The problem was that Adams came in and found the club to be in a mess, and didn't know how to turn it round.

Last season we had plenty of players earning big wages for minimal effort in return, and the loan players generally were an absolute fucking disaster. Blackwell instigated it all with his policy of relying on the loan market too much, and it was too big a job for Gary Speed at the time, although in all fairness to Speed and Adams i think our relegation was set in stone all season long and most's managers wouldn't have kept us up.

I think Blackwell would have kept us up.

I'm a firm believer that ANY Manager needs the closed season to sort out a proper mess.

Blackwell SHOULD have gone after the Play-off failure.

Alternatively he SHOULD have gone at the end of the following season, but my guess is that Speed would have taken over, and then left to go to manage Wales.

Blackwell SHOULD NOT have gone after just 3 games of last season.

However, we now have a very able Manager in Danny Wilson, and you CANNOT fix history, all you can do is LEARN from it.

Tuesday, was my first match for a while and I am very positive for the future.

Automatic promotion is in our hands at the moment. I hope we don't throw it away.

Of course we will! Probably by selling our better/most influential players in the coming month. Wouldn't be United otherwise.

Someone's got to go to balance the books a bit and allow DW to wheel and deal. What's the hierarchy of sell/keep?

Of course everyone has their price and that must be factored in (e.g. £5m for Ched changes my mind!) but for me, in order of 'don't sell'

Ched
Lowton
Quinn
Maguire
Long

I'm assuming no offers for anyone else but would happily allow Monty to go to a good home.

I'm inclined to see the JTW as an opportunity rather than an obstacle.

Hard to take this thread seriously until the originator gives Super Dan a modicum of credit for putting a smile on everyone's face.

Best take it seriously then mic, I've given credit where it's been due since the season kicked off. However, I'm not about to get excited as we're exactly where we should be.

Wilson will be judged after promotion

The point of the thread was that there is optimism creeping in slowly

players come and go

Clark and Phillips were irreplaceable
till we won the next 7
Last time I looked football was still a TEAM game

MK Dons throwing away a 3-0 lead at Brentford and a 90th minute equaliser

see , all teams do it
blades 2 points per game at halfway
47 from 23
and 12 points clear of 7th and missing the play offs
good end to the year , 8 wins on the bounce
and Beattie building up his fitness

I know we've been here before, but that's a harsh benchmark. We were awful last year and for me had no right to expect promotion. I'd have taken mid table and restructuring. Getting us promoted would be a real complement to Wilson. And right now, the football's really worth watching, but it's too soon to light cigars over that.

Who's lighting cigars?

Nobody, because it's too soon....:D

I was reminding myself not to get too excited about the quality of football as it's only the last couple of games when I've been really impressed. It wasn't aimed at you or anyone else.

Wasn't sure if it was a dig or not so didn't know how to respond :)

I think the key is that we are playing organised football. I was really impressed with the approach to Notts county and today was another level.

I've said all along that we shouldn't just put our eggs into one basket and play pretty football, but it needs to be effective. Danny wilson has got us playing effective football which rips teams apart. We look like we'll score on every counter now... Until Porter pops up

More of it and lets light the cigars in may :)

Swiss, a bit of backtracking since summer will not cover the puzzling position you hold of wanting to give Alehouse more time yet only giving Danny some credit if we finsih on top 2. I'm very confused but Happy NY to you and I am so chuffed with the last few games, as we all are no doubt.

Happy new year to you.

Micky would've offered a different brand of football, but that discussion was dead and buried once he got sacked.

Wilson will prove himself through time.

The We  Hoof Brigade cling on for dear life.

Wilson has got us playing PROPER football. Don't kid yourself it's anything like the garbage served up by Quickfix Micky or the semi-pro goalie! It's light years away.

Its not about the we  hoof for me, it's about the we  winning for me. Football is a results based game and i still come away with the same sense of happiness if we had won 3-1 playing hoof or good football.

One move that was paticularly satisfying was in the first couple of minutes. Hartlepool had a corner, it was headed clear, and Doyle slapped a first time pass out wide to Flynn, who put a first time cross right in to the danger area, and Hartlepool was at full stretch to clear it. It was both direct and excellent football.

all i'd like to add is that i'm actually enjoying the games now and not just because we are winning, it is the style of play.. some of the goals we have scored lately are worthy of a much higher level.. so far we're the only team i've seen at this level who can consistently string 6 passes together.. after one of the goals against county i was watching their players immediate reaction and they were all just sat on the floor looking at each other.. they were stunned how they'd been carved apart

You should get a ban every time you post that
Its purely inflammatory and designed to wind up fellow blades

It's amusing that Pinchy has proclaimed himself the all mighty oracle of football.

No, it's embarrassing. It means that if you don't agree with one statement he makes then that must automatically mean you disagree with everything he's ever said and that you hate football and love rugby league, soap-on-a-rope and the Smurfs. Or some shit like that.

We  hoof? No. We just don't  nobheads.
