Asked this question on 365's Irish thread:

After a bit of info on three players if poss.

David McAllister - recently signed by Sheffield United
Seamus Conneely - again, recently signed by Sheffield United
Killian Brennan - on trial in our reserves tonight

Ta for anything you can offer.

Got the following so far in reponse:

McAllister is a class act IMO, was POTY at Shels (my team) then moved up to St. Pats in the prem division did very well there also. . Solid attacking midfielder who loves to get forward and score goal

McAllister is very good. We never really seemed to deploy him properly cause Mahon preferred two talentless holding midfielders. Lovely passer and scores a few too

Killian Brennan is also very good but I'm sure bohs/derry lads can tell you more

Killian Brennan is a very good set piece taker but apart from that I think he's a waste of space, no way would he survive in the rough and tumble of the Championship. McCallister will do well there though I'd have thought, and Conneelly is a player I like a lot, I reckon he'll be a very good full-back in a few years.

Must admit, that gave me a chuckle too.

In our present situation I dont know why we dont give these lads a run. Fair enough if Micky thinks they arent ready but the club has spent money on them and they'll be full of enthusiasm at getting the opportunity to play in England.

I dont think the physical aspect of the Championship will pose any problem for them. Although the Irish league isnt the best technically, its a tough place to play and most sides play at a good tempo as well. The number of Irish players that have come from that league and done well just goes to show there is plenty of talent over there.

TBF this may not be an issue next year...

So McAllister was forced out of his preferred position in CM in order to accomodate 'two talentless holding midfielders' despite being a 'lovely passer' and scoring goals?

Welcome to The Lane, David. There'll be no surprises for you here! Oh, by the way, could I introduce you to Lee Williamson? I think you'll find you've got a lot in common.

Whoa there, just a minute.

When it's Jordan Slew we were discussing it was:

'I dont buy into all this nonsense about "he's too raw" and "he's not ready" - rubbish.....'.

So the Irish Lads can be deemed "not ready" even though they've been playing at Irish pro level, but Jordan who has only played at a junior level (except for the odd reserve effort) can't. How's that work then?

I think our present situation is precisely the reason that we shouldn't give them a run. We just can't afford to take a gamble at the moment. Totally understandable but McAllister looked a couple of yards off the pace v Villa.

Same goes for Slew, everyone who has seen him play seems to think that he is nowhere near ready and isn't even one of the better players in the academy side.

I think we need to go with the first team squad plus (hopefully) any loan signings we can make for this season.

As we are all in agreement that most of the current first team squad are poo, here's my team for sat....you'll never win anything with kids.

--------------Long

Connelly---Lowry---Parrino---Warren

Gardos---McAllister--Tonne---Lokberg

---------Slew----Evans (Replaced by Pilkington after he's run his newly found nuts off)

Grecian is it your hobby to try and pull apart everything I post and analyse it?

The rest of my post (which you have conveniently neglected to quote) goes on to state that I would like to see the Irish lads given a chance, as I would with Slew. I do however accept that the manager will pick who he likes and if he doesnt think theyre up to it yet then it doesnt matter what the rest of us think.

I just offered an opinion on our younger players (Slew, McAllister etc.), nothing more to it than that.....ok? :)

Reading the Bradford account of the reserves match last night ( I didnt see a Blades version ) it seems the lad Brennan was quite involved in the action in a 4-0 win. We even scored from a corner of his (Not something you see very often in the first team).

According to the report, McAllister set up a goal for Philliskirk by running to the byline and cutting the ball back to him. I've completely forgotten what it's like to watch one of those....

Don`t worry, we'll soon coach that out of them...

I'm sure he didn't look as off the pace as Doyle last week. The only contribution he made was a horrendous tackle that earnt him a yellow card.

There is some irony with our reserves and acadamy thrashing everyone, but the first team haven't won this year.

Cannot see Adams giving them a chance as he hasn't even had them on the bench.
