I will put this in here as it effects us all, we need this kind of thinking in england for all fans

he thinks 300 is huge , its 150 short of ours and over 800 less than fulham
That was from a long time ago. I'm sure it's more now.

Individual match tickets are a lot more

Lot's of European clubs seem to offer a very limited number of seats very cheaply. Most people don't pay that headline grabbing price. It's a bit of a myth that football is much cheaper elsewhere, in my experience.

I don't have the data, but it would be interesting to see the season ticket price for the season after a change of government. Each tribe blames the other, but the years 1980, 1998, 2010 and 2025 would maybe highlight who benefits football fans the most!

Has he shown his working, because according to my mental arithmetic, that suggests that Bayern only have 10000 season ticket holders.

Real Mallorca have a smaller number of tickets pitch level behind the goal for €45 but generally their La Liga tickets start at €70. Tickets against Barca and Real Madrid were €240.

I guess if you’re in the top leagues gate receipts are less important. As we wind down the divisions they become more important.

I remember McCabe saying in an interview that ticket money covers very little. It was used by him as a counter to the "we sell plenty of tickets so should have money available" argument. I have often wondered since then why bleed supporters dry then. Using the buyern example there is think the difference is roughly 7 mill. 7 mill on English football isn't much at all.

It's nice, but for normal championship and L1 / 2 ticket sales are important

You can blame the government for many things, I'm not sure about football prices though

Ticket sales clearly matter, clubs like Spurs or Man U wouldn’t waste billions on their stadiums if it wasn’t making them huge sums of money.

Obviously the corporate side makes a big chunk of the match day income, but the money from the normal seats is going to be significant.

Football prices are driven by economic policy. Tripling the national debt is what the last lot did since 2010. In 98 Labour took over after the ERM economic fiasco and Thatcher got in largely on the back of the Labours Union strikes and ballsups.
Each had over 10years to fix matters, but my perception is, it's worse for football at least.
Things like the PL and Covid do impact but overall it's what the chairmen thinks their markets will pay that matters.

Maybe he said it to bat away criticism, maybe there is something in it. I'd be interested to see the breakdown of tickets prices, merchandise and other match day purchases like food. Ticket sales is definitely nothing compared to tv money.

Depends also on the size of your stadium if you fill it you can charge what you want, harder to justify high prices if seats are going unsold. It varies from club to club what people are happy to pay.

Premier League clubs are going more and more down the commercial route due to Fair Play Rules. More bums on seats equals more commercial revenue not just ticket money. A number of Premier League clubs are looking at an overall 14% Stadium Capacity growth. The following all have plans to increase capacity or already have done.

Man City (expand)
Newcastle (expand or new ground)
Chelsea (expand)
Arsenal (expand)
Man United (expand or new ground)
Aston Villa (expand)
Palace (expand)
Forest (expand)
Bournemouth (expand)

Liverpool (completed expansion)
Fulham (completed expansion)
Tottenham (have new ground)
Everton (have new ground)

13 out of 20 Premier League clubs.

Also Leeds looking at major expansion.

That's the direction the "serious" big boys are going.

It seems to me that many prem clubs are just attracting football tourists and that's their main marketing strategy. Looking at Man utd do they care about actual support anymore or attracting people for the experience?

Of course by removing actual fans they deminish the experience people are visiting for. Vicious cycle of shit.

new grounds are just status symbols thats why aspiring clubs build bigger grounds, tv money dwarfs match day income

they market them differently , I became a member of real Madrid and A MADRILISTA gets up to 505 discounts and very cheap tickets for games like osusuna or gerona Spains list of season tickets (press read more)

Bundesliga average player cost is £8m.
Premier league average player is £21m.
Loads of difference especially club ownership model and financial rules.

Can't have one thing without the other.

ClubAvg gate yield per home matchAvg gate yield per fan
Arsenal£5.1m£84.66
Tottenham£4.9m£79.68
Man Utd£4.3m£58.93
Liverpool£3.1m£55.61
Man City£2.7m£50.63
Chelsea£2.4m£59.76
West Ham£1.9m£33.20
Newcastle£1.6m£30.71
Aston Villa£1.3m£34.03
Brighton£1.1m£31.54
Wolves£0.9m£31.54

Compare; Villa, West Ham and Newcastle in a stadiums built to watch some sport between pubs with Spurs and Arsenal, in stadiums built to keep you coughing up all day and all night.

It is certainly why Newcastle's owners think they need to build a new ground. It certainly isn't status.

Another thing worth noting, when clubs in Europe sell players to each other, the transfer fees are usually quite modest and in some cases cheap.

There are rare instances where you get much bigger fees (like you would see in the EPL), but these are rare, it's usually when they buy players from EPL clubs that they tend to pay the really big fees, Athletico Madrid paid a fortune (£80 + million) to Man City for Julian Alvarez.

Seems like the EPL teams could learn a thing or two from the European leagues, especially when it comes to spending money.

Do we ever attract football tourists? and if not then why?

Always think, due to ticket restrictions, we’ve made it really difficult for neutrals to attend any of our matches.
Would love to see a report how other clubs attract football tourists/ neutrals and how widespread it is in the PL.
