Touching on what Deadly D'Jaffo said in the Baxter thread really. We are renowned for this, we have seen it with so many players who have impressed elsewhere only to come to Bramall Lane and extremely underwhelm us. Of course a good few of them have been fortunate enough to move on from us and
re-ignite careers again but still.

This season we Poached as the title says possibly "the best of the rest" when it comes to League Ones stand out players, I mean ok we would have all liked a bite of the cherry with Luke Freeman, Leon Clarke and Callum Wilson because those three are again stand outs, quality players and luxuries at this level. But we signed Fabian Brandy, Jose Baxter and Flo Cuvelier who in their own rights prior to coming to The Lane stood out at their previous clubs for the right reasons.

When signing them it was rightly greeted by understandable optimism from our fans but nothing has happened! Why?

Who do we blame for these players achieving sweet FA as of yet?

Do we blame the manager?.......Two managers now have had a ruling over them sooo........

Do we blame the players?...........Do we give players to much respect and breed content?.......

Do we blame the rest of the squad?.,.....For not being good enough and on par with the new talent?.....

Who should we start questioning in relation to the performances or lack of performances of these players?

The problem we've got at the moment is a vicious cycle of:

The squad is shit, there is some negative influences, a new manager comes in and gives the 'clean slate' statement, the negative influences are given a chance, they fail the manager, the manager gets sacked.

The solution is simple: a brave Manager who will identify the problems quickly and pro-actively do something about it. If I was Clough, I'd stop pampering the egos of the players & not be afraid of upsetting them. He should also set an example that will send shockwaves across the club and assert authority. Stripping Doyle of captaincy , dropping him & transfer listing all mentioned in my other thread would be my choice.

I agree but who do you make captain ? A team should have 11 ,unfortunately the squad we have doenst have one.We need a strong physical and mental presence in the middle of the pitch ,someone player look up to and fear ,we haven't had that for years ,we are so light weight and this needs to change.

How do know there are negative influences? From what I can gather the only negative influence was Weir who didn't prepare them fitness wise for the season.

Which 'egos' does Clough,(or Wilson,Morgan or Weir) pamper ? What makes you think any of them are afraid of upsetting the,. Indeed, why would you want to upset them ?
Doyle- 4 managers have now believed he should be the captain of this squad. Is he good enough as a player? probably not but he has been the best of a shit midfield this seaon. Stripped of captaincy? Only the players and manager will tell you if he is a good captain on and off the pitch and they are in a better position than us to judge.

You pick on Doyle- why not Maguire whose performances for the majority of the season have been poor ?

I thought Doyle's efforts weren't that noticeably awful (by his own recent standards).

Much I don't like him, he's been overtaken by others in the race to the bottom.
