Late, high and forceful, but essentially a glorified trip (don't think studs etc)... I'd be annoyed if JLT was sent off for it. Can understand it being a yellow.

Don Goodman was being a twat acting like we were Chelsea under Mourinho, constantly pressuring refs. Understandable we asked the question on that occasion.

He was late high and had a scissored action.
To be honest as well when I've watched it back a few times it doesn't look like he was watching the ball.

Alot of the talk post match is about our winning goal but this is just as bad.
There were other questionable decisions too. Think one of our lads could also had seen red.

But sorry not a pen for that Anel challenge in 2nd half.
Equally they tried to take egans shirt on our freekick that won the game.

In the fairness of balance Norwood challenge late on? That's a red in VAR World bit of a follow through I expected a red but he got away with that one ... UTB

Never mind about the tackle, what about our terrible players all rushing the ref after?! 6 point deduction.

goodman completely glossed over that horrendous tackle by going on about our players surrounding ref if it had been a united player who made the tackle he would definetly have been saying red card its so blatantly obvious from every commentry that goodman and hinchcliffe hate us they should be removed from any united game because of this

Yellow card all day long for me. Didn't look great, but he just mistimed it/Jebbo was too quick. If one of ours got a red for that I'd be unhappy.

I made a Sunday league career making that sort of challenge 😁
Red all day long, Hume or whatever his fucking handle is never made an attempt for the ball he meant to get the man (jebbo) and did him, dirty bastard!!

It’s the clichéd “orange card”, it’s absolutely a yellow and could easily be a red. If one of ours gets sent off for it we’d be angry but you could see why it would be given.

It’s also the other cliché, he’s given the referee a decision to make. If VAR had asked the ref to go have a look at it you still wouldn’t know if he’d stick with his decision or upgrade to a red.

I remember Lundstram getting sent off (Palace away?) For a tackle that got the ball but used excessive force. The tackle on Wednesday night was late, studs up, out of control, high and used excess force. It also looked deliberate. If he had got Jebbos standing leg it could have been career ending.

Brighton Away

As people have said, wouldn't have been surprised if it was a red but I think a yellow was justifiable, by a slim margin. It was miss timed more than anything but for me it felt quite personal, it was a scrappy game, many yellow, lots of shirt pulling from both sides and I think they were just getting pissed off. If I remember correctly was it Anel? Who practically barged their player out the way to win the ball for Jebbo? And alot of the Sunderland players/fans seemed pretty unhappy about that.

To be honest I felt for the ref in that game, awkward one, very physical, few penalty shouts, awkward call on our second.

Think it was Brighton away we were in the pink shirts

Pretty much this. Anyone saying it wasn't a yellow is deluded, anyone saying it's definitely a red is almost as deluded. It's a bad strong challenge, and still pictures like in the OP can always be timed to make whatever point you want to make. Nasty yellow, wouldn't have been surprised to see a red, it wasn't, we move on

It was as much a red card as Norwood's was. Maybe, with VAR, both would have been given.
Glad they weren't though. Just a strong, mistimed challenge.

very short one if centre forwards were skipping past you as though you were nailed to the ground 😉

Not a glorified trip, he's out of control, could easily have caused serious injury
