Whilst writing on another thread this idea popped into my head to get people debating the reasons on the field why we have had the bad spell in form and why we are suddenly on the rise in form again.

Things to ponder and aid you as you look to answer:

What to you have been the reasons why we have been on the bad dip in form? Does it come down to individual players or does it come down to the coaching staff or our “style” of football? Are we trying to do too much on the training field or the field of play?

I also would like for us to discuss how you think we could improve on things? What we need to change to bring in this style of “total” football people desire to see? Or What you personally would do if this was your chance to change things?

I myself am keen to learn the coaching style of the game and will be doing my first couple of badges next year so I find this a topic that would be interesting as a whole to discuss.

Well that's a good start. Become a gnarled old pro with your initials on your tracksuit, and you're there!

Only one word required for success (and I quote Bartman!)

BELIEVE!!!

Well in all fairness I agree believing and confidence are keys BornOnShoreham but I’m trying to dig a little deeper, I suppose that was a key element the team has lacked in recent weeks but this can often come down to various factors. For me personally I feel we have tried to do a few too many things on the field. Tried to be too fancy dan instead of doing the simple things first, like silly flicks that go astray and the mistakes we've made seem to have pulled us into the frame of hoofing it and playing hot potato football rather than keeping our composure this could set in more easily as we haven’t been able to field a regular side more recently too.

I don't think the bad spell is due to our playing style. The reason i think this is because we were doing well with it (4th/5th place) until the injuries came in (specifically Ward). And we are doing better now that players are coming back.

Our playing style may have gotten worse during the loss of form, so of course it appears that the playing style is to blame, but it would appear to get worse whatever style of football you were playing.

The thing is it takes time to change and adopt different playing styles, and barring managerial change, you can't do it midway through a season. Coaching and playing staff will settle into a style which is the ideal balance between sucessful and comfortable to play. It is in between seasons that you can make changes to the overall footballing ethos of the club, and it is here that coaching and managerial guidance makes the difference.

So, i think BOS was right when he said 'believe'. I think belief and confidence are the main factors behind success, and success breeds confidence which in turn breeds success and so on. Think about Blackwell's first half season in charge, we were great because we played with so much confidence and belief.

This is why man-management is so important.

Coaching any sport is about bringing out the best in players - look at their natural talent and develop it!
Tactics and style of play is about being able to counteract your opponents whatever style they play so a high degree of adaptability is required. I am sure that teams playing against the Blades approach it differently to when they are playing Donny Rovers.
Again being able to adapt to several styles pass and run, direct, triangles, width, pace, counterattack can be integrated into one match hopefully leaving the opposition chasing shadows due to your quick thinking and changing styles.
I believe we went on a bad run because we lost key players together but our management still persisted in playing just one style.
Different styles suit different players but unfortunately playing the same style for 90 minutes is easy to defend against once you get the hang of it! Ask Clarke Carlisle he loves playing against the Blades!!!

Not sure there's any simple answer to your question Beech - reckon it's a combination of things as Fiery has pointed out.

The points I'd pick out all stem from the injury situation -

1- Our injuries have led to an unsettled side with a number of new signings and loanees having to settle into our style quickly. This has been made more difficult as the man to man system KB uses is not used by the majority of clubs. (I think - ask Bergen - he knows about this stuff!)

2- The constant changing of sides has seen so many players used that I'm unsure that KB knows what his first choice starting 11 would be given a fully fit squad - Not sure that playing 4-4-2 and 4-5-1 helps clarify this either.

3- Whilst I'm generally not anti-KB - I do have concerns over his ability to get the best out of his players - and this becomes even harder to achieve when so many are short term loanees.

Sure there are loads of other aspects too -

I wouldn't call us back to form yet. We have only had 2 good games recently.

I didn't just rising back in form. :D

I'll post my views when i'm at home and have the time to do it properly later on..

I agree with KB. How can you gel and settle when you have so many injuries. Then you lose the most influential player at that point (ward) & then the man that holds the midfield together and fights for every ball (monty.) Its no coincidence that we've picked up since said players came back. Although i will say Williamson & Harper played well together sat'dy.

If you have to change 2 or 3 players each game it disrupts things.

Also, we played (i think) 2 games with Evans & Hendo up front when they had flu. I know full well i wouldn't go to work with flu! Well done lads!!

3rd point. Kilgallon @ Barnsley maybe showed a bit of disruption in camp?

Really disappointing to me that people think Monty holds the midfield together. He's a decent member of the squad but to think he holds the key to whether we play well or not is off the mark for me.

For me, the bad results were as a result of Blackwell failing to bring in a decent centre-half. Very little to do with Wardy's injury - plenty of teams miss players and pick up results. Walker played centre back against Coventry and it was shambolic. We got a bit lucky to go 3 up against Wendy and again looked fairly bad at the back after that (although we could have had more goals late on). In subsequent games it degenerated into a farce. We look better now but as soon as Killa or Morgan get injured/sold/suspended it will revert back to a shambles because of our pathetic manager. Oh, and Bunny doesn't help matters either.
