Should anyone still be under the impression that the Stir is non-biased may I point them to the back page of to-day's edition. Two headlines: one for the pigs where it talks about Nadine who had been sent off in their last match- the heading is 'Strikers scramble for Gary's spot'. The larger heading is 'Wilson wants more'. So, talking about our manager its Wilson, but a bit-part player for the pigs is Gary? Show some bleeding respect! And whilst I'm on one, anyone else noticed that James Shield's reports are getting even lazier than normal? The last two have not even included who actually turned out for us let alone their scores out of ten! Or am I being too picky?

In a word - yes

Supporters read too much into supposed media bias.

With the greatest respect I think this is the case here.

It is their job to be impartial but no matter what they print/say they will get it from someone.

We live in a cynical world.

The Star is biased because they use a surname for our manager, even though United have the larger heading?

Unless this is heavy irony, you really need to get out more.

I know one of the reporters/writer who's worked for the newspaper for years personally and I could believe he would write such an article. Very Very big Weds follower. Couldn't myself see him being impartial. So it can happen IMO.

After the Derby they , produced a photo/video , 23 Photos of pig fans and players , 9 of ours hence i wont buy it , but read it free on the net , any one for a 20 million quid haircut ? , co-op i wont go there either .

Your bored. Please tell me your just bored.

I don't believe they are biased. If they were it would be far more obvious than this kind of stuff.

They've had Megson on Football League Weekend tonight, does that make Sky biased as well?

The debate between both sides on who dominates the local media is quite interesting. We claim its them, they claim its us. Some might say that that in itself shows balance, but I suggest that if both sets of fans think its crap and biases against them, then its just really poor. I dont suppose its easy when the medium is dying, but the Sheffield Star in particular is very disappointing even against the Yorkshire Post, not just on football, but across the board. Although I do have a look on the Star website from time to time, there is nothing in terms of 'news', just a few stories that surely aren't the most important or interesting things going on in the city, along with some placed advertorial piece about Billy's new carpet shop or pie shop. Their five featured stories on the web today are

A fundraising call from the parents of some poor kiddie who needs some surgery in the US
A poll about whether Sheffield should have a mayor (no analysis to help you make up your mind)
Some wanker who got thrown out of his council house
A warning from the police about halloween mischief
Clarkson finally giving up over trying to hide who he's been boning (what was she thinking..?)

James Shield's contributions in particular look they are cobbled together out of text messages nowadays under the watchful gaze of a sub-editor who only managed a GCSE Grade D in English. The 82 comments from pubescent piggies on the end of every United story are irritating.

Whichever, I too am amongst the many thousands who will never actually go and buy a copy.

I used to get really annoyed with how they pandered to every little detail of the lunatic Strafford when he was there
The pages of wild rants they gave creedance too was only ever matched in Libya, tripoli times on gaddafi when he was still in charge

I can't remember the last time I actually bought a copy of The Star. My wife stills buys it, much to my dismay. I point out to her that she can read everything that's in it and more on the interweb, but she still parts with money for it around four times a week. I have yet to work out why. It's not that there's a bias one way or the other that gets me, it just that it's shit.

Think the OP is a pretty poor example of pig bias in the Star. However, there have been far, far more blatant examples over the years, and are definately bias towards the pigs. Don't buy the Star anymore for that reason alone. And don't buy the Green Un anymore due to the disgraceful 40% price hike at the start of this season.
