I'd say its more because he knows the referee will never change his mind on it.

it was a silly slide in looking worse because it was so slippery but he hardly even touched him...a split second pause while the cheating twonk registers in his mind he's gonna bring his heels up and dive and kaboom, the ref got suckered in by it!!

Yes, because it was Manchester United at Old Trafford - he touched him....nothing more & that's not a foul by the laws of the game.
Shockingly bad refeering; by the time the penalty was taken, millions of us had already seen that it wasn't a foul & yet the Ref. isn't allowed to see the replay.

And that rule is either imposed by FIFA or the FA so there is no chance that its corrupt then is there?

if you see the replay of it from the camera positioned where you get Long's perspective of it, its so blatant cheating..i would've been screaming in the refs face about him needing to see a replay of that before anything carries on!!

Can't understand how anyone can suggest that wasn't a penalty? Referee didn't buy anything it was a foul and penalty kick. The Man Utd player didn't do anything wrong either.

Agree, the ref. didn't allow for the conditions and the slide couldn't be arrested. I'm surprised the ref. didn't send Hammond off - Rooney might have missed the pen. and apart from the inevitable re-take, United would have been down to 10 men for the extra, extra time he'd have added on.

Why anybody wants to get into the PL must be mad. It's as bent as Nigeria.

Its a dive but he's had contact too and you can't do that and expect someone not to dive. As others have said what was Hammond doing making such a rash challenge. I'd have expected that from a younger lad but of all players not Hammond. I'm mainly bothered because we've lost out on another pay day there at the Lane and obviously we could have won it. We just need to take the form from this game into the next one.
