Was it James Bord who enquired about making Sheffield a one club city, via a merger?
I'm completely against that, the thought of a manufacturered, merged club, makes me feel sick. I don't think I would go anymore or even be interested.
Has anyone considered that he's a poker player and despite some of the shit decisions that he's made with us, he still had/has ties to our owners.
Could this be the ultimate bluff?
Make an offer, stall, make promises, encourage poor decisions to an increasgly desperate club. Play the system so that you have to be given priority over your Mike Ashley's, they move on.
Run the clock down, pull out when there is nothing left.
Pigs get liquidated, lose their golden share and disappear.
Sheffield is then a one club city, Sheffield United, a real club with real fans and history. Not a manufactured, merged, plastic, franchise like, hated abomination!
I wouldn't even wish this on the piggies, however, American business folks are not necessarily known for their fair play and lack of aggression in the deal.
The ultimate hostile takeover?
If you had no morals and were purely finance and result driven, it would be an incredibly cheap way of owning the one club, in a one club city. All without losing history or the new, fake club, stigma.
Just a thought.

A briliant conspiracy theory, and it's only a shame it didn't originate on Porktalk.

Sadly, I suspect the administrator (a switched on pig, if that's not an oxymoron), will have insisited on a bit more finanancial committment than you imply, so Bord would end up well out of pocket. Even then, they'd go back to Ashley, and then the pigs could cheer how he'd been thair favoured option all along.

Would Bord end up out of pocket though?

People get themselves in such a twist over merger bollocks.

There isn't a single example of two Football League clubs merging and it would never, ever, ever happen.

I know they do, I'm not one of them, I think it would be a huge failure.

Eliminating the competition though, leaving yourself as the owner of the one club, in a one club city.

It's not beyond comprehension that an unscrupulous businessman might see the opportunity and think it was worth a few million quid!

I'm sure unscrupulous businessmen have had that thought in the past - Maxwell - but it still didn't happen and it's much harder today not least due to the rules on ownership re having stakes in multiple clubs.
