In hindsight this is true. However, at the time, I did think it was time for a change. Not sure if i'd have him back.

Letting Warnock leave BDTBL.

Is this the same Warnock who's negativity in the away games during the premiership season left us in reletion trouble?

The same Warnock who failed to get back up for Hulse....and the only possible back up for him he spent over £1million on and wouldn't play him....instead he packed him off the Leeds on loan.

The same Warnock who wasted £3million on Shelton and Fathi in that transfer window as they were players for the future.

The same Warnock whose team selection on the last day of that season left many fans bemused before the game .(Jags right back,Monty in midfield with damaged shoulder,Davis on bench,Quinn in from the cold on the left)

We would have gone straight back up has Mr McCabe decided not to sack him

i would love him back watching palace play today and seeing warnock interviewed before the game you could see the passion and the fight that we have lacked.

but it will never happen and we have to see what blackwell does now he has got the right mix and had us playing well against Bristol.

plus looks like warnock is gonna QPR for a million as palace need the money.

No I think it's the Warnock who got the gates up from about 9k to 26k and brought some fantastic times to the lane including only the 2nd promotion to the top flight in about 30 years

the same warnock that took us from avg 14k to 25k+ attendances
the same warnock that gave us great memories against leeds wednesday liverpool and forest.
the same warnock that took us to semi finals and play off finals

yes he made mistakes but he gave the club heart and passion and with a warnock team you all ways had a chance you all ways believed.

so many memories :thumbup::D:thumbup:

thank you warnock

Listening to him and watching him today I got the hairs on the back of the neck up. The same happens every time I watch the Warnock Documentary. The man is a legend.

Something wasn't quite there at the end of that Prem season. It was time to go and the board weren't prepared to back him with the funds that would have kept us up.

But to be honest, we saw a different Warnock in the PL, in many ways he was a rabbit in the headlights.

We saw him back at his best post match today.

i`d have to say id take warnock back no probs, good for the banter.. and his FA cup runs just shows u how he get the best outta his players, agaist the odds. most of my best times watching the blades unber warnock. thanks neil

I would carry him on my shoulders all the way back to Sheffield.

Obviously not to be taken literally, especially with my sciatica, but you get the sentiment.... ;)

i thought warnock left as mutual agreement. also thought he said he was leaving BDTBL as he thought he was a premier league manager.

still a manager that got the most out of players such as tounge and brown,

i wouldnt mind him back at the lane

and in the biggest game of that season, made incorrect team selections that cost us the game(by hos own admission)

Many fans appear to forget the one dimensional style of play for the majority of the time he was with us.

Don't get me wrong,he did a good job for us and he is what we needed at the time but he was he better than Bassett?

Both have gone and I wouldn't take either back

yep the same un .....................

can yer imagine cheap as chips an the Premiership ?....... we'd only need one good signing ! a decent joiner

Disagree on this. It rarely works out that way.

Biggest bollock was the man brought in to replace Neil.

This is another way of looking at it, if Robson had been a success, then getting rid of Warnock would have been seen as a masterstroke!

And if my aunty had a...

Wait. Wat?

He wasn't. So it wasn't.

Strange little post that Soters.

Most of the home games in the Prem were absolutely awesome, Warnock always got the team fired up, the passion was there and the fans responded. Away from home that season he dropped major bollocks - we had won 3 away games before christmas but hardly took a point after that. He was a legend and, in hindsight, he could probably have got us straight back up. However at the time most people (myself included) thought it was best we had a change. As others have said, the real bollock dropped was the numpty who replaced him.

Warnock is God in my eyes ... well there's two gods and Geary is the other :) , he was responsible for the last 8 years and McCabe just tagged along and took the credit !

Yeah I would like a footballing manager but watching todays Palace game took me back to the 02/03 season and as we fade back to underdog status he is the man for the job ... sadly he would never work for the builder again so it not going to happen :(

Yes. The same Warnock who wasn't exactly welcomed with open arms by any of us, myself included. The same Warnock who was told by Kevin Titterton on Radio Five in a breakfast interview when taking over from Heath, "It's all good and well saying you're a Blade, but you've got to prove yourself!"

The same Warnock who rescued us from potential oblivion, and in three years got us to two semi-finals and the play-off final.

The same Warnock who kept us up there with ferk all o spend, but had a squad of players willing to fight for the cause, and who could play a bit (when allowed!), and still gave us some belief.

The same Warnock who actually got us promoted. Do you remember that? Promotion? We went up! The same Warnock who despite mistakes, got relegated by a single goal?

One goal.

Remember when we got promoted when Burnley beat Hull so that we went up on goals scored? Such are the margins in football.

The same Warnock who took a demoralised side on (a fortunate win v Portsmouth and then a home draw with the still non-league Rushden and Diamonds in the Cup), to title contenders, and one goal away from survival at the very end.

You look at a few matches. I'll look at the best part of a decade of trying to steadily build. One goal. That's what it boils down to. Yes, he made mistakes, but we had some luck too. Webber away at Watford? How far offside? Hanging on against Arsenal?

Get a grip.

So one match makes a reputation, when within a near ten year association with the club. And actually, there were many times we played some decent stuff. Oddly enogh, it wan't as good as Manure, Chelsea or the Thieves, but we did often pass the ball.

Thank you for your completely balanced reasoning.

As for the Bassett question, it's tough. The late 80's were different footballing times. Less money, fewer opportunities. I'd have to say they were the same.

Bassett had absolutely nothing, but (despite the initial relegation) rescued a side who never thought we'd see the top flight again, and gave us four years there. Warnock took a side who were in terms of league positions had been there-ish, and finally got us there.

Money had become a big problem by Warnock's time, and much more than in Bassett's time. That might sound strange, but there is a reason in my madness.

When Bassett was there, £1m actually meant something. Now it's just a bag of chips. That said, the last twice we were relegated, the TV money increased substantially the year after.

'Bout right.

Point of order.
When you're buying players with raffle tickets and the manager is helping out with cash for players, it's fair to say money was a much bigger problem in Bassett's time. That's before we start on the revolving boardroom door.

i was thinking the same until his 'usual' match rant at the officials after the game. .i do wish he'd stop doing that, i always found it embarassing, even if he was 'right' (he usually is).. it makes him look like a prat.. the scenes at selhurst did remind me of the 'soul' he put into our club and that contrasted with recent atmosphere at bdtbl

No No No No it wasnt beighton.

His time was up with us.

Couldn't this be said of Blackwell currently? Hasn't Blackwell had to cope with a drastic reduction in the wage bill ?

I'm not sure Warnock's wage bill was decreased and the majority of the seasons the football were turgid .Are you saying that with the players he had that we were relegation candidates. There would have been no sympathy for him if he took us down.Remember the reaction of the fans that game at home against Millwall?

The big opportunity was the premier season and he messed it up. We shouldn't have been in a position where we went down by one goal yet his team selctions put us in danger.

The scenario you describe also describes the position Blackwell was in (and is currently in)when he took over yet many fans want to jump on his back straight away.

As i mentioned earlier,Warnock was the right man at the right time...the same can be said of Blackwell. I appreciate what NW did(and what KB is doing) but he certainly wasn't the god like figure that some on here would have you believe.

I'm not sure Warnock's wage bill was decreased and the majority of the seasons the football were turgid .

Compare Warnocks wage budget with the one currently available to Blackwell, I think you will find a major difference.

Warnocks budget when he left would have been higher than what is is now (for obvious reasons)

What Warnock's budget was the season before or in previous seasons I have no idea but players like Jags,Tonge,Shipperley,Webber,Kenny,Short etc would have been on similar money(if not more) than many of the squad now wouldn't they ?

We never had the revenue streams then what we have now.
We were making money then and we are losing money now.

So I'd imagine that is quite a big divide between the 2 examples.
