The value of Done

As I said before kick-off, I wanted Done to play well and score. It's there in black and white. Unfortunately the Runarounders are not so fair minded. They have a tantrum when the limited trier is rightly left out. They then fervently hope that the player Tufty picks in his place fails.

I support United, whether my favourite [Paul Coutts as it happens] is selected or not. Not so the Runarounders; they squeal like pigs when Tufty leaves the non-striker out. I did not invite them to support another team; merely surmised that they might, such is their devotion to old Nogoals.

OK, you're entitled to an opinion, but your negativity on a good night leaves me cold.

What utter bollocks
They simply point out that the team worked with him in it, then didn't when he was dropped. They were proved right when he was picked again today.......
and you just cant accept you were wrong

Done's value is to the team - which we have missed since CW decided to play Clarke up top.

I do find Done's finishing strange - for the ones who went to Fleetwood, Done missed an absolute carbon copy chance after a few minutes. That miss led us to only draw when an early goal would have led to us winning comfortably. Good attackers make an angle or try and slip it under an advancing GK or dink it over the top (Chapman v Crewe). He really has to go left or right and make an angle that the GK can't cover. Needs to get on the training ground with 1 and 1's.

Even so - I was on my feet when he was subbed - he brings a lot to the team.......if only he could finish.

UTB

Can't be arsed to read through all the thread because I'm 10+ pints in to the day but LoughboroBlade nails it....

Done with his work rate and pressing allows our midfield to receive the ball in advanced areas and boy do they make the most of it.
I'm 30 years old and i have never had the pleasure of watching our midfield dominate games like we do now. The oppostion literally can't get nowhere Fleck, Coutts and Duffy and it is an absolute joy to watch ❤️

I am, mate. I really am. I am hugely enjoying the football our team is playing under the excellent, inspirational Tufty. But Tufty is already planning improvements as he builds his team. He doesn't intend to stand still.

Don't expect Done to be a first team regular in 2017. Tufty expects his strikers to score more than a pitiful two goals, whatever their other attributes. He's quite right too. When he thinks of our starting XI for next August, Done's name is conspicuous by its absence. You can bet on that.

Sorry, Runarounders. Maybe go and support whichever team to which your intrepid hero is eventually offloaded?....

Yes i fucking hate it when Done starts and we score 4 goals AGAIN the useless cunt :)

Everyone is saying Done offers a lot but can't finish and doesn't score enough goals - but funnily enough when we first signed him he was putting every chance away that came to him. So he's definitely got it in him. Maybe he's suffering a little from Sharp having that main poacher role.

It's almost as if certain people here are watching a parallel universe version of football where only goals scored by strikers count towards the end result. Can these people tell us what Germany did in the summer of 2014, as I'm pretty sure they wouldn't even have qualified for the World Cup where they are

Football is a team game and we saw today the forwards playing their part....Done had a great game for me and Billys cross for Duffy was sublime.

The midfield 3 were superb!

Yes we need better players but that was good to watch....unless you know different!

;)

Only 10? come on Slug, keep up mate!

I keep telling you - Done isn't a striker. He'd be better doing Laffertys job on the left because he's a midfielder. Really appreciate his workrate but a striker would have scored that chance in the first half - it's about 5 sitters now that he's missed in the last few games he's played. I'd also point out another chance when the ball was whipped across the box and it only needed a toe on it to put it in - Done was there but missed that too.

I'm a fan of Done, but not as a striker. He made a good contribution today but play the lad instead of Lafferty and get Clarke or Lavery alongside Sharp - then we'll have the best of both worlds - with menace and pace and workrate from Done and finishing from Sharp, Clarke and Lavery.

You been watching recently?

Yes mate. Only missed the EFL Cup and Checkatrade and Southend games this season at home. Been to maybe half the away games. Did I miss something or are you just saying you disagree?

I'm not. Let's see where he's runninaround in Spring 2017..

We ❤️ Mediocre Triers. No talent required.

Meh. We could do with an improvement.

He couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo.

You know, it's really easy to sit from an ivory tower and say that you "call out mediocrity."

If, after a 4-0 win, you decide to come on to a forum and only type negatives, I think that says a lot about you.

Done may not be in Wilder's team in the future, but please don't insult our intelligence by pretending you know Wilder personally... the "Tufty expects this", "Tufty expects that" line doesn't make you right.
.

We'll see.

No I don't know him personally and have never claimed I do. I leave that to self-important types like Cowens.

However, I do listen carefully to what Tufty says and it's not difficult to read between the lines...

As I say, we'll see...

Afraid FACTS and RESULTS prove otherwise.
Your totally twisting it. As I and others have said, he may not be the answer long term but there is little doubt he's the best to partner Sharp right now and results prove that. You don't go on a 15 match unbeaten run "carrying" a player. He must be doing something right. Even with your blinkers on surely you can see that whether you like him or not

Pretty simple really, CW said on Radio Sheff tonight that Matt Done is doing everything right apart from scoring, his work rate and positioning is great, and that goal will come, and once it does, he will be off and running. He said he will start again next match. Manager's words, not mine, and that is all that counts really

Spongebob you are right about the unbeaten run. I think Done was dropped because his performance levels dropped against Shrewsbury and Bury. Today he was very good, apart from his finishing which was shit as usual :)

The blinkers are all worn by those who laud aimless shadow-chasing as a substitute for making an effective contribution.

He'll either justify the appellation "striker" by actually striking now and again, or he'll be out on his arse again.

Unlike you lot, Tufty doesn't take any bollocks. He has Old Runaround's card marked. You'll see.

Never ever, in the history or geography of the world, has there been a group of football fans who do not want their team to get better.

Except, of course.... Yes, you've guessed it.

Except when he rightly drops Runaround Done, then he's got it wrong and they squeal like little piggies.

I am just saying what Chris Wilder said on the radio as I was driving home Pinchy, that's all.

That's Chris Wilder who has forgotten more about Sheffield United and football than some lowlife idiots will ever know.

Dones value? Resoundingly proven today.

Well done Matt and well done to the mighty Blades of S2.

Matt Done is a nightmare for defenders, at this level, he closes down the least able footballers in the team and the benefits and rewards are there for everyone to see, except those who don't want to see it?

Today, Duffys tap in owed a lot to Done, who got across the defender to prevent him from easily cutting out Sharps cross.

Overall I thought he had a great game and contributed to a fantastic team performance. UTB :)

Like I said. Twisting it to suit your own argument. We are talking here and now. Not January

So, this season have our results been better with Done starting in the team or with him out of the team?
And if the results are better with him starting do you think it is because of what he contributes to a game, or do you think it is mere coincidence?
As I see it, he's not the most talented footballer on earth, but he definitely has a positive influence on the team.
Whether or not he is here next season is irrelevant to how we are performing now.
