Horses for Courses Pinchy. Incidentally, another Don Quixote moment there. Upon what basis do you divine from my post that I suffer from parochial sentimentality? There were 5 words. "You could actually be wrong". That means that I have not expressed an opinion nor put forward a position whereby anyone could interpret what I may or may not think as being parochial nor sentimental. You could actually be wrong and we will indeed see whether you are or not.

I like Jake Wright. I've never said any different. But being a Bladey Cult Hero cuts no ice with me. I spent ten excruciating years knowing Montgomery was a training cone whilst all around me were seeing the fucking useless article as some sort of non-footballing legend. Then they have the cheek to go on about how crap Hammond was! Embarrassing.

Tufty has brought the impressive Richard Stearman in to lead his back line. That's what will happen. Remember what I said about Runaround Done, to much derision? What's he up to these days?
 
I have no problem with Stearman,he looks to be a very good championship defender.I have no great affinity to Wright,he hasn't been here long enough to receive any special reverance from me,i've been a blade for 58 years and don't give praise easily.However,even though Stearman will play ahead of Wright,i honestly don't think that there is a 'fag paper' between them in terms of ability.

I'd have thought the Done example proves the point about Wright. Wilder was willing to keep Done in the side (against your very, repeatedly, expressed wishes) week on week while he earned the right to keep the shirt. When his performances dipped, he was moved out. Wilder, as you say, isn't sentimental – he will go for the footballing decision that makes sense. If Wright's form continues, Stearman will likely have to wait until Wright either dips in form or is otherwise unavailable, as will be the case with Blackman when Moore returns to fitness. He will not bring them straight in to prove a point about his initial judgment on his preferences.
 
Wilder never drops a player because someone (potentialy better) comes back from injury, you earn the right to play here.

Wright will be in the first team for a good while unless of injury, suspention or an unsual dip in form. It's more likely that Bash will have a dip on last season's viewing than Wright and Stearman will replace him in my opinion.

Defense is by far the most competitive area in the squad at the moment. 10 players all with simlar ability (well never seen Heneghan or CCV play yet) and any combo could do a job.
 
Pinchy, as you seem to know Wilder so much, I'm surprised at your view here.

Wilder has mentioned on many occasions, players have to earn the right to get into the team. Stearman has been out whilst we've won 3 on the spin and performing very well and defending very well.

There is absolutely, categorically no way on earth that Stearman replaces right when fit.

I'm willing to put a charity bet on it.
 
All this is nit picking over nothing , our team is developing as that , a team ,
Chris is trying to bring 2 players in for each position and forcing the players to perform knowing
the hook is waiting for them , don't perform as to how the fans ( ie me and these other 25 k )
fuckers demand , and theirs no sentimentality your out ,
We don't mind losing as Blades fans , once you leave it all on the pitch ,
we will know the better team won ,
we ain't deluded like the pigs , we ain't massive .
It feels good to be a Blade today .
 
This shouldn't become a Wright v Stearman debate. One is injured for a start. I just love Wright's invincible record. What's not to like?

Couple that with us being the best club he's played for and at the highest standard, his story is what cult heroes are made from. Can we just appreciate it for what it is without having to pick holes in it or draw comparisons with others?

A bit pathetic that.

To link a limited trier who gave his all on the pitch, to a past it wage thief does you no credit. Sometimes your obsessions with Monty and Done, cloud your judgement. In your efforts to get the inevitable 'cone' and 'runaround' digs in, you miss the bigger picture.

When Stearman gets fit he will come on for Wright for the last 15 or 20. This will give Tufty the chance to see and use both in real action and preserve Wright's fitness and energy. If things continue to go well for both, Wright will keep the starting shirt though.

careers and previous reputations mean nothing to Wilder

6 players for 3 positions. Now, I accept that it's good to have two players competing for every position, but it's starting to feel like we have almost too many players for central defence.
 
We've got a "second string" back three that on paper could be almost as good as our starting one.
 
Jake Wright is a very intelligent centre-back. His positional play and reading of the game is the best of any defender I’ve seen at the Lane. Stearman on the other hand has looked out of position a few times and nervous on the ball. He also organised JOC and Bash in a way Stears doesn’t.

I think until form suggests otherwise, Wright has to stay in!
 
There is absolutely nothing I've seen from Stearman that makes me think he's better than Wright. He's a few inches taller and that's it. Wolves fans reviews weren't exactly sparkling.

Championship experience is irrelevant clearly considering we've won the last 3 with Wright at the back.

Gabby Agbonlahor has had 7 more seasons than Jamie Vardy in the Prem, on this evidence Pinchy would rather have him up top than Vardy. Priceless and such a shit argument.

I think Henegan is the cliche 'work in progress' judging on what Wilder said when we signed him. Dont expect we'll see him pushing for a start for the next few months at least, he was a non leaguer season before last.

No bladey bladeness from me, we've simply looked more solid defensively when Wright has played instead of stearman in the games I've seen.

Stearman may be fantastic but I've seen him in 3 games and his distribution was off at times in those games. He may well come back in but United have just looked a better side with Wright in the team for over a season now.
 
Really rate Stearman as a signing, extensive Championship as well as some Prem experience. Has a bit of pace, is a good footballer (can play at RB) and is a leader to add to our list of captains.
Why anyone thinks he will just replace JW though is beyond me given what Jake brings our exemplary back 3, not the way Wilder works.

Oh, aye: "Old Runaround" - the one you posted about on the (possible signing of) Billy Sharp thread on June 3, 2015, as follows:

"Sharp is not a target man. He's not even a goalscorer these days...We need a big mobile leader of the line to partner Matt Done who is likely to score prolifically next season. That's not Shatp is it?...but he's a Blade so that cures all ills...Dear me, I do despair.....deep, deep despair...."

It's inevitable that people who express opinions on forums like this are wrong from time to time but you'd like to think that those who do get things wrong might develop a bit of humility in their future posts. Not so, it would appear.

Stearman may come back in for Wright when he's fit again but it's ridiculous to suggest that it's inevitable.
