Has a non christian country ever won the world cup?
Yes, England in 1966.
So the cross on the flag of st George is for our love of noughts and crosses?
Only a third of the UK population believe in God

Not according to the 2011 Census, where approximately 25% of respondents stated "No Religion" (compared to 59.8% who responded with Christianity).

Indeed. But for a lot of people being a "Christian" seems compatible with non-belief in God.
There was a lot of controversy about the census question. The Secular Society proposed there should be a question "Do you have a religion yes/no?", with a following question for those who answered "yes" of a list of religions to choose from.
The new Labour government (being, as it was, very hot on "faith communities") said that they couldn't do that as there "wasn't room" on the form and just had a question "what is your religion?" with "Christianity" as the first option and "no religion" as the last.
Of course asking a question which implies that one does have a religion and putting Christianity as the first option tends to skew the "Christianity" answers. If the question had been as suggested by the Secular Soceity I would lay a lot of money that Christians would be less than 50%.
In any event (as shown by the fact that a sizable proportion of "Christians" do not believe in God, a lot of them are nothing more than cultural Christians - "well, I'm British, I'm not a Muslim, I a have never been inside a Church (except for weddings and funerals) and I don't have the first idea about Christian dogma and don't think about religion from one minute to the next, but I do have a vague notion of some sort of higher power, so I suppose I am a Christian".
