The pitch at BDTBL

If we had as good a playing surface as Arsenal that would be one less thing for Wilson to blame!
No Mr Wilson, nothing to do with the pitch - I could accept that argument if they tried to play football - for the last two home games they've tried bugger all!
They've been out thought, out monouvrered, out fought and out played by so-called inferior sides whose home games attract less than half our crowd added together.
Already fed up with Wilsons lame excuses - they're professional footballers - should be able to play and adapt to any kind of surface!
If you want to blame anything Mr Wilson try Lack of Heart, Commitment, Effort, Pride, Ability and Bottle - perhaps that's where the main reasons for our failings lay!

Geek time. The Bramall Lane pitch is 1.3m (4.2ft in old money) higher on the south stand touchline than it is on the John Street touchline. There's also a fall of 0.43m towards the Kop from the Bramall Lane end.

ive always wondered how they measure how high the ground is. where the hell do you put the tape measure??

It must be Williams who is to blame for the state of the pitch :D
Everything else is his fault

Having seen the blame for Yeovil's second being lain at William's feet I can only conclude that the pitch is indeed also his fault.

I remember as a kid being told that the pitch at BDTBL was the third widest in the league and it was cetainly narrowed for the Premier season (you can still just about make out the old lines). It surprised me that it wasn't re-widened once we were relegated as you would think better players would enjoy greater space.

In addition to sorting out the condition of the pitch - why not open it out again?

It's no excuse for our workrate not being where it should be but I think the pitch is causing us big problems. On the occasions when we do get our passing right, it often hits a bobble and ends up knee high when it gets to its intended recipient. It's definitely a leveller when we play sides who have less technical ability than ourselves.

We hardly got the ball out to Blackman at all yesterday and that massively reduces our attacking threat. The more he gets the ball, the more chances we create and the more shots we have. We have to get him more involved if we're to improve.

Is there a case for playing much more direct at home given the state of the pitch? We're lacking an easily identifiable style of play this term which wasn't the case last season (passing, overlapping full backs). Think that's largely down to the players we've lost (and some of those we've signed) but don't think the surface at the Lane helps. Maybe we should stick Kitson and Ironside up top, hit them early and get Blackman and Murphy trying to join in from wide areas and win the bits and pieces?

Hopefully the pitches at Notts County and Bury are in decent nick.

STOP WATERING IT.

They looked dangerous when they had players running onto passes. There's a slightly less need for accuracy when players run onto passes, as the direction of the run can be adjusted. Our players were usually standing still and facing their own goal as they received passes. Carving through teams with little movement is very difficult, certainly on the current pitch, and I'm not even sure we have the players to play like that - unlike last season.

Stop Watering it when its rained.

The back pass was from Higginbotham.

That's exactly my point, some people are saying Long was so scared of passing to Williams that he tried to take on their forward instead. Williams had nothing to do with that goal and still he gets blamed.

I hadn't been to Bramall Lane for quite a while, but I was at the match on Saturday. Maybe I went without any preconceptions. To be honest, Williams didn't strike me as worse than many of the other players. Maguire, however, was a huge disappointment after all I'd heard and read about him. I didn't think Higginbotham was anything special, either, though I think Deadbat made him MoM. DB also said that Flynn (another whipping boy) hardly had a touch, but he was one of our most lively players in the first half, albeit without much end product.

I'm not trying to excuse the performance - the whole team was to blame in my opinion, but it seems the fans always have to have someone to vent their spleen on. 'Twas ever thus.

Has it not always been like that Broomhill.
I can recall Arthur Bottom John Gannon and one or two others who always bore the wrath of the fans.
We could if we got our heads together come up with a few names.

I can recall a young fan abusing the legendary Arthur Bottom with the words: 'Alf a Teacake.

It was a gentler age....

It was in many ways a better era to be brought up as a kid, even if we had very little.
Totally different to the peer pressure kids have to cope with now.
