harris knew how to blend and balance a TEAM - Wilder has learnt that Matty Done is an essential ingredient in that magical mix that allows the ball-players room and time on the ball. Who gives a toss who scores when you create so many chances and maul the opposition like we did today? Had Clark got the nod over Matty, we may well have lost that game today. You'd have thought fans would have learnt from all those home games in recent seasons when the oppostion played so far up the pitch and made us look as though we were at least one man short - make that 2 when Hammond was sloping around the turf.

It is absolutely no coincidence that Dones return sees the return of the type of team performance that has got us as genuine challengers for automatic promotion. Add to that the increased tempo in general when attacking, the increase in forward off the ball runs and a willingness to shoot and yesterday was a joy to watch after Swindons early neat and incisive start had been nullified.
Many on here highlighted those shortcomings quite rightly in recent performances and whilst there was still a tendancy to over elaborate when in a good crossing position and a succession of dire crosses in the first half,if Wilder keeps that level and intensity the there arent many teams will look forward to playing us home or away.
Specisl mention to the way the team continued to close down and press high up the pitch in the latter stages when they were home anf hosed.
Well done Lavery. Not sure about Clarke.
Brilliant team performance from (when Wright is back) our best balanced first eleven.

I'm not. Let's see where he's runninaround in Spring 2017..

Done will be here until the end of the season, I've no doubt about that.

Next season, hopefully we'll be a Championship club again. I'd then expect Wilder to be looking at 2 or 3 new strikers.

Of our current 4, I can see Sharp being able to "do a job", Done and Clarke would be on their way out and Lavery could have a future purely down to his age and previous experience at that level.

Which 'power of love'? Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Jennifer Rush or Huey Lewis And The News?

I wish I'd had a Huey moment (class tune) but shamefully it was Mr Goes To Hollywood that got an airing. Such fluid football is turning me all soft and tender.

Footballing teams in this league do not necessarily have the greatest technicians in defence. Done is priceless against these kinds of teams as he forces errors, miss-passes and allows other players time and space.

This. in the league above he's just look a fool but against league 1 defenders he causes mistakes and that is all part of the pressure game Wilder is deploying.

As both Knill and Wilder keep saying though they want forwards who score. Billy gets 1 shirt based on goals and the other is up for grabs until one of them starts bagging regularly

I keep telling you - Done isn't a striker. He'd be better doing Laffertys job on the left because he's a midfielder. Really appreciate his workrate but a striker would have scored that chance in the first half - it's about 5 sitters now that he's missed in the last few games he's played. I'd also point out another chance when the ball was whipped across the box and it only needed a toe on it to put it in - Done was there but missed that too.

I'm a fan of Done, but not as a striker. He made a good contribution today but play the lad instead of Lafferty and get Clarke or Lavery alongside Sharp - then we'll have the best of both worlds - with menace and pace and workrate from Done and finishing from Sharp, Clarke and Lavery.

Done as a left wing back?!?!?! Nigel, is that you?

Pretty simple really, CW said on Radio Sheff tonight that Matt Done is doing everything right apart from scoring, his work rate and positioning is great, and that goal will come, and once it does, he will be off and running. He said he will start again next match. Manager's words, not mine, and that is all that counts really

Obviously you can't read between the lines.

Obviously you can't read between the lines.

A pathetic series of posts from Pinchy.

Why he can't just be happy with the win and put the 'runaround' drivel to one side, I don't know.

All this 'I know more than you and will have the last laugh when my big mate CW gets rid of him' is tiresome.

Putting up 'straw man' arguments to pretend there are thousands of stupid Blades who only support Done (or Monty) and want their man in the team at all costs, is childish.

Credit where credit is due. Done was part of a super team performance, end of.

Grow up man, admit he played a part and stop trolling.

For the here and now he is an asset that is being put to tremendous use. We've got him playing a role up that benefits the team in a number of ways.

Would he be as effective in the Championship? I doubt it.

Luckily we have Chris Wilder as Manager who knows this level and clearly knows what is needed to succeed in it.

He gave Done a reassuring "well done" arm around the shoulder when he was subbed. If I interpret that body language, it looked like he sees it the same.

I'd love to know exactly what CW did say to Matt as he came off. I'd imagine it was along the lines of, "You were brilliant for us out there today Doney, you're part of the reason that's got us 3-0 up, don't get down about not getting a goal, keep doing what you're doing and it will come".

All these arguments about his lack of goals and 'limited technique' (which I don't understand) will melt away as soon as he's scored a few, and he will. I just think some people understand his worth to the team and particularly how important he is to the way that CW wants the team to play. He's pulled their defenders all over the park for 60-70 minutes (with Sharp too), which has meant that Lavery could have had a hat-trick when he came on.

According to BBC stats, 19 shots on target to their 1 - as a team, we must be doing something right eh?

We ❤️ Mediocre Triers. No talent required.

Where do you reckon he will be then Pinchy? I reckon still in the team and if not, still in the match-day squad through till May 2017. If promoted still in the squad and unsold in August 2017. That's my £100 to Children's Hospital still on that. If I am correct and you aren't will you do the decent thing akin to the penalty or failing to reach the ladies tee?

Yes mate. Only missed the EFL Cup and Checkatrade and Southend games this season at home. Been to maybe half the away games. Did I miss something or are you just saying you disagree?

Sorry mi owd, didn't have the time for a full post and I have no doubt you are a full timer as opposed to my part timer credentials nowadays. No, what I meant was, I disagree because (a) we know he isn't a traditional striker having been converted by Rochdale and therefore (b) we have to accept that he is what he is and does what he does for the benefit of the team. What he does for the team is apparent to those watching the unbeaten run this season. Further, (c) CW had said at the start of the season that Done was wasted as a fullback/wingback (I'd call him a liability) and wouldn't play him there this season (music to Done's ears) and (d) Adkins played him there and you may not have agreed at the time but the consensus of opinion was that he was a disaster. I think that about covers what I meant.

We saw it again last night, against Cov. He's make a difference to the side, it isn't any coincidence that when he went off, our dominance dropped. Wilder likes sides who press from the front and dictate the tempo, Done does just that - much, much more than any of the others do. Clarke isn't made for it and Lavery has the pace but doesn't do it as well. Done also makes those on the shoulder runs, that others don't and it will come off for him soon.

Sorry but Done was dogshit last night

Said the same on the other thread. While Done's finishing is woeful he makes such a difference to this team. The quick pressing Wilder wants the team to play comes straight from Done at the top; while one player doesn't make a team, we are a lot easier to play against when he goes off.

Our overal dominance might have dropped when Done went off but I thought we looked more dangerous up front with Lavery alongside Sharp. I thought the kid looked the part last night when he came on, and was very unlucky not to score two great goals, and with his 'weaker' foot. When was the last time Done had shots like that?

I suppose it comes down to whether or not we want a striker who will chase and worry the opposition's defense and hope Sharp scores enough for two, or one who will be a threat in his own right and compete with Sharp for top scorer.

For me, although in certain situations Done will be an asset, if we'd got two strikers scoring regularly Done wouldn't get much of a look in, because having twice the goal threat would be enough to occupy most defences without having one of our strikers chasing them down for most of the game.
