Wednesday have no assets worth having - no ground, shit players - and I am assuming that they have a mountain of debt, given that they can't pay their players or their own fans. Plus, as others have pointed out, both sets of fans hate each other (except Palin - the splitter). Only someone with no knowledge of football would assume that if you merge two clubs with 20000 season ticket holders, you would automatically get a superclub with 40000.
Does anyone remember in the early 80's, when there were rumours of a merger with Rotherham? In reality, the Blades would have been purchasing their league position as the new club would have been playing at the Lane. Was this all just bloke in the pub talk?

No the reason I posted it was simple.

If you owned a failing football club ie Sheffield 'massve' Wednesday and your associate across the globe owned Sheffield 'one hit wonders' United dont you think with millions tied up they might actually think about it. I mean we're going down quicker than a whore in Bangkok and that lot are err slowly drowning too, from a business point of you it has to be a consideration.

I am not advocating it, I am merely saying the time is now more likely than perhaps it has been for some time, that's all.

Take you head for a wobble pal, the suggestion alone shows your not a real fan of eather, maybe follow the Steelers from now on, may be more your cup of coffee?

Given the somewhat parlous state of both Sheffield clubs right now I trust we dont see a merger proposal in the background.

Could this be a moment when both clubs seriously consider it? Could hardly have a public discussion could they.

How are we in a parlous state?
Taking the emotion out of it, the only club to benefit from a merger would be them, and they have nothing to bring to the game so why would we do it?

The most likely situation at the moment is either no Wednesday in the professional game, or a Wednesday scrapping to keep their heads above water in a dilapidated and costly stadium.
We’re probably going to be relegated to the championship with a very strong side at that level and parachute payments.
If there’s going to be one side in our city it’s considerably more likely to be us so there’s no point it even being considered.

There are probably only 3 one club cities who could clearly boast to having bigger football clubs than either us or Wendy. That would be Leeds, Newcastle and Sunland..........None of them are actually ripping the world apart are they?
The likes of Leicester, Southampton, Derby and Norwich etc are much more contentious.

It's really something that a team formed in 1991 has been more successful than both Sheffield F.C, United and Wednesday combined.

Not to give this discussion credibility, but it certainly wouldn't create a succesful one club city. It would create a 3-5 club city with; a hated merged club with only a handful of loyalist supporters doomed to failure; 2 extremely well supported phoenix clubs that would be set back decades but eventually find their way back to a similar position to now at best; plus Sheffield FC, Hallam etc who may benefit slightly from an increase in support and push on a bit.
