Congratulations to the ladies, pleased to see any Sheffield United team do well.

Will even go to a game myself next season, and see what the fuss is about.

One puzzler though, the games are on Sundays, so who is cooking their husbands Sunday dinners? :)

I agree about the Beeb. Plus it seems to be yet another area of football that gets coverage in the Guardian way beyond what it deserves when you consider how many people are interested in it, like the leagues in Australia and the US, compared to the crumbs the football league gets.

It’s called positive discrimation.

I used to be against it because I used to think that surely any kind of discrimination is bad.
However some people have an agenda to give minority sports an helping hand.
The motives are genuine and beneficial to the game. So I can understand why it’s done.

Women’s football is an untapped market.
I’ve watched games on television and sometimes the skill level is quite high, not far off the men’s game.
However the physical aspect (ie shooting from distance) and goalkeeping is on a par with under 15’s school boy football.
I’ve found myself enjoying parts of it with good skill levels then the next minute scratching my head at the schoolgirl defending errors
and poor play, especially by the goalies making Karius type blunders.

It’s best not to compare with the men’s game and treat it like a different sport.
In conclusion I would watch a women’s game when the weather is nice but wouldn’t pay much, probably a £5 is OK.

I do think this is the best way forward. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I think the men's and women's seasons should overlap and women should play in the summer months (even if it's evenings to tackle any heat problems). Every other close season there's a dearth of football, so why not take advantage of what is in effect a captive audience?

I don't know if it's allowed, but I'd also try to do what some of the 'left wing' non league clubs are doing too. Serving craft ale in the stands, currywurst, stuff like that. Make it more of an event than just the football (which is not nearly up to scratch yet).

A big well done to the girls.

Manchester United have been awarded a licence to join next season's Women's Championship, ending their 13-year absence from the senior women's game.
West Ham United will move straight up to the top flight - the new 11-team, full-time Women's Super League.
"Charlton, Leicester City, Lewes and Sheffield United will join Man Utd in being added to the second tier.
But current top-flight side Sunderland and second-tier Watford and Oxford are to drop out of England's top two tiers.
The news comes after a restructure of the women's leagues - which are run by the Football Association - and saw existing clubs have to re-apply for their places, before a second, open application phase"

Utb
west ham straight to the top flight?? who'd have thunk it :)

Excellent idea. Agree don’t try to compete with the men’s game.

Give women’s football it’s own identity/ image then some might even prefer the experience over the men’s game.

The powers in the women’s game shouldn’t be trying to compete with the men’s game. They should be striving to make it different and BETTER than what we have in the men’s game.

My view of women's football is the same as my view of La Liga, or Serie A: It's football, but I have no interest in it whatsoever.

It is possible not to be interested in women's football and not be a misogynist or "stuck in the 19th century".
I agree completely but some of our colleagues on here seem on face value to be less enlightened than you.
For me the first team comes first but I still allow myself to support other Blades related teams and activities. I’m not suggesting you or indeed I need to follow the women’s team uphill and down dale but I do think that we should support the club backing them as they have and wish them well. Some on here seem to think it’s a betrayal of all things sacred at S2 but I can’t see what realistic harm it does to the club or its profile.
We’ve had enough bad press why not celebrate some good for a change?

I’m generally not that bothered about women’s football but if there was a match on this weekend at Bramall Lane I WOULD definitely pay £5 to £10 to go. Just fancy seeing a game ha ha.

So an idea would be that women’s football has a Winter break and they start their season early and finish later.

That would mean during the close season when there’s no men’s football to attend and the weather is nice then it becomes more attractive to see the women’s team.

I’d take the grandkids and that’s how you entice more attendees.

Definitely. I'd take my young daughter down too as a bit of an introduction. Especially if I could enjoy a cheeky pale and currywurst in the stands!

I look forward to immediately being called a sexist when I declare number 10 has a nice ass.
