The need for reid

Trying not to slag him off before he signs, but I really struggle to see the sense in signing Michael Doyle. I hope the rumours are just that.

You can never have enough small, scrappy, non scoring midfielders, Hotto. I can't think of anything this squad needs more.

I've seen the lad have some good games before but I have to admit, signing Monty mark II doesnt get me carried away with excitement. We've just let one of our highest earners go from the same position and we have the opportunity to bring a decent calibre of player in (with Michael Brown available for nowt) and we go in for another combative terrier!

If Micky feels he can do a good job for us then I'll keep open minded and trust him on this one but I was hoping for something more I have to admit.

Brown has hardly set the world alight since he left.

Although I'd rather have Willo and Brown to Monty in our side.

I don't for one minute think we stand a chance getting Brown back, nor would be the best idea as you should never go back, BUT...

Since he left Brownie has been played as a scrappy midfielder who sits in front of the back four. Were we to get him back, we could give him more freedom and he'd also fulfill the necessary combative role that we're seemingly looking at Doyle to fill.

Can't afford him without direct assistance from Kevvy Mac though so let's cross him off the list as we do every transfer window.

Or him being more realistic with his wage demands.

I think this one might happen though, which is why I can't see the angle on the Doyle move.

He would have been ideal. He's strong, energetic, experienced and can pass a football. He would improve our midfield ten fold as you could play him alongside anyone and maintain the same balance as he can play box to box.

He's probably on good money at Pompey but he will know he's not going to get the same salary elsewhere at his age and we've just free'd up a load of money from Britton. Chance missed if we dont go in for him IMO.
