The injuries

When we go down, we will have a wage bill that is unsustainable

Where we are concerned this means flogging off players on the cheap.

However considering there are at least 10 of our first team squad for which we wouldn't get a brass razoo, it means the few that would command a fee will be offloaded cheaply.
It's the way we roll
if the rumours are true all players salaries will be cut by 50% our wage bill wont be unsustainable yes 2 or 3 will be sold thats a gimme but at least 6 will come in nailed on for a top 6 spot

It surely can't be true. There will be a wage reduction built in but I can't imagine players signing for us on that basis. Extensions, maybe, but then it seems unlikely.

Does it make anyone wonder, when a team is winning you could play with a leg missing, when on a poor run, you cant play because youve cut your hair. Are all our injuries that bad

Hope so.
Let’s also hope there is someone in the club who does know what they are doing when it comes to players contracts.

Compared to last season the injuries in the defence are frightening... (big injuries too)

Egan
O'Connell
Basham
Rodwell
Robinson

Anyone still find it baffling that we have long term injuries in defence this season (JOC, Egan, Robinson) but last season we hardly had an injury? Even Basham is getting knocks and when is he ever injured?😂

They are quite overworked compared to prior occasions because going forwards we seem to lack an ability to retain the ball in a lot of matches.

Being called into action more is why Basham got injured, another chase back after failing to retain possession.

The other two are just one of those things. I don't believe O'Connell ever recovered from having a collision with Henderson in training prior to the Villa restart game and Egan's was the block v West Ham. Both difficult to manage against in a contact sport.

Where we have probably struggled though is that we haven't had an option to manage rotation to keep players fresh nad playing well. If fit, then they play and the back ups are either injured or coming back from injury.

I'd definitely be putting the season's failure down to injury and lack of continuity in selection.

You can talk all you want about transfers but it's not as if we offloaded anyone of any significance apart from Henderson. Those who perhaps took time to adapt or are still adapting are competing with players who 'did a job' in securing 9th last season.

Without the injuries, I don't think anyone would forecast the team finishing in 9th, going again, and then dropping 11 places.

Our strongest part of the team is the back 3. We've been without them all for a decent period and sometimes all at once. To flip this on its head, a lot was made of VVD being out but Liverpool's main attribute has been their attack. It would be like them being without Mane all season and then having to play also without Salah and Firmino for lengthy periods.

Its the lack of a pre season on top of being over cooked going into project restart
Fitness was a big factor in our success under Wilder and when we lost that we lost a big part of how we play

Plus we picked up loads of injury's

We were always going to have more injuries. Everyone has. Playing twice every week and with COVID. It was obvious before we kicked off. That's why it was criminal that the squad depth was so poor.

Egan
JOC
Robinson
Berge
Basham
Sharp
Rodwell

The updated current injury list for the weekend

If JOC doesn't do his ACL we certainly aren't in this position and I would argue we'd be where Brighton/Burnley

Though the solution was playing Ampadu at LCB and CW didn't try that until it was too late so he takes some of the blame

Truly was like a pack of cards folding after that injury

Getting increasingly worried at the lack of communication about JOC

it also seems that journos aren’t allowed to ask about him in the pre match pressers

Highly doubt jags is one of the highest paid,if it's anyone it's more likely berge them figures are so well off if it wasn't a bit sad id laugh.

Can Bogle and Baldock play after head injuries? Weren't sure the rules on concussion after a week.

Injured/doubts/not match fit

O'Connell
Sharp
Mcburnie
Rodwell
Robinson
Basham
Fleck
Berge

No one seems to be mentioning the injuries in their Wilder rants , from Jack and Fleck out at the start right upto last night it’s been one after the other.
People expect us to go to Fulham who had just turned Everton over at Goodson and rip them a new one ... but look at that back 3 last night !

No allowances seem to be made for the injury list and the wage budget disparity ... Loftus Cheek on 150k a week , Areola on 147k a week and Lookman on 100k a week !

Not having a pop at the prince as he can only spend what he has got but surely there is more contributing factors to this seasons performance than just Wilder getting it wrong in the eyes of some ?
Nearly every Club have been effected significantly by injuries since Covid, Liverpool and Leicester to name 2.
Sorry but under the present circumstances you can't use injuries as an excuse.

Paul Heckingbottom on Berge.

“I’ll include Sander in the squad. He’s had plenty of training days with us and is feeling stronger and more confident every day.”

Basham and Robinson trained this week too. So just leaves out injured..

Sharp
Mcburnie
Rodwell 😂

Sheffield United boss on possibility of Jack O'Connell needing another operation for knee injury

Sheffield United caretaker manager, Paul Heckingbottom, is hopeful Jack O’Connell won’t require further surgery for his knee injury

Despite this careful stance from the Blades, Heckingbottom still isn’t ruling out further surgery for O’Connell.

“He’s going through a similar sort of approach he went through last time, but at a slower pace,” the 43-year-old told BBC Radio Sheffield:

“If at any point there’s swelling or a reaction, it’s obviously a step back and then you keep reassessing that way.

“Hopefully with this ‘slowly slowly’ approach there won’t be any steps back and there won’t be any need to have any sort of procedures again.

Very worrying for his career if he has another setback.
