A really talented footballer, why can't he buy into the Wilder revolution. He has been the major disappointment this season because he just doesn't seem to have been able to impress on his occasional performances..........why,when he can be such an exciting player,it has been a wasted season.

Don't think he "can't buy into it"

Think he has trouble compensating for his size against bigger, stronger opposition. He also obviously struggles with consistency - looks like a confidence player.

I'd like to think he could eventually maintain a career at this level, but with our options in midfield, I'd assume it will be somewhere else.

Has he got the self-belief & fighting spirit to be a Coutts or a Freeman?

I don't. I think he'll spend his career being great in L1 but out of his depth in the championship, for the reasons you've said yourself. He'll still make a good living from the game playing for the bigger L1 clubs and getting the occasional promotion bonus.

You may well be right. I said "I'd like to think" rather than I think "I think" because although I do like him, looking at the standard in the championship this year, he has some way to go.

Maybe it's his attitude. He doesn't strike me as a team player either. It's a shame because I'm sure there is talent there.

I don’t think there’s much mystery about it, he’s just not a championship standard midfielder right now and we have six/seven who would deservedly be picked ahead of him. Only so much room on the bench.

He looked really good pre season had the shirt at the start of the season but never produced anything to keep it and has been in the shadow of Duffy ever since.

I think it’s telling now that’s two clubs he has come up to the Championship with looking one of the best players before hand only not to be able to make the step up.

He seems like a luxury player who doesn't have enough end product to warrant starting every week.

He'll win a league 2 player of the year before he's done I think. Just needs somebody to give him a team of his own to be the best player on

Unfortunately I think he's blown his chance and now it's a only a matter of time before he moves on. A pity and a disappointment as he regularly showed last season what a talented player he is. However, due to a combo of Duffy being outstanding this season resulting in Carruthers' opportunities being very limited and him being poor when he's been given a chance means he is 3rd choice (at best) the for number 10 role following the signing of Holmes.

He didn't particularly impress me last season tbh.

Certainly looked good in spells but also had some really disappointing displays.

It's not a lack of effort or ability in my opinion, his problem is a total lack of awareness in both attack and defence. He seems totally oblivious to what's around him in terms of his own team mates and the opposition. It's a real shame, as he has all the ability in the world, but unfortunately no football brain. I'm afraid its something you can't be taught either.

can't get in the team basically.. needs a run to get going.. CW rates him so that should be good enough

Not every good player in League one can cut it in the championship. I think he falls into that caterogry. Frustrating at times to watch and in this division you lose the ball one to many times you get punished.

I always think of Carruthers playing Wembley and being the best player at his school. He has loads of individual ability but has an immatute football brain/ intelligence.

He tends to pass when he should shoot and shoot when he should pass. Also he had this annoying habit of over doing it, keeping hold of the ball too long or trying the difficult option.

He needs to align himself better with the players around him and realise that keeping possession is vital when playing at a higher level.

Still think there’s a really good player in him though.

He might be one of them who who is a star player up to a certain level, then when he comes up against equally good players his confidence takes a hit and he struggles.

His ability with tricks and flicks is negated by the additional pace better players have. I thinks it's that simple.

Hopefully he'll have a blinder in our makeshift midfield in the cup against Leicester.

I think a lot has to do with the fact that he doesn't know his own best position.

He hasn't the temperament or discipline to be a strict CM or a defensive mid.
He hasn't the creativity or final product to be an attacking mid.
He hasn't the pace to be a winger.

Sounds harsh but as things stand, others are deservedly ahead of him in the pecking order.

I think he's a confidence player. He'll do well being the main man, but will struggle when surrounded by better players. Like a poor man's Fernando Torres
