The Scale of the Task

yes he did.. other than murphy who was NOT the world beater that he has miraculously morphed into and Holt and Davies who were universally regarded as shite. so they don't count for anything.
i was all for getting rid of clough. but this guy is even worse.
murphy may not have been a world beater, but he would have won us 10-12 extra points in this league which see us in about 4th or 5th place. His replacement, Woolford has been worth zero points.

Fast forward a few months, and XYZ is the new manager:

Isn't XYZ a victim of circumstances not of his own making, but Adkin's making? XYZ inherited a bloated squad and bloated it even more by signing 5 expensive ones in against one out. It took time to assess the squad and the reality was that XYZ didn't fancy too many of the bloated numbers he inherited. From then on it gets messy as he tries to shift numbers and costs out and yet no other clubs think our players are worth anywhere near their contracted wages, so even those who do go out on loan still cost us a fortune.

The Board? Victims of circumstances of Adkin's making too, partly their own fault. They gave him great authority and autonomy to sort us out and he failed. Ever since last summer's fateful board meeting we have been left with a bloated crap squad on big money on contracts that don't go away for nothing; a number of our players also have past allegiance to Adkins. Since our summer signings there have been weeks when we could have fielded two teams, all on good wages. Until progress was made with loan departures the strength ( apparent strength) of our bench was embarrassing.

Meanwhile, we languish in the lower divisions (possibly Div. 2) and the board think a 10% reduction to watch Accrington Stanley is a generous gesture.

I don't particularly like Nigel Adkins or his methods. But the players who've decided they can't be arsed to play for him should not be allowed to win here. This bunch of wage stealers have effectively gone on strike and should not play for the club again.
Before we make a decision on Adkins, he should be afforded a little bit of dignity by giving him the satisfaction of getting rid of the wankers who've stabbed him in the back.

There are two ways of looking at everything.

What if Adkins does a Clough-type 'runner' this summer? It would be easy for Akins to be totally unreasonable and aggressive with the Board when they meet to discuss budgets and plans for the new season. Cause a row, leave the Board no alternative but to sack him, take the big bundle of cash, leave with reputation intact with all the blame on the Board, get another job with fewer pressures, game ,set and match.

Where would that leave us?

Oh so it's all Cloughs fault....what a load of garbage

If your blaming Clough for the big squad, then that's the boards fault. They sanction the signings and contracts and should have kept tabs on in coming and out goings.

Also, to let so many players contracts expire in the same year was down to the board, and even people in charge prior to Clough.

And again, who's to know how Clough would have shaped the squad over the summer. I very much doubt it would have continued as the same size, he's clearly not stupid. Hence why he currently has Burton sitting pretty.

The Board's damned for giving the manage autonomy and power and yet accused of interfering. Clough had unprecedented power and the Board realised he abused it and also failed. I reckon Clough probably engineered the equivalent of a 'runner' when it dawned on him how deep we were in the proverbial Cast your mind back to all the cash Clough spent in summer 2014 and then needed even more cash to bail him out in the JTW on five players including Brayford, Done, Adams and Coutts. no wonder they wanted him to do things differently this season. Just an opinion.

As for your other point about Clough learning from his dad in football terms. Yes, maybe so but his dad was also an alcoholic and a genius often close to crazy eccentric behaviour. Living year in year out in a households like that can affect kids in many ways and we all saw an obstinate, tetchy man who snapped back at the slightest criticisms and fell out with a number of players as well as the media when the pressure was on. For his sake I hope he keeps "sitting pretty" at Burton, time will tell, he's only been there five minutes.

No they don't, they think it's a gesture to show they feel responsible for the results this season and want to show the fans that they understand what we are going through, to show us that we are respected and valued and that they desperately want us to stay with the club.

The forums are an even bigger gesture to tell us fans more of the facts about the past couple of years and to explain what they, the Board are doing and spending to try to revive the club.

The forums are not an empty gesture at all, far from it. They are respectful and a big investment of time and money in us, the fans.

For which we should be truly thankful amen.
