The manic depression of a Blades forum

For all the corners and crosses into box, Millwall hardly troubled us with them and defence cleared nearly each one without issue.

It was never this bad though, surely? Everyone gets angry/down after a defeat but there's a difference between slagging players off for their performance and, say, and demanding they are sold.

It seems to have got a lot worse recently.
The internet and social media make it 10 times worse. Previously you’d have the same emotions but by the time you could discuss it you’d already kicked the cat. Now people can moan in the minute that something happens.

If we win, we're going up, if we lose then every player is crap, needs replacing and the manager is clueless.

Football fans are a manic depressive lot, but I can't ever remember the reactions being so regularly extreme as they have been since relegation.

The end of the world is nigh when the team is announced. 15 minutes into a game and x player should never wear the shirt again. By halftime the manager and Board should quit.

This Board needs some Prozac.

I wouldn't say Millwall were poor.
A poster on their forum said something like they'll match most teams but struggling against the top sides and will probably finish between 8th and 10th.
Millwall are a very limited team with a set way of playing. Their recruitment clearly reflects this, big strong players and play for set pieces.

The gaps, deficiecies, and faults with the team, were very evident yesterday, in a good performance, with two good goals, plenty of excitement first half, etc. Second half Millwall tried but couldn't even get a save from Wes.
Ndiaye and Berge both faded second half, and with it faded our creative ability and any chance of another goal.
Brewster has poor ball control but twisted and turned well with the ball and got fouled for a penalty. Fleck turns back constantly and cannot beat a man, nor does he have confidence to try.Etc.
Good performance, but way too early to predict much at all yet.
We do seem to have our fair share of fans who throw their dummies out at the drop of a hat.
Reading the match day thread yesterday, before kick off, you’d think we were in dog n duck league, and our players weren’t even good enough for that.
I don’t know what these people get out of football, if they can’t get behind their own team.
My guess is, most of them are newish Blades who have come to us over the past 5 or 6 years.
Surely the rest of us know, it’s not an easy ride being a blade, and it’s always generally one step forward snd two back. It’s that what makes us Blades, and the good bits even better.
I have no problem with people criticising on a forum, that’s one of the things it’s for. But,some of the over the top gloom, and comments about very good players, they wouldn’t be in the championship, if they weren’t, are ridiculous.
We’ll have a decent season, with some very decent players, with ups and downs along the way.
Don’t know where that’s gonna lead us to, by the end of the season, but let’s at least enjoy it, and get behind em, not slag em off mercilessly, every time we lose.

If you want passionate fans that make alot of noise at games then that's what you get, fans who live and die for the club.

If the extreme ups and downs on emotions aren't for you, can always support a team like Norwich with their plastic clapper fans who don't really care about the result and just turn up to chat with their old age pensioner friends once a week.
Ups and downs of emotions are crucial to supporting any team, but over exaggerating good or bad performances helps no one

I disagree. I'm a Blade of many years and one of McBurnie's biggest critics, simply because, as many others are finally realizing, he's shite and will never be successful at BL!
My criticism of Norwood from yesterday is justified because he is guilty of giving possession away and his penalty, albeit the keeper dived early ( because he, like me, knew he always puts it there!) was predictable.
As for general criticism of the team or individual players the issue is simple. We have seen the majority of this team perform well at a higher level. Our expectations are higher because of what we have experienced, both in getting promotion to the EPL, the first season in the EPL and the latter part of last season.
This is a team, apart from a few who have be let's say inconsistent (e.g. Stevens) of very good players who have competed at the highest level, including International level, so yes they will receive deserved criticism if they fail to produce.
I'm sure that Hecky and Wilder previously, will give them a bollocking when they underperform!

It shows how out of touch most of our fans are if they think this is only on a Blades board

The main reason I support United is because when I became a fan, Sheffield United supporters were absolutely magnificent, there was an absolutely bonkers attitude within them

They are now probably the most boring, tepid bunch of twats on the planet

'Slagging players off'

Love this. When you watch a football game, you have observations, critique and praise. It's much the same as everything in life, unless you are moronically brain dead and completely compliant, you hold an opinion.

If I were to say Oliver Norwood (for example) was a fucking arsewipe, an incompetent and a person of ill repute, I'd be guilty of personalising the issue of his play for my club. All I am bothered about is what he does, as a footballer, when wearing our kit in our games. Outside of that I don't doubt he's of sound character.

If you are willing to tolerate him booting the ball out to marked wingbacks, finding the first man with every cross (or booting it into touch), having a poor record for efforts on goal and coughing up possession and not being able to recover, then good luck to you. Your levels of belief in this player are way beyond mine, especially when there may be a better way of playing. See also John Fleck who (in my opinion) has regressed from a brief 18 month spell as a dominant figure in our strategy, regardless of the first 45 yesterday.

If you expect us to be silent and encourage this level of return you really don't understand football or the debates it generates. Criticising isn't 'slagging off'. It's 'offering opinion'. If you have a better one, let's hear it. 'Player, not ball' is a shit tactic on here more than the propensity to highlight shortcomings. It's the weapon of choice for bellends and as seen in my case, doesn't go without response.

Ha yeah I remember my grandad coming back from games grumbling useless United.

Would ask him if they lost.

Nah lad they won but played like shite! 😂
I used to go to my grandads on Sunday and he and my dad would deliver their post mortem on the previous days game….happy days

If you think we're bad try Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, ManU, Chelsea.....

Thanks. You learn something every day.

and they're off again...

All the young players are going to leave us as they haven't played for 4 days. It doesn't matter if players are match fit or not. It doesn't matter if players can't do the job of the player they're replacing. It doesn't matter if we aren't going to play a way which suits their strengths.

Get them all in you clueless unbeaten manager against 3 of the promotion favourites.

If he’s brought in players that he cant fit into his system and arent any better than whats already there, then thats sheer incompetence on his part.

Like to see how these players are going to get match fit just sat on the bench for 90 minutes.
