The elephant in the room at the moment is BBD's performances. He's had more poor than good since returning. Including one of the worst I've ever seen at home to Pompey.

I think it's clear the right midfielder slot doesn't suit him at all. He's not got the touch or any trickery to play there. But he does get back and help Seriki... and he's scored a couple.

But it's plain to see he's either a forward or left winger. Obviously he can't play there at the moment.

Unless there's something in his contract I'd be giving him a stint on the bench. JRS or O'Hare deserve a chance to stake their claim for the run in. God knows we could've done with O'Hare's energy in that opening 45 yesterday where they were pathetically dialling it in and thinking they'd won.

He's not played well once since coming back

He looks lethargic and slow

The goal tally is underwhelming as well

I think he's much better played in the middle. He's done next to nothing since coming back and I'd argue his defensive output has been poor as well. Genuinely, I have no idea why he keeps starting game after game when O'Hare, JRS or Brooks are so so easily banished to the bench.

Agree with the sentiments. I actually think his numbers are OK in terms of goal contributions. But he’s not looked great. I think he’s been getting picked for his general work rate. He’s clearly better off the left. You can see his tendency to cut inside still from the right but he then hesitates as it’s on his weaker foot. Having Seriki overlapping has meant it hasn’t been too much of an issue as they’ve worked well together. But on his own he’s not offering much at all. Time for JRS or Brooks on Tuesday.

I think BBD deserves more credit than the sentiment in this thread, he’s done a decent job playing out of position and scored a couple of vital goals.
My biggest gripe is him playing RW. In Jan I was buzzing at his return as the main position we needed to strengthen was LW. I thought “brilliant” now we have a LW and can get Hamer more central. But that hasn’t been the tactic and I don’t understand why.
Against Oxford yesterday we literally had no one on the LW as Hamer was central and almost 2x RW’s in Brewster and BBD!! Was totally disjointed. It totally affected Burrows as well to boot! If those are the players we’re going with at least line up as such… BBD LW, Hamer, Brewster RW

We have too many players now so it's causing a headache.

BBD should be left. But Hamer has been better on the left than Centre.
So we put him on the right and he's not as effective.

Then we have to add in Brewster who's now above Brooks & RakSakyi in the pecking order.

When we have 2 of Brewster and A.N other winger on, it puts Hamer central and means O'Hare drops out.

O'Hare on the bench is mental. Him, Cooper and Hamer should start every game.

He should play on the left, down the middle or not at all.

Against some less than amazing teams we should let JRS off the leash.

He’s the sort that will dip his bread in against inferior opposition.

I still can’t account for how bad his touch is. That’s twice in two games he’s miscontrolled passed to him so badly.

I prefer him on the left or as part of a strike partnership, but he's played on the right wing plenty of times in his career. That's not really an excuse.

He didn't for Blackburn where it was undoubtedly the best spell of his career?

Do we actually have the players to play
4-2-3-1? At times does Wilder struggle to accommodate certain players? Does he know players best positions? Admittedly it has got us to the position we are in but considering our poor goal difference and scoring compared to Leeds and Burnley is our preferred formation in danger of derailing any chance of promotion?

Really feels like JRS and his abilities in one on one situations would've made a big difference yesterday. Wilder doesn't seem to fully trust him though and he's obviously a big fan of BBD even though right now he offers little in attack.

He's best used in counter attacks and in a lot of games we have sides playing deeper with men back

New song to gee him up, with reference to the patented Wilder Method of picking up underachievers:

Let's all get pissed with Ben Brereton-Diaz
Isn't it strange that he is Chilean....
(Disco 2000)

The side is going to be freshened up for Millwall.
BBD seems one of the more bvious one to rest with JRS waiting in the wings.
Would think O'Hare will come back in for Brewster and I'd be tempted to put Holding in (doubt Wilder shares that temptation though).

I think I’ve been quite vociferous in my backing of Callum O’Hare but I really do think he’s been very hard done to to have lost his spot.

Throw all your figures at me for ‘no end product’ or whatever (he’s actually got either the most or second most assist for us this season) but I really don’t care - we play better with him in the side, simple as that, we need him for his energy and the press simply doesn’t work effectively without him.

GERRIM back in!

could we not try 4-4-2

Rak-Sakyi Souza Peck Hamer
Campbell Diaz

I think Diaz offers more playing further up the pitch.

We could but we won’t, Wilder’s retort to this suggestion would be along the lines of “we’ve not got in the top 2 after 40 games by me just changing the formation every week”. He’d probably also call you a ‘punter’.

On the left with Hamer in the middle or coming off the bench to replace Campbell seem to the way for us to use him. Seems ineffective on the right and we have JRS and Brooks as options to start instead.

O'hare for me not only has a great understanding with Hamer but also keeps opposition players guessing with his unpredictable style and creates "end product"for others with space to take advantage.
Is it reasonable to expect more goals from him when his energetic style creates for the team as a whole🤔.
He provides energy and urgency where others don't and is surely a shoe in,particularly against defences who sit in,for me anyway.
We look less incisive and a tad ponderous without him, one of our more exciting players.I like instinctive football and I think the likes of him and Seriki offer that.
I've said before that relationships matter hugely so why it's been underdeveloped mystifies me.
Of course I'm selfish and seek entertainment, and no tactical genius, but along with having strength in specific positions then undermining it with square pegs, round holes, brings frustration and dull football.
Such ideologies prevent "end product" for more than just O'hare.
I sometimes wonder if talent gets wasted at Bramall Lane where over the years exciting potential is and has been muted by discouraging freedom of movement and over complicating a simple game.

I'm with you Gimli,gerrim back in.👍

The bizarre thing is BBD has been brought in twice by Wilder so he must see something in him. Not sure is it out of positioning that isn't working or is he FUBAR'd from the lack of 1st team football and then being chucked into every game, who knows.

What has happened to BBD? Where has the player who torn this division a new one with Blackburn? Or had a great spell in our terrible team last season?

I find it bizarre that we bring in players with pedigree who are simply not performing. There's a list of them and yet we're third.

It's almost as if we've got a manager that can't get the best out of players where others can.....
