Brayford is a liability at CB wake up

Well Burton have just "smashed" their record transfer fee for Liam Boyce from Ross County.....£500K.....they would surely have to at least double that for Brayford, we can't just let them take over the last year of his contract and let him walk for virtually nothing.

If Utd get anything over and above the value of his current contract they'll have done well. He's got 12 months left on his current deal, has had serious injury issues and Utd want him gone - there's no way they'd be able to command a significant transfer fee for him.

We do not want him and he is costing us over £500k for the final year of his contract. He apparently only wants to go to Burton, subsequently he holds the cards. He could claim injury until January and then sign for Burton having had his salary until then.
Send him on a free to Burton if they pay his salary seems the only logical compromise

I don't see the value in signing a player just because he's an upgrade on Wilson. If we want to upgrade our squad players, the way to go about it is signing someone who has potential to be first name on the team sheet, which would relegate a quality player like Wright or Basham to the bench instead.

He's clearly not good enough and it would be a waste of 350k. Why some people are happy to accept second best is beyond me.

They accept second or third best because they are Sheffield United fans

They have been brought up on a diet of squad players, numbers, shirt fillers and the dreaded versatility

I have said numerous times that a "squad player" should never be signed ever again

You sign better than what we've currently got every single time you sign somebody otherwise you don't fucking bother

The aim should be to make the better players that we have now the squad players by signing better quality, rather than just being happy with our League One team and adding squad members around it

Which is all well and good but how are you going to fund it?

Sometimes you need a good back up in case of injury, loss of form, or just to drive improvement by providing competition for places.

It doesn't cost a fortune to add two or three players of real quality to the first team

We are not challenging for a Champions League place

Quality is ultimately paid for by maintaining your place in the division or indeed challenging to go up to a higher division
A couple of thousand extra season tickets would help as well if exciting players were purchased

Every player purchased should be potentially better than what we have so that the overall squad improves

It needn't cost millions but arguing the toss over a few quid with two teams in a lower division than us about Leonard and Holmes is pathetic

If Wilder goes three at the back and they match Landell up against the big centre forward and definitely not as the spare centre half, then EEL will be more than fine, especially if he has Jake Wright (or someone like Jake Wright) as the mop-up defender talking him through the game.

Wrong we hold the cards, he's an employee. Granted we might lose out financially like with Hammond but this is Wilder we are talking about, he doesn't do player power.

Not so.

Lambert rated him, Wilder rates him.
Lambert has gone, and Wolves are signing centre halves.

The contract helps Wolves get a better fee, but won't deter our interest.
Hoping to bring him in before we go to Spain.

Depends if the new Wolves boss wants a look at EEL before deciding.

Desperation because good centre backs are very expensive. IMHO.

EEL was too slow and clumsy in L1 and we improved when he was left out - signing him now we are in the Championship would be baffling to say the least. We need a more mobile central defence to compete against the quicker opponents at this level.

All very disappointing if true. Talk about going for the cheap option.....

Whilst the potential return of EEL doesnt have me slavering at the mush in anticipation, and I would have anticipated a higher standard of player being brought in this summer (still might happen), I suppose CW is looking at EEL as being a good strong lad who is still a relative pup and who has plenty of potential.

Probably thinks he can be worked with and the rougher edges taken off so that he becomes a decent championship centre half. Tbf he has all the physical attributes, he just needs better concentration and to work on his positional play. Things which can be worked on and coached with over a period of time. However we need to have a solid defence in 6 weeks time not in 18 months time.

Wouldn't be against this signing, though I do think we still need better at centre half. Think it's key that we bring in a solid no nonsense type there who is a cut above what we have (this isnt EEL though at this point in his career).

I'm indifferent to EEL signing or not. Could do worse, should be able to do so much better.

I can't see Wilder signing a CB who fell out of favour. Especially for a fee

We all watched the coming and going of EELs best 6 months as a Pro footballer not saying he has peaked and is on the way down but the fact Wolves offered him a contract to do they could get a fee from what looked like an inevitable move to us and even more so the fact that he signed the deal would have irked CW I believe.

He's going to be looking for another Jack O Connell

Can't say I'm too excited about his return.
But he was good when he first came in, so there is something there to work on.
Also I'm sure I've seen someone on here say he was playing with an injury which might explain his dip in form.

He probably could do with an old experienced Premiership Ex England international to help him.

I've been racking my brains and looking on Twitter for someone.
Any suggestions anyone ?

Santo has not hung around getting two centre halfs in Ayeh and Bennett, but the question is are they better than EEL or are they going to provide back up for EEL and co,we dont know do we.

Regarding EEL i thought he added some steel to our back three and scored one or important goals Fleetwood (a) and Bury (h),he did make some blunders notably against Bakayoyo of Wallsall.

Can we get better than EEL on our budget,i think we can but we will surely be looking in League 1 for a standout player who could make the jump up to the Championship.

F Terry he'd be a disaster.....what about Grant Hanley from the Geordies, doubt he's good enough for Premiership but played a lot for Blackburn in the championship, big lad, experience, not too old,but probably want too much money

I've been talking about CBs to people since end of the season debating who we need and who we could get saying things like "I can't help but feel wright won't cut it in champs" and "not sure on EEL" also "Jags in between JOC and a new CB could be very good for the development of JOC", "Brayford would make a good CB" even talk of givin Semple the odd game etc etc then after a month of mates talking shite we realised we had completely forgotten about Basham...

Star reporting today we are back in for him
I really hope this is fake news, EEL was a hero until xmas but exposed as being too slow afterwards. So much for the significant investment we were promised, same old united story, going for a big cheap squad with too many borderline first teamers rather than a smaller number of better quality players who are automatic selections on the team sheet.
