The Story of Derek Dooley

Nightmarish stuff, firstly as the saw appears from nowhere to chop off Dooley’s leg, then later as the disembodied head of Neil Warnock suddenly appears out of nowhere. “Haunting you all is my one true last job”

That brought tears to my eyes - what an inspiring guy DD was.
I met him personally at BDTBL just before McCabe was appointed. DD met me and my mate at the ground and he gave us a quick tour and personally showed us to McCabes office to introduce us.
He will most likely be the only person EVER loved and hero-worshipped by both sets of fans !!

Dooleys son is a Wednesdayite.

The media always used to ask Derek Dooley which team he supported and he always smiled and replied “he supports both Sheffield teams”.
He grew up a big Wednesday fan but being sacked on Xmas Eve whilst SW manager really sullied his affection.
He joined the boardroom at Bramall Lane and developed a strong affection for United.

Its very rare anyone can say with total honesty that they genuinely have so much love towards both Sheffield clubs.

I remember going to the rusty when Utd were playing away, just to watch in awe this giant of a lad powering towards goal with defenders falling by the wayside like skittles.
The boots in those days were pretty basic, and favoured "toe ending" shots on goal. he could hit a ball almost as hard as Woody but not with Woodys finesse. It was a crying shame what happened to him, today he would be worth £80 mill easily. So glad he came to us after the shameful treatment by their board. Rightfully revered by both halves of the City.

Don't include me in the hero worshipping.

Have something in common with Derek Dooley, me.
I was sacked once on Christmas eve an' all.
Shit job anyways.

"Here you are PL, thought I would just give a helping hand to lift the blades back where they belong, under another son of Sheffield".
Hope ya smiling Derek, RIP

Great photo btw.
Perfect...and thanks

Just waiting for the “take the statue of the Wednesday player down“ muppets to arrive..

My dad (still alive and going to The Lane) did his national service with Dooley at RAF Hemswill Cliff.
Dooley of course played football for the RAF whilst my dad was in the boxing team
Being Sheffield lads Dooley invited my dad to football training - well after the practice match all the defenders limped off, dad a big bloke himself regretted going in for a tackle as Dooley knocked him flying - they then went off for a pint together 🍺
Dad said he was a smashing bloke but best avoided on the pitch
