Old Deadbat got me thinking. He says he's never given out a 10 rating in all the time he's been doing match reports.

I reckon O'Connell should have had a 10 for his performance v Brentford last season when we won 2-0 despite only having 10 men. When I watched the game again on the classic match last week, I couldn't believe how many blocks, tackles and interceptions he made in that game, including one that literally burst the ball. He also assisted for McGoldrick's killer goal to make it 2-0.

So which Blades player past or present would you have given a 10 rating to and why?

Was a long time ago and I was pretty young but he had absolutely everything in that game.

Never going to happen.

My son is not good enough.

I watched him play for his junior school team last year and I was extremely disappointed. He scored but was weak in the tackle and selfish despite some nice touches. I gave him a 7 and I was being kind.

I can see why he's not a regular for his year 7 team this year.

All feedback is constructive isn't it?



O Connell and Clarke as 9.5 were the best 2 showings of the last two years though v Brentford and Hull I think from my reports.

The quest for 10 goes on!

Fleck was superb at City in the first half but can you give a 10 to a player who was on the losing team and did not score or assist for a goal as good as he was in midfield that day? He was brilliant for 45 mins but De Bruyne and City took over the final half hour.

Defence is of course a bit different. O' Connell was excellent v Brentford but so were the whole defence. He was the stand out but it was a real team effort.

Henderson v Norwich made one great save (the double save after he initial one) The first was not outstanding from the header as he parriedback centrally. His reaction to it was what made it. Amazing second/third part. Outside of this and a shot by Lewis straight at him not sure he made another save or had much to do. Not giving him 10 for the whole match, for one double save as great as it was.

I am a tough marker though!

It depends how you define a '10/10' performance.

Some may be inclined to say it should be a perfect performance, ie. not a single step wrong, but I wouldn't agree.
It should be the same margin of difference as a 8/10 is to a 9/10, just one notch higher.

So, perfect or almost perfect. Making one misplaced pass but scoring 3, assisting 2 and making countless tackles, interceptions and key passes could/should still be a 10, in my view.

I would class it as an oustanding and exceptionally dominant man of the match performance vs quality opposition.

It may sound strange given the quality of performance we're used to seeing these days, but it may actually be rare to see a 10 during Wilders reign given the emphasis on teamwork over individual brilliance.

Brown had a few performances that may have reached this height during 02/03, and more recently, in addition to JOC vs Brentford, Clarke's 4 vs Hull may be a contender, at least for an attacking player.

He turned into a dribbling world-beater that day - a little glimpse of the sort of quality we would see a couple of years later. BUT, can you give someone a 10 against 10-man opposition?

10 has to be an achievable figure, it's going to be rare (i was going to say as rare as a '1' but it's easy to be crap) but I'd expect to see a smattering of 10s over the seasons. (I had to look up the word 'smattering' after I used it!)

Some of you may remember Keith Waugh who had an outstanding season for us when we won Div 4, apart from the game against Colchester which was shown on MOTD! He saved quite a few penalties that season but although I was quite young, I remember him saving everything in the League Cup tie at home to Arsenal and sure he 'assisted' with Hatton's winning goal too. Unless the memory is playing tricks I think he deserved a 10 that night.
