I may have missed something this week but has Clough said why he's not used the loan window to bring in a Centre Back? I assumed when Collins was loaned out it was to free up wages. If not, it's probably Clough's most perverse decision yet.

I can't imagine him spending so much on Brayford and then being happy playing him there. Logically, we must be struggling or breached FFP already (given our struggles with keeping within it previously), so the only explanation I can think of is that the Board have refused to give him any more money.

He has said he has been turned down by clubs for a few centre half targets although thus should have been sorted months ago. I hope it means Kennedy comes straight back when fit as I have been impressed with him this season in particular at QPR And Bristol.

As for Collins, it looks like he had a poor debut for Port Vale yesterday but that could be down to lack of match practice.

I think it's Clough's new found tactical genius of wanting to play square peg players in round holes, whilst at the same time sacking specialist cb's for fun that rankles with me.

Whilst we can all see how well Basham has adapted, we are conceding goals. It was only last week Clough was saying that with players coming back from injury he will probably go with what he's got

Yesterdays cb pairing to me and it's only an opinion, doesn't look solid at all, in fact I'd say far from it and the mighty Crewe demonstrated that yesterday particularly during the first half when they could have gone in at half time with a greater lead than just the one goal

Brayford should be playing in his specialist position. Someone else should be playing at cb imo

Even if we get back McEveley and Tel, I'm still not sure we have enough. Good luck to Tel of course, but there's always the doubt that another injury may just be around the corner. Then there's Jay McEveley and at present, he doesn't fill me with the greatest of confidence

Fulwood Blade was warning about the central defence problem months ago at a time when most of us were more concerned about the lack of strikers.

Quite remarkable and serious that Clough identified it as a priority area when he brought in McCarthy months ago and yet when that failed he let the situation slide, nor did he make up and forgive Collins when that would have helped. His reluctant choice of Kennedy and his subsequent performances helped him out there for a while but frankly he has been negligent leaving us so exposed. Bear in mind we started our "promotion season" with McGahey and Alcock as the pairing for the first two matches.

Thought provoking mmmmmmmmm?

Centre backs? Oh I thought we didn't need any.

Or it could be that he is a poor defender who always looked like an accident waiting to happen.
I was talking to an ex player last night ,now a coach ,who told me other players find Collins difficult to play with ,he has poor positional discipline and often plays off the cuff leaving team mates in the mire.

It's been a problem since our starting centre backs have been a centre mid and a left back (as pointed out by clough himself) and now we have a right back playing left centre back..... Even though basher has done well I don't mind doing it in emergency situations for a game or two but to be that for the majority of the season is never going to go well.

Fine, but identify and replace with a better one, then drum him out, not the other bloody way round!

I can't like the guy given any time a goal was conceded he'd berate his CB partner, even if he was much junior than him and it wasn't his fault.

We cannot hang our hats on players like Collins or even JCR . They are not just good enough to replace , not just good enough players already in the team. The not just good enough players , is because we do not play to our strengths . Perhaps Clough should read this forum , weed out the weed from the chaff , and he may learn summat were he is going wrong . Are the coaching staff just yes men . Kennedy is just a young lad , although a very good player , we cannot put the pressure on him.

UTB
