Listened to Jim's spin on the radio.

Feel sorry for him, as his job is clearly to placate an angry fan base who have bought into the nonsense talked by these clowns when they came in.

One thing that *really* bugs me is him talking about our high expectation. Or when any of our fans play the 'high expectation' card used to bash those complaining.

If ever, anyone who supports, owns, works for, or is a spokesman for this club and thinks mounting a credible promotion campaign in the third f*****g division is too much of an expectation, then we may as well all pack up and go home.

Look around you, check your history, and stop spouting this nonsense.

Not heard the interview, but personally, I'd rather they continue to acknowledge that people have high expectations.

The opposite of that is to ignore it or assume that everyone's happy where we are.

I'm not suggesting that our immediate expectations are all that high in terms of overall achievement or that we shouldn't expect more by the way, clearly we're not where we'd all want to be as a "worst case" :)

I think that's my main issue. I don't see promotion from this division as high expectation.

The one above maybe. But division 3?

Did they do ANY research on us before taking over?

My fundamental expectation is that the players look like they give a shit about playing for SUFC. With a few individual exceptions, I think we've lost that in the last 6 or 7 years.

I know there's a lot more to take into account nowadays, but what other club has rotted in this division as long as we have while pulling in average gates of 18-20,000?
Top 10 of the championship, occasionally threatening the playoffs would do me fine.

From 1990 to 2010, there was only one season 1999-2000 where we slipped below a finishing position of half way in the Championship.

Based on that promotion from this Division should be the absolute bare minimum expectation we have in the short term every single season, and every single season we have failed in that objective......

When I was 18 I wanted to have sexual intercourse with Louise Weener, unfortunately I had to downgrade my expectations.

In footballing terms we are currently trying to fuck Susan Boyle and being told we're lucky to get her.

When i was 20 i wanted to have sexual intercourse with Kelly Brook, but like you i had to downgrade my expectations to that chalet monster at Butlins.

I had the same sense of feeling distinctly underwhelmed as i have over the 5/6 season of watching this shower of shit.

Ironically it's the expectation that the owners have consistently talked up... Even in the comments on Jims JTW bullshit he has talked about getting into the PL!

It's the management and owners that talked of being in talks with 6 figure signings... It's the same people that keep wanting to bring in players from two divisions above. It's the same owners that paid £500k for Sharp and £2m for Brayford.

The same owners talked up (before Spurs home last season) that we want to be in cup semis every season, selling out week in week out

It's the exact same owners who've not delivered either managers or players to achieve the targets that they set 3 seasons back

From where I'm sat, the expectation has been piled high and fueled by a Saudi, a Turk and a yank... We've just sat here and watched as they failed to light the fucker in the pouring rain!

Oh, are you talking when I mistakenly thought we'd signed a player?

What an outrageously unacceptable sin it was.

Damn right!

I've always wanted to shag Kelly Brook, and I've always settled for a good wank. Real life and football have never stopped mirroring each other in my world. :)

Funny thing is, I thought promotion last season was THEIR expectations, as it was this year. Nonsense.

This is spot on.

If the word from the higher ups had been "Adkins is a long term appointment, we want him to review oversized squad, and start building again" then where we are now would be a fair expectation.

What I can't get on board with is being told that there's plenty of sweet cash for players, the number one aim is promotion, and yet it's a good thing that we haven't signed anyone, and we ought to consider paying off Higdon and releasing a couple of youth players a good JTW.

Either we're misinformed and we DON'T have the means for promotion or we DO have everything required for promotion and someone somewhere in the off-pitch staff is repeatedly fucking it all up. What can't be true is that everything is wonderful and it's a total mystery as to why we aren't even in a play-off spot.

You'll hardly ever find a leader of an business admitting to their customers that the product is crap. And the truth is we do need to offload a vast number of poor players, but can't do much of that until summer. In the meantime we have a chance of the playoffs using a staff the majority of whom won't be here beyond May. Phipps simply cannot state that awful truth in his position as leader of that staff.

Anyway, the key point is that it's all come about, not because of the JTW, but because of the failure to do enough last summer. Adkins has since underperformed slightly in his role too. History will tell us what the thinking was when the club's plans were put in place last May. Either Adkins made a horribly poor assessment of his players, or the club simply couldn't afford to pay off Collins et al and replace them in one window. I suspect a mixture of both.

I'm quite glad we haven't signed anybody.
What would we get ?

A versatile winger who will have to fill in at full back
A versatile midfielder who if small will be put on the wing.
A versatile midfielder who if big will be asked to fill in at Centre Half
A versatile Striker who will be put on the other wing.
Another versatile winger who will be asked to play in the middle.
A versatile full back who will have to fill in at Centre Half.
Another versatile midfielder who will be pushed up front

Versatility = crap in all positions but cheaper than a specialist in a certain position

Here's looking forward to playing Northampton, Plymouth and Oxford next season. Should be a minimum of 12 points for us. Oh and then there's Bolton. Charlton and Bristol City for another half dozen.

That's my revised expectation.

At the very, very least we should be a Championship club. I'd be happy with yo-yoing between Prem and Champ!

Adkins has been as big a disappointment as Clough - except he isn't as dynamic FFS.

My expectation for SUFC is to be an established top tier team, with the occasional trip to Wembley for a proper Cup Final (before any funnies, yes, Sheffield United being one of the teams contesting the final), even occasionally winning the bloody thing and fairly regular trips into Europe (again before any funnies, not for a holiday or a tin pot pre-season tour).

For far too long this club has punched well below their weight, more often than not thanks to a piss-poor board whose height of ambition seems to be to sell the latest piece of family silver. Unacceptable in my book and always will be.
