So, despite Wilders comments about "a team of internationals doesn't work" we have signed 2 forriners....welcome to BDTBL Christian Nwachukwu & Jefferson Caceres..... so is this the end of #brexitblades as we know it?

It appears, maybe, we have gone above Wilders head to sign these two, based on a Football Manager type of strategy with the owners sanctioning the moves based on "data"....will they even feature in the match day squad? are they "ones for the future" who will mainly be involved with the U23's or are they investments that may develop into mega money sales in the future?

Have we unearthed the next Riyad Mahrez/N'Golo Kante?

Would love us to have found a new cult player in the Vas Borbokis type of mould....but of course, they could just be another Richario or Retsos.....

We will see but either way, these types of signings do get the pulse racing!

We don't have a team of internationals, we have a mostly domestic squad with a few internationals. Wilder has always appeared fine with this.

Yeah. CW's pulse.

They could be one of many sign loads and hope a couple turn out decent type. Chelsea used to sign up all the good young kids in London and loan out about 15+ of them a season!

Seems Chris is onboard with it

On the signing, boss Chris Wilder commented: "With the collaborative way we work with regards signings, the options available to the club under the new ownership allows us to cast our net further afield.

"I've spoken previously about how we are looking to be more data driven with some of our targets, and we have explored the use of this to find players which were previously not on our radar.

"Jefferson has been identified using this strategy, he's a young lad who we're keen to develop."

I think being slightly older we can expect Jeff to get somd minutes off the bench and CN to be part of the development squad

When did Wilder say a team of internationals doesn't work? Someone best tell Liverpool and City.

I watched some of Botev Plovdivs early season games on TV as it starts in the middle of summer, saw the Nigerians and sat up a bit as they were pacey, direct and caused problems for their opposition, googled them straight away as I never saw them last season, they also did well in the early euro games and away at Panathinaikos, and were a big reason why Botev made a great start to the season.
Thing is,BG football is lower L1/L2 standard,so we have invested in raw talent that hopefully has more in the locker to be developed, but it is a very big step up even to top end Championship, hopefully the lads have improvement in them and can challenge for a first team place at Championship level, whatever season that may be.

He said it didn't think it would work "here" as in at SUFC in a recent presser.

I disagree, but understand the point he's trying to make and don't mind it.

Wilder never said foreign players, he said internationals, I obviously don't know but I'm amusing he meant from a keeping a group together perspective, not having too many away on international duty on a regular basis

Surely a comment like that has a lot of hidden context. When it was said, the make up and size of the squad, the ability to recruit etc. I know Wilder has a history of recruiting British players, but he's largely operated in an environment where its been necessary to an extent.

Personally I won't be taking old statements rehashed out of context to define what Wilder thinks about signing foreign players.

It wasn't an old statement (a week ago?) and it wasn't put of context. I agree nothing should really be made of it though.

He meant something like, "at SUFC, we have a certain culture in the club and amongst the fans that wouldn't gel well with a team FULL of international players". Nowt to worry about.

We've signed two young players who will be on cloud nine right now. They must have something about them or they wouldn't be here but hey, don't let the happiness of these two prospects stop you coming out with the same tired old shit that you do every time we take a punt.

Fuck me, what if they do need to communicate through Google translate, it's what it was created for. Must be great to be a young player at a big club a million miles from home and having a whole thread created to rip the piss out of you before anybody's seen you play.

This is going to be one hell of a culture shock for them. The language, the weather, the lifestyle, living away, the style, the food, the fans...
I honestly hope it works out, but Wilder has always said he doesn't have time for people to take 10 games plus to bed in. People laugh that he wants Brits, they moan at the reasoning, but it makes complete sense to me.
If this comes off though, maybe it'll change Wilder's views long term.
