The Gaffer is NOT happy!

Spot on from Wilder. Absolutely superb interview. We got battered tonight and looked like a Championship side. It doesn't matter how well we've done , tonight was unacceptable from a Premier League side let alone one going for Europe.

It’s a timely reminder that we cannot let our standards slip in this league. When we work collectively well, working as a team, and mix that with the effort and discipline we know we’re capable of, we can do really well at this level. When that slips, you end up with a performance and result like tonight.

No matter how pissed off I am after a game, Wilder’s post match interviews always make me feel better.
Nothing gets past him, he refuses to accept anything sub-standard and he won’t let the rot set in or make excuses for the players.
I have every faith that we’ll bounce back from this under his leadership.

It’s exactly what I want to see. No sentimentality, it’s all about engendering the right attitude at all times, one of striving for excellence and maintaining standards in terms of having an attitude of hunger and ambition.

Regardless of whether this happens to match my view of how players should approach the game, that people would question Wilder at this point is absolutely baffling.

I can see why he is annoyed and I was as well the performance was well below par. But I honestly think some of them comments are out of order. I dont think he should be saying the players are league 1 quality and saying that people are only bothered when they want to see him about contracts. That's a load of bollocks yeah this game looked like we couldn't be bothered and couldn't get out of second gear but for 80 percent of the season they have worked there socks off and that's why we are where we are. Not sugar coating it as wilder said a below par performance but dont think we should be putting the dressing room down like that goes either one of 2 ways from here now either he gets a reaction or the dressing room could be lost. Ok maybe a bit of a over reaction as I dont think he would loose the dressing room as such but think he has over stepped the mark there.

Has he balls!! He’s got that winning mentality and this is exactly what was needed after such a lacklustre performance. The boys needed a kick up the arse after tonight

I know I understand that but pundits and the manager you work for is a totally different kettle of fish for me. I understand trying to get a reaction out of the players and I hope it works like i said i can see his frustration as i think we all are right now that's not whats in question i just think its overly harsh to say they are league 1 quality. But I am not a football manager for a reason so let's hope wilder has this right and gets them firing for the last games of the season.

He doesn't actually say "League 1 quality" though. He says, "League 1/Championship players playing in the Premier League..." There is a difference.

Everyone moaned about managers in the past not telling it like it is, or plucking positives out of an abysmal performance. We really can't complain about a manager who tells it like it is, warts an all. Unless these players are daft, they know the best chance they have of having a successful PL career is at SUFC under his management - so there's little chance of him losing the dressing room.

I really feel sorry for the players after some harsh words from the manager NOT !!!!
They deserved a bollocking after that performance it was unacceptable
Remember Wilder slagging Hendo off in public, Wilder got questioned over his treatment of Hendo
What did Hendo do went on a run of keeping clean sheets

One of Wilder’s greatest strengths is man management, and nobody knows his squad of players better than he does. That won’t have been pure emotion, he will have thought about how he wants to address the performance both publicly and in private. He expects a positive reaction. Anyone in that dressing room who isn’t desperate to get back out on Monday to prove their worth to this club and the doubters wrong will not be able to cope with the pressure of playing for Chris Wilder at this level for much longer. And that’s fine.

One positive from the performances: Egan and O’Connell demonstrated very well that they are hopeless in a back four, which will hopefully put off some suitors in the transfer window!

In terms of achieving footballing and technical excellence, he’s almost the opposite to warnock with his mentality, b0ll0(ks to all that ‘well over the season I couldn’t really have asked for more of them, they were up against some players who earned more than our entire team’ and all that plucky underdog horse5hit designed to take the pressure off the manager.

Wilders possibly one of the very best managers in the game and certainly the best we’ll ever have at the Lane.

I expect a response from the team v Everton. Wilder understandably unhappy. Tonight, for me, was the worst performance of the season because we just looked like we were strolling around, and that is the first time I've said that this season. I know they are bothered, but it looked like a friendly or testimonial performance tonight. Saying that, performances like that are a rarity. I'm confident w'll do much better in the last two games and end the season on a high. Maybe we just went in expecting to win tonight given the form of the two teams.

This is how I interpreted it too.
What he's actually saying is ! Playing there careers in the lower divisions means you have to put it in every game to stand any chance of success ,lower your standards and we will get beat.He keeps reminding the players of this and as he was indirectly saying those that cant will be replaced he cant show any sentimentality

Colin would have been blaming the ref too.

Unsure on the “they’re league one / championship players” comment but I have to have faith in Wilder on that one. He’s the master in man management and has led us here so I’ll go with him.

Otherwise completely spot on. The thing that really got me was just how little the subs changed things. I can sort of excuse some of Fleck’s rustiness, but Mousset should have caused their defenders all sorts of problems and Lundstram should’ve come out with a point to prove. Both were among the worst players on the pitch for 45 minutes. With Lundstram it was liking watching that player who was trying to replace Paul Coutts again. Drifting across the middle, making sideways passes, occasionally drilling it. Awful.

Its not the first time hes called them league one players after a poor performance this year

Whilst the players were poor, Rodgers did outthink Wilder tactically like in the reverse fixture in the same way that Bruce did.
I hope to god you're not referring to the home fixture against Newcastle?

I think its fantastic management. If i were playing for him id play like a demon the next game. If any players get upset with that then theyre melts.

He isn’t far wrong too many poor decisions, too many individual performances and barely put a glove on Leicester.

I think he is getting fucked off with the contract situation with some. Just going to assume that’s Lunny.
He’s off to Everton. I mentioned it weeks ago now.

Am I ITK?

No.

But just wait and see and you may think I am.

I am starting to think that they are welcome to him, at the right price.

Don't get me wrong, he was fantastic in the first half of the season, and probably our best player for a short time. But he looks disinterested now, and Berge is gradually growing into the role anyway.

Maybe best to cash in, while we still can.

Totally factually correct, they were all exactly that.
My two penneth.

Overly harsh on them in the public domain. Crossed a line tonight did our Chris and let his emotions overrule his professionalism. A rare thing. Probably realises Europe looking a bit beyond us right now and is rightly a bit miffed about it.He will reflect on that in the morning with some regret.

Behind closed doors, absolutely fine. Give em the hairdryer if you must.

UTB
Why? Their performance is in the public domain and they embarrassed him in the public domain.
This isn’t the first time he’s done this, and he either believes it’ll have more effect public tearing a strip or he doesn’t give a fuck either way.
I’m right with him. We don’t survive in this league with this talent if they're easily upset or sensitive flowers. The only question they need to ask themselves if it was justified, and given the performances I don’t think anyone can disagree.

Honestly like how brutal he was but would prefer him to have criiticised himself as well, surely he can't think he did everything right in the game and think he did miss a big trick not starting moose.
