Exactly!!

Jesus Fucking Christ, of all the objections this has to be the absolute fucking dumbest.
I suppose the argument is it gives it a veneer of acceptability.

Personally I find it it hard to get as worked up about crypto compared to if we’d had a gambling company sponsor us and I’m probably being a hypocrite for doing so.

Crypto is an absolute scam but my perception is that people who get involved are 2 bob millionaires who think they’ve hit on a way to get rich quick despite the evidence and it’s come back to bite them on the arse. Maybe I’m wrong, I probably am

Gambling is different to me as its an addiction similar to drink or drugs that can affect anybody who’s brain is wired a certain way. As a pastime there isn’t inherently wrong with it but the companies pursue a business model to turn people into problem gamblers and rinse them for everything they have.

Is that all you are concerned about, having the piss taken out of you or the club over a sponsor logo? For gods sake grow up.
I do worry about some of our fans - ā€œwhat will the Wednesday fans say!!!ā€ Who the fuck cares?

Some of our fans would be up in arms if we signed a 40 goal a season striker because his name was Keith Bacon or Terry Ham.

At least betting companies are regulated.
Yes. It's fucking great news that betting companies are regulated, otherwise they'd be like vampires in communities across the land, enticing and seducing victims with the promise of actual hope and rainbows 🌈, rather than misery and despair, before chewing down on their necks and leaving corpses decomposing in the gutter and moving on to the next victims.

Thank fuck that never happens.

See also the regulated water companies. Without regulation I would surely be in a position where I have no choice to switch supplier, pay whatever I'm told I have to, whilst a monopoly pays out millions in dividends and fills the rivers with shit.....

On what basis would we be fined by the FCA? We’re being sponsored by a company, we’re not providing financial advice or an investment recommendation.
Because we are promoting it on our shirts providing a legitimate face. Lots of celebrities have been caught out and lost loads by promoting such schemes. One saving grace, perhaps, is that we are admitting that we are being paid to promote but we need to disclose the exact amount and whenever we promote we need a disclaimer advising that the market is unregulated which could lead to any investor losing their money.

Betting companies = Bad
Crypto scams = Even Worse

Clearly it's terrible. So terrible it's funny. Can't get worked up about a logo, just have to laugh at it.

I'm miles out of my depth here, but as I understand it, the initial motivation for crypto was the exact opposite of this. Governements/Those in power debase currency and force inflation*. The further you are down the chain/ladder from the money supply the more your labour is devalued. You have to work more and more for less and less.

Implemented as the initial idealists envisaged (and plenty still do) crypto puts a stop to all this.

Practically though it became, recently at least, just another empty, transparent, transient get-rich-quick scheme, and that might be all it ever is.

Or, over time, it might be a sound long-term investment which retains its value.

I wish I knew.

*You may need to Google the details of this, and I can't be held responsible for the desperate nonsense you might have to sift through :-)

Not at all definitive, but illustrating that superficially at least there is a sound(?) ideological basis argument for crypto - and against inflation.

I remember hearing a similar idea about crypto initially being more egalitarian than the current financial system on the podcast about the woman who ran off with the OneCoin money. I think the idea was that it couldn’t be manipulated by the block chain or whatever and it turns out all along somebody was manipulating it (as per my very weak grasp of it)

Just seems to be another space now for con men and Apprentice rejects to fill.

Remember NFTs from a few years ago, footballers and celebrities were all over them as both supposed sound investments and ways to flaunt their wealth.

I's always thought CrookesBlade to be one of our more sensible posters, but I can see he is now pushing his ITK credentials.

FFS, we were never in for Keith Bacon and I have it on very good authority that Terry Ham is going to Villa.

Shame really as Terry Ham was great at carving out chances, Bacon was a particularly crisp(y) finisher as well

The real news is Tony Prosciutto, he should be joining us from Palma in January.

It’s not the same situation, it’s clear that we are being paid for the shirt sponsorship. Shirt sponsorship is about increasing brand awareness, we are certainly not providing financial advice or suggesting that Maneki is a sound investment.
