In the fairness of balance Norwood challenge late on? That's a red in VAR World bit of a follow through I expected a red but he got away with that one ... UTB

Norwood's was worse, but he did try and pull out of it at the end.

I don't think Hume's was a red. It looked bad on first sight but he just mistimes it and makes sure he takes Jebbo out. Studs aren't up. Challenge isn't that high. Unlike Norwood's which is terrible.

Norwood's should never be a red card in my opinion. Not even sure it's a free kick. I absolutely detest the red cards where a player gets the ball and just happens to cause a bit of pain to a player that got to the ball second.

I get why our players asked the question to the ref, but I'm not really sure why Sheffield United fans would want these to be red cards - we love a reducer don't we?

As people have said, its definitely a borderline Red, and could have gone either way.

I think my frustration with it was there were some extremely soft yellows given to our players for challenges that were borderline No card/Yellow. If you are going to give a yellow for those, I'd like some consistency at viewing Humes challenge as a Red. Otherwise you end up in a situation where the range of tackles that get a yellow is far too wide.

As a thought experiment, had Doyle (for instance) made a challenge like Humes in the second half, he'd have almost certainly been sent off for a second yellow. Does anyone think Hume would have received a second yellow had he made a challenge like Doyles?

It's hardly clear cut. Robinson and Baldock arguably make 75% of their tackles with excessive force.

Doyle left one on Hume before Hume's booking. Advantage was played so no freekick. I think the one by Doyle right in front of the ref was taking the first one into account.

Who had extremely soft yellows? Anel, Robbo and Lowe's are blatant yellows.

I'm going by memory, so hardly comprehensive, as well but he came in late to a tackle and the ball had already gone. To the extent the ref had turned to follow the ball. Horrible tackle. Would have gone with VAR checking it, imo. I think he went into the lad's knee with his studs. He did try and pull out but far too late.

As people have said, wouldn't have been surprised if it was a red but I think a yellow was justifiable, by a slim margin. It was miss timed more than anything but for me it felt quite personal, it was a scrappy game, many yellow, lots of shirt pulling from both sides and I think they were just getting pissed off. If I remember correctly was it Anel? Who practically barged their player out the way to win the ball for Jebbo? And alot of the Sunderland players/fans seemed pretty unhappy about that.

To be honest I felt for the ref in that game, awkward one, very physical, few penalty shouts, awkward call on our second.

Agree. There were lots of silly little free kicks for pulling etc. The trouble was that once he gave a yellow for the first one, he had set the standard and had to follow or cause himself a lot of dissent

I remember Jimmy Fleck doing a very similar tackle in front of the dugouts at Bramall Lane and getting a straight red card.

Amazing for Jebbison he must think wtf is going on i got sent off for a fairy tap swipe at Wrexham and i get cleaned out and he gets a yellow.

The way O'Nien was trying to get up didn't suggest to me that Norwood studs had hit him above the knee. The lack of reaction from the Sunderland players suggests to me that the injury was caused by impact with the ball and not Norwood's studs
