Blimey. I thought I was paying the fella compliment. That told me!
I was worried it was going to negatively impact my 'like' ratio......
On what planet is my post 'glass half empty'? It is realistic to think it's a huge ask for us to beat Spurs by 2 goals. I haven't said we CAN'T or WON'T win the tie, it's perfectly reasonable for any sane human to think we have a huge task in getting through. Forgive my realism, I forgot you don't apply the rules of sanity or logic when reading my posts!
That's my way of thinking too....I am worried about them getting one early and that would be it.....no,way we can score 2....steeling myself too.....As ever, I am pessimistic. As I said, it's the way of United to think we have a chance (cf Half time in April) and then bugger it up.
I reckon a 1-0 win for Spurs (but that could be me steeling myself for disappointment).
Totally agreeIf Spurs get an early goal we've had it. The fans will go quiet, the players' heads will drop and it'll be party time in the Bramall Lane stand. We need to keep it very tight early on til the game settles. Then see what happens....

We would need to score 3 due to the stupidity that is away goals.
Key is 1st goal - of we get it we will win.
Planet Earth Mr Doom Planet Earth !
It is a big ask to beat Spurs by two goals but given the way the capitulated against Leicester at home on Saturday with just 10 minutes left very possible - if we manage to be 1-0 with 10 minutes left on Wednesday do they push on to try and score that elusive away goal - whatever they chose we have a chance, a good chance of getting a result from the tie
Mr Doom - Believe and it may happen !!
And yes I do apply sanity and logic when reading your posts - It's just that you seem to find ten negatives to every positive !
One comment on the first part of your statement: under Clough, in 19 cup games, not once have our heads dropped. Even when we've shipped a goal or 2 or 4 or 5, been up against international (so called) superstars, had a man sent off, be it away from home or at home, one thing has been certain, we've battled to the very end. 90+ minutes, extra time, penalties. We've see the lot haven't we? Yet we've battled, showed character and kept battling... I'd also say that the crowd hasn't dropped its tempo at all. Against Forest last season and seemingly at Wembley, the atmosphere remained throughout. If Spurs get an early goal we've had it. The fans will go quiet, the players' heads will drop and it'll be party time in the Bramall Lane stand. We need to keep it very tight early on til the game settles. Then see what happens....

I think Clough needs to play similar tactics from the first leg for the first half, and try and go in at 0-0. Then in the second half, do what we didn't do in the first leg and get forward in numbers.

If I've missed an occasion where we've dropped our heads and the crowd gone quiet, let me know. But I think I'm right on this one...
You're absolutely right, we do need to keep it tight, I'd imagine that we'll get men behind the ball again, allow Spurs lots of possession and hit them on the counter. Away, we wanted a 0-0 or even a modest 1-0 deficit, but at home, second leg I fully expect us to get forward in numbers, but keeping organised as well
No issues with pessimism and i think almost all those games we've had people thinking we'd get hammered...Fair comment. It would be a lot bigger task than we've had before though and a real danger of getting battered.
For the record, I'm one of the people who finds pessimism the best way to cope.
Read it again:
My biggest worry is that we were excellent first leg and they were terrible (by respective standards), yet they beat us 1-0 without us having a shot on target. So, it seems unlikely we would be at our best whilst they are at their worst AND still score the 2 goals required to go through. Here 's hoping. The biggest shame would be them scoring in the first 10 minutes, what a crap tie it would be then!
Besides stating facts, I am struggling to find the "10 negatives" in this post. Maybe, just maybe, you've read too much into it. I never said I don't believe, I never said we can't/won't win, I was simply realistic and gave a fair assessment.
Here's a post to appease you then, just for balance:
Fuck em. We'll beat em 4-0. Don't know what everyone's so worried about. We smashed em at their place, they got a lucky hand ball when we dominated chances and possession. McNulty was running Vertonghen and Dier ragged, Harry Kane was nowhere to be seen, and really we matched them for quality all over the park. In fact, I reckon, we might even have a slightly better squad than them. We'll breeze past them, not scared of Liverpool or Chelsea in the final, we're probably better than both of those too. OH WHEN THE BLADES, GO MARCHING IN!!!!!!!
Better?
Disagree. Think the home crowd will stay noisy! If Spurs get an early goal we've had it. The fans will go quiet, the players' heads will drop and it'll be party time in the Bramall Lane stand. We need to keep it very tight early on til the game settles. Then see what happens....
Whatever happens, I'd trade both cup runs, even a wembley appearance, for being 6 points off 2nd place.
I'd have the cup final and stay in this division another yearWhatever happens, I'd trade both cup runs, even a wembley appearance, for being 6 points off 2nd place.
I like that guy Pochettino. He seems to be a decent guy and talks sense. And I like Spurs. Of all the London clubs they seem to be the least arrogant and are generally always decent to watch. Just a shame they have to be eliminated by a League 1 club and suffer the turmoil that it involves.I think Spurs will come at us, Pochettino has stated in some many words it's the biggest game of his time so far in England, they know they can't sit on 1-0, which will hopefully stretch them and leave space for JCR/Murph/Scoogs to run at them, I think that's when we look dangerous. It's a winnable game for us
Crap
Getting to cup finals for clubs like us happen once a generation if we are lucky.
Promotion and relegations come around more often, look at the pigs. No idea which league they were in in 91 and 93 but like us they have been up and down the leagues a few times.
Give me a cup final any day.
You seriously want to be top six of the third division instead of a Wembley final?
