His quotes may be upsetting but what is he supposed to say? The club ALWAYS sell their most saleable assets when times are hard. I dont believe for one second he held all the aces during negotioation and the fact that Warnock was able to exploit a loophole in his contract means he mustve known about its existence. Tsk, evil agents eh!

Oh, I'd be applauding with you if I hadnt given up my ST after 20 years.

Buy a ticket for the game and clap all you like. Go on. You know you want to. :)

I'm with you on not re-newing, but I will be at the first game.

I'll also be applauding Sir Warnock too.

Despite the manner of his leaving, too many happy memories of Patrick to boo him. I'm also mindful of the effect of the years of abuse we gave Pieman too.

Did Sheffield United stand up for Paddy when he made a stupid stupid mistake that damaged our club last season?

Did Paddy subsequently say when he returned that he owed his career to the club?

Did Sheffield United want him to stay?

Would Paddy have been able to potentially get a more realistic market value for the club even with his release clause?

Has the club ultimately lost money as a result of Paddy's stupidity?

The answer to all these answers is yes and therefore I will boo my little heart out with no guilt whatsoever.

Good for you.

Did Sheffield United stand up for Paddy when he made a stupid stupid mistake that damaged our club last season?
Yes

Yes

Money talks, especially when our beloved Blades are concerned. Whose to say we wouldn't have accepted £750k for him anyway.
Would Paddy have been able to potentially get a more realistic market value for the club even with his release clause?
The key word there is 'potentially'.
Has the club ultimately lost money as a result of Paddy's stupidity?.

Elaborate on losing money? I wouldn't say we have no.

How was the release clause in our interest? Surely that was put in their for Paddy's benefit?

What if Paddy had come back fat and un-fit and we were then unable to move him on?

Don't forget he's not the brightest spanner in the box [allegedly] so a sensible move in my eyes.

I would say yes we will lose money ultimately.

a) we would have finished higher last season with Paddy in the net - subjective of course.

b) in the long run, with keeper replacements required (who aren't as good as Paddy), again subjective of course, I think we'll pay more than we have recouped than the alternative of having a settled Paddy at the club.

So we couldn't have then sold him for 200k? Sorry, but a release clause is ALWAYS there to protect the player.

We could have sold him for 750k with or without the release clause. It was Paddy who required it, not the club.

How do you know it was Paddy's requirement? This deal could have been done AGES ago and with selling him in mind.

Did Paddy subsequently say when he returned that he owed his career to the club? - Yes.... and?

Did Sheffield United want him to stay? - Probably not, or we'd have made sure he DID stay.

Would Paddy have been able to potentially get a more realistic market value for the club even with his release clause? - We'd have taken £500k for him, then said 'well, he's been out a year, bad track record of personal problems etc... good deal for the club in this lean financial times etc etc'

Has the club ultimately lost money as a result of Paddy's stupidity? - Don't know. Debatable. I'd personally say No.

Thats my answers.

Please please please explain our logic in doing this?

We could have sold him for more or less or the same without the clause. There is no point at all in a club requesting a release clause in a contract. Even the Pieman wouldn't be so incompetent.

Why were we so keen to agree to it though? Probably because we knew NW in the hotseat of a moneybags club would come sniffing around him. That way at least we get £750k for him and no skin off Paddy's nose, is it?

I'm absolutely sickened by the prospect of missing the season(s) ahead but finances pretty much dictated it. "Everyone's skint you know, there's a World recession on" © Kevin McCabe ;-)

I don't understand why the clause was agreed to (maybe a question for the next forum? I expect his agent may get a mention) - surely Kenny was in no position to be making demands for the contract. He was in breach of that contract and although harsh we'd have been within our rights to terminate the contract.

Don't know the ins and out of the contract but I'd have tried to reduced his wage for the time he was suspended and then looked to have gradually built it up, like coming back fit and getting a full pre-season would increase the wage, then playing so many league games would gradually take it up to where it was, then if he performed consistently well it could have been renegiotated as per any regular contract. (Seems simple to me, but have a feeling it'd be a no go in practice!)

Me neither - which is why i think the club we're happy to insert it and make £709,000 profit on it... I'm pretty sure we were expecting a bid from NW, most likely reflecting his year out of football (ie £100k or something) - at least that way. Clause goes in, bid comes in, Paddy goes.... simples.

Because we had to protect ourselves by offering lower wages on the off chance that he did come back a shadow of the player he once was. Paddy wouldn't sign without a get out clause such as that one. We couldn't just drop Paddy's wage without his agreement.

I think this is one the most cut and dried transfers in terms of understanding the motivations of all involved.

Still, easy to continually stick the boot into the club mind.

But it never is "cut and dried" with United is it?

I have no doubt we are happy to have trousered some more cash and will get a replacement in who saves us some dosh along the way. It's not about "sticking the boot in", it's about reflecting history (obviously fighting off the cream of Europe and the Prem to keep old splay foot around is the exception to the rule).

i would,nt waste my breath on the wanker,i can only remember applauding two ex-players when they came back, and that was alan kelly and pesch, who in my mind showed and deserved respect, not like this cough syrup drinking wanker,we all know what that covers up,and warnock will be talking up his usual bullshit, blackwell just needs to show videos of kennys weaknesses and how to exploit them, then send them back down south with fuck all

would that be shoot at him and put in some crosses? I genuinely would have been looking to replace him anyway even if he hadn't got himself banned. a shadow of the player he was before he got injured at palace. I couldn't give a shit about him wanting to move on I just hope we get a decent replacement who can command his area and provide the defence with some confidence. simmonsen looked in his short spell to be the man to do this. all in all I'd be very happy if this replacement is completed as expected.

Remember when peschi came back to the lane and scored for derby. just walked off head down no celebration. Top Blade! He once stopped at the zebra crossing outside the kop in his merc to let me cross the road, I was well impressed lol.

Pesch was and is a top bloke. Paddy Kenny though? Fuck him. I don't blame Warnock for signing him, I do however think that Paddy could have shown a little bit more character and waited for a season. The season he owes us.

exactly what i meant mate,i am not bothered about kenny i think he was past his sell buy date anyway, thought his ball distribution was shite at times hoof it up into opponents box, crap. i would be happy with simmo though

i'll be applauding him.. i always applaud former players.. we simply don't know enough about the back room shenanigans to pass judgement on any player.. i don't boo the shirt either.. ever.. not even if quinn is wearing it

Never boo anyone in the shirt. Never have done.

Only usually offer a quick boo when an ex players name is read out (depending on the player obviously). This time I'll boo when Mr Kenny heads towards the Kop.

Having said that, they also have a solid keeper in Radek Cerny, so there's no guarantee yet that Paddy will even play... especially if Warnock chooses to protect him at the Lane.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread from over a month ago as we play Neil's boy's from that there London on Satdi!

Has anyone changed their opinion on Mr Kenny's return??

Has anyone changed their opinion on Mr Kenny's return??

No. My stance remains the same. I won't boo him and I won't applaude him as he deserves neither..........

I recognise the years of service he gave to the club and most of his performances were of a good standard so booing him seems extreme and I cannot bring myself to do that. I do however recognise that he turned his back on a club that had fought for his career in order to improve his probably already bulging bank balance.

His departure hasn't left the hole I thought it would initially as we now have a goalkeeper of equal (arguably better) ability so its no great loss. It was simply the principle of what he did that upset United fans and although I agree with how the masses feel about him, it just seems far more appropriate (IMO) to give him no acknowledgment at all.

I hold no sentimental feeling towards the guy anymore. To me he's just the QPR goalkeeper - end of story.
