The biggest omission for me in the whole squad is Evans, and yes just for that one season. He'd have been in my 11 instead of Kabba without question.

Thanks for this Darren.
Really good set of threads over the last month or so.

Some players I had sorta forgot about and some I wish I'd never heard about etc.
And Alan Kelly is the best keeper.

However the worst thing about looking at those talented players on there is comparing them to todays squad...

That's an interesting stat. A lot of people will choose to ignore it mind. As well as a reminder of Warnock's ability it shows that we're right to focus on the academy.

Warnock had a longer tenure, so it's no surprise he brought in/nurtured the hightest number of players included in Darrens list. Although it should also be noted that Warnocks budget was miserly up until the promotion season. If I remember right, Warnock gave an ultimatum to the board at the end of the 2004/2005 season; back me with a transfer budget or I am gone. In the summer before the 2005/2006 season we spent much more then usual (500k Paul Ifill, wages for Craig Short, Neil Shipperley and Keith Gillespie).

Picks itself.

Same team for me as well. And I agree on Evans.

Were one being pragmatic, one would have Evans in at 9, BT at 6 and Jags in whatever high number he wore in his early days...

Ah but dont forget he's actually a rubbish manager, dinosaur, money waster, etc etc...

And was manager for almost half the spell we are talking about so its not really balanced but I don't expect you to pick that up.

Half the spell but he signed 21 of the "Best of" squad compared with only 8 players signed by other managers.
I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that's more evidence that he did a good job for us.

Where did I say he didn't but there are lies damn lies and stats.

Doesnt it confirm that the managers after Warnock were effing useless

Would the stats from the Worst squad also see Col as the person who signed most of the shite as well?

All a load of tosh to be honest, people like Onoura and Ullathorne are in purely due to the numbers they carried (and the shite that also carried it) rather than as actual "best 40" players.
