When he was almost out of contract and would have been cheap then yes. For what they will want for him now then its no. There must be better value players out there.

Wilder certainly had a funny way of showing how much he rated him when he left him out of the side and seemed reluctant to bring him back in, only for injuries leading to him getting any sort of sniff whatsoever towards the end of the season.

If Wolves want any more than £500k I'd fuck the deal off completely, another loan I could perhaps put up with for cover but I think there's better options out there being discussed on other threads, Treets.
I agree, got doubts over him at Championship level.

Might be an option late in the window, if others don't come off.

i think back to roys view from when we signed him, seem to remember them being along the lines of it being a good move for him to come to us as league 1 is probably his level, i like eel but ultimately i think they were correct

That's my point Wizadry. Once he'd signed a new contract with Wolves, CW phased him out. How can you say you're committed to the Blades but then sign a contract that makes it more expensive for the Blades to sign you. It's like a girl telling you she loves you as someone else is taking her from behind.

For about 350k he'd be quite a good buy, but I wouldn't want to go over that.

A problem with signing EEL would be that in the back 3 he can only really play RCB. One of the CB signings will be to play in the middle of that 3, the other should be someone who can play RCB and at least one other position, ideally LCB. Tommie Hoban seems like a good candidate for that.

I could've used your example myself as that happens every week in my house.:(

It usually involves EEL aswell. You can now see the real reason I don't want him. :)

I reckon with that new contract Wolves would want a lot more than £350k...

Then maybe he should rot in a Wolves b-team?

I recall many Wolves supporters being underwhelmed with EEL, and as time progressed he became less and less effective for the Blades. Surely there's a common denominator in there somewhere?

He's clearly not good enough and it would be a waste of 350k. Why some people are happy to accept second best is beyond me.

If he's surplus to them might get him for that but I wouldn't want him really. Relied heavily on Jake Wright to organise him and prone to errors. Think he still has a lot to learn and whether he can is questionable. I cannot help but think there are better options out there. Another JOC from the Championship or young hungry L1 player. Am sure CW and his scouting team will have plenty of options.

Well they can look forward to paying him to sit in the reserves for 3 years then.

They'll take what they can get, ultimately. He'll probably be sold late in the transfer window when they realise they won't get the sort of fee they had in mind.

If we want him, then we can afford to bide our time. We're not desperate for him. We can keep him there as an alternative option should we not sign other targets.

Rapid response unit!

Thanks ;)

P.S- I do think/hope there's someone better out there but I guess lot comes down to character and fitting in...

yes there is a common denominator. Numerous Blades are also underwhelmed too.

He is NOT what we need under any circumstances. There is a reason why Wolves don't want him - there is a reason why at 24 he hasn't played that many games. There is a reason why CW didn't play him very often in the 2nd part of the season.

As esablade puts above - there is better.

Was he our best defender last year? Probably not

Would he be a starter next season for us? Probably not

Is he better than Wilson and more than adequate cover? Yes

He's not the best defender in the world - but played well last year for the most part and would be a decent squad player. Certainly much better than the types of players we've had a centre back until recently (Collins / maghey/ jay mceverly)

If we've got a couple of mil to drop on some new defenders great. If we are after decent cover - could do a lot worse than picking him up if the price is right imo.

No under any circumstances. Wolves played clever cunts halfway through his loan with us giving him a new deal and hoping to mug us off with him.
He wont get near the first 11 of a piss poor Wolves outfit and shouldnt get over the Sheffield City Limits. Shades of Notworthy. There is way better out there, and thats just in the car park.

Totally agree...hero for a while but the longer he was with us the more we saw he was not up to it..I thought Wilder saw it too but I might be wrong...

Will always love him as a player for the part he played last season. He was solid for the first half and actually scored some vital goals. No room for sentiment though and if we want to challenge well in the Championship we'll need better.

This thread just demonstrates the fickle world of football.

Around November time many fans were saying we can build the team around him and we should offer Wolves £500K and hope they accept. Many were convinced he'd become the future of SU.

Then in Jan and Feb he makes some bad mistakes and loses his confidence making him look a liability.
Towards the end of the season he was reintroduced into the team and was OK/ average.

I think EEL does have potential. Great in the air, can be commanding, positioning can be hit and miss and seems very slow (liable to give away a penalty) against small tricky strikers with quick feet.

If we get him at the good price then I'd be interested but im 50/50 on this.
So I'll just have to trust Wilders judgement.

That "good price" may well be another loan deal as Wolves may just want offload some of his wage cost if there are no takers on a permanent basis.

Would be interesting to know what sort of a pay rise he got at Wolves as I wouldn't expect him to have signed a new contract on similar or reduced terms

Exactly............I really do wonder what some of our fans see when watching football games down at the lane

Fickle Exactly.
I do wonder how long before Chris Wilder gets slagged off if we start badly.

Don't want him. Not good enough for championship. Steady league 1 player who is error prone. If Wilder signs him say goodbye to survival

Harsh but fair. We need to be solid at the back as scoring won't be as easy as last season. That's not to say we shouldn't go out to outplay teams, just that those teams will have far more accomplished strikers than those we faced last season.
